《Hiraeth || F. Meizuo》Chapter 5

I was packing my stuff for Hawaii when suddenly my phone rang. I picked it up and saw the caller ID: "ZuoZuo".
"Hello Zuo? I'm in the middle of packing at the moment so-" I said as I folded one of my shirts neatly and placing them in my suitcase.
"We're not going to Hawaii anymore." I stopped packing and pressed the phone closer to my ear.
"What? What do you mean?" I asked sadly.
"Ah Si said we're going to Sanya. Don't worry, there's still a beach." He answered when he noticed my sad tone.
"Oh okay thanks for letting me know Zuo! I gotta go.. I have to finish packing." I said with a smile through the phone.
"Sure no problem. Lei and I will pick you and Jing up tomorrow by 10 am. Sweet dreams Shuijing!" He said and I swear I could hear him laughing a little through the phone.
"Sure. Sweet dreams Zuo!" I said as I hanged up. I picked up the last of my shirts, some flip flops and closed my suitcase. I yawned and charged my phone. I went to my bathroom to brush my teeth and wash my face. After that, I brushed my hair and went to bed.
I woke up at around 8 am the next morning to get ready and do a last-minute check. I took a shower, dried my hair, and picked out my clothes. I picked out a red long-sleeved jumpsuit and some buckled platform black sandals. I threw on my gold and pearl long earrings and fastened the silver bracelet with miniature tourmalines and a large opal stone that Meizuo had gotten me for my 18th birthday. I was spraying on some perfume when I heard someone knock on my door.
"It's open!" I called out as I brushed my hair and applied some tint to my lips. The door opened to reveal my older sister clad in a white sleeveless boxy crop top and a matching flowy white skirt. She had on some gold dangling earrings and her hair was pulled back into a curled ponytail. She also had on some gold strappy heels. Her suitcase was placed outside my door.
"Lei and Meizuo are here. Are you done?" she kindly asked with a smile. I nodded and smiled back as I moved to get my suitcase when the door to my room opened wider. There were Lei and Meizuo. I smiled.
"Good morning you two." I said as I waved at them. Lei gave me a small smile and a hug while Meizuo did the same but kept his arm around my waist.
"Let's go?" he asked us and we all nodded. Lei offered his arm to Jie and grabbed her suitcase for her while she looped her arm in his. Meizuo did the same while I grabbed my phone and my black box clutch from my bed. We headed downstairs to Meizuo's car and the boys placed Jie and my luggage in the trunk. Jie got in the back with Lei while I got in the passenger seat next to Meizuo. We drove off to meet Ximen and Ah Si at the port. Ximen was there with his date while Ah Si was talking to the captain of the yacht.
I gave them both a hug and introduced myself to Ximen's date. Our luggage was loaded first and after they were loaded, we all got up to board the yacht. Ah Si went up first, followed by Ximen and his date then Lei and Jiejie and lastly me and Meizuo. I almost slipped when getting up when Meizuo caught my arm.

"Careful Shui." he said softly. I smiled and I felt my cheeks burning so I quickly muttered a 'Thanks' and walked up to the bow of the ship. I smelled the air and smiled. I love being at sea, it's always made me feel calm. I then walked over to where Meizuo was sitting and plopped myself down beside him. He placed his arm around the back of the seat I was sitting on and looked towards the sea.
After an hour, we were getting closer to the port in Sanya and I swear I could hear someone calling Ah Si's name. I looked around and saw someone waving at us from a small boat near the docks. I squinted my eyes and looked closer to see who it was. It was Qinghe and Shancai. I nudged Meizuo and gestured to the boat. He shook his head and laughed in Ah Si's direction. I smirked and went up to Ah Si who was gripping onto the yacht's railing on the bow of the ship.
"So this is why you wanted to come to Sanya? Are you stalking her Ah Si?" I playfully asked. Ah Si glared at me.
"Hey. If she can go wherever she wants, we can too." he said dismissively. I laughed and walked back to Meizuo who had stood up.
The boat came to a stop and slowly went down one by one. Ah Si went down first to meet Shancai and Qinghe. Ximen and his date were beside Meizuo and I, who had his arm around my waist to keep me from falling as the boat rocked back and forth. Lei and Jie were behind us.
"Daoming Si, why are you here?" Qinghe asked as they all stopped. Shancai stared at Ah Si and stepped closer.
"Why are you here?" She repeated in an annoyed tone.
"I can go wherever I want on this planet. Do I need to have a reason why?" Ah Si smugly answered back. He then turned to look at the boat Shancai and Qinghe were riding in earlier.
"Is that your family's boat? Can it go out to sea? I think you can only go around the pond." Ah Si mockingly teased.
"Who said so? I went fishing on it one time." Qinghe defended.
"So it's a fishing boat?" Ah Si asked in laughter. Qinghe got tongue-tied while Ah Si walked away, still laughing. Ximen and his date followed after and Meizuo and I got down with him holding my hand but we waited for Lei and Jie. I went up to Qinghe and Shancai with Meizuo in tow.
"Hi Qinghe! Hi Shancai!" I greeted with a smile and Shancai gave me a smile back while Qinghe excitedly waved at me which made Meizuo's hold on my hand tighter. I turned my head to see that Jie and Lei had also disembarked from the yacht.
"Shancai, we meet again." Jie said as she smiled at the younger girl who was in awe.
"Jing. You're here too?" She asked as Jie nodded at her.
"I was just saying that these boys are making me bored. Then, you appeared." Jie added as she smiled.
"True. They're no fun." I said as I playfully bumped Meizuo with my hip and he glared at me annoyance.
"Hey! I'm plenty of fun!" He answered back with a pout. I laughed and turned back to Shancai and Qinghe.
"We're having a party tonight. You should come." Jie invited as she stared at the two freshmen and I nodded in agreement.

"I wouldn't want to cause trouble. I'd ruin the atmosphere." Shancai said as she tried to reject Jie's offer. Jie shook her head.
"That's not true. The more, the merrier. Right, Lei?" She stated as she turned to look at Lei who smiled softly at her.
"Yes, you should come." He added to appease Jie.
"Can I come too?" Qinghe asked excitedly. I placed my hand on his shoulder.
"Of course you can! Any friend of Shancai's is welcome!" I said cheerfully as he seemed to blush at my words or the fact that I touched his shoulder. He turned to Shancai who still seemed a bit unsure.
"Don't worry. Shuijing and I will be there. So don't worry about Ah Si." Jie reassured her and I nodded at her.
"Come on. I'll do your makeup. And Shuijing will help you with your clothes and shoes." Jie tempted as she moved forward to grab Shancai's hand. I followed suit and so did Meizuo and Lei. I waved back at Qinghe as he did the same. Meizuo pulled me closer by the waist.
"I don't like the way he keeps staring at you." he whispers in my ear. I blush and push him away which makes Lei laugh. I walked a little further away from both of them and closer to Jie and Shancai.
----------------------------------
"Meizuo, stop making princess blush. Plus, you can't blame Qinghe. Shuijing has really grown up beautifully." Lei told Meizuo when Shuijing was far enough. Meizuo sighed at the fact that Lei was right.
"I know Lei. But she's my best friend. I don't want other guys to think bad about her and besides, we don't know Qinghe all that well. I just wanna protect her." Meizuo answered back as they continued to walk to the villa. Lei mysteriously smiled at him.
"Are you sure what you're doing is what a best friend should be doing? Or is it something a boyfriend should be doing?" He teased as Meizuo blushed at the statement.
"A-as her best friend of course! What are you talking about?" he stuttered as Lei laughed.
"I'm just saying.. but Meizuo?" Lei asked as his laughter died down and Meizuo turned to look at him.
"Yeah?"
"You do know you can't protect her forever you know? She'll get hurt eventually and you won't see it coming. "Lei said truthfully. Meizuo's eyebrows furrowed in annoyance. Why was Lei telling him this?
"I'll stay be her side forever." He retorted. Lei shook his head.
"You do know she'll fall in love someday right? And when she does, she'll want to be with that person for the rest of your life. He'll be the one she wants by her side.. not you, Meizuo. " Lei told him as he walked away.
Meizuo didn't even want to think about Shuijing falling in love. He had just gotten her back and there was no way he was gonna let another guy steal his Shuijing.
------------------------
It was the eve of the party and we were in Jie's room helping Shancai get ready. Jie and I were already dressed. At the moment, Jie was doing Shancai's makeup. Jie was wearing a short white dress that covered her shoulders with a scalloped edged neckline and some flat white shoes. She had on a silver necklace with a small black square with matching dangling long square earrings while I was dressed in a short white dress with a pearl halter. The back of the skirt had a detachable train which I removed for now. I changed into some white wedges that weren't too tall since we had to walk around in the sand and changed my earrings into small diamond studs. I kept my hair down and curled the ends.
I was looking for a dress for Shancai and smiled when I found the perfect one. It was a short white collared button-up halter dress that was flowy and cute. I showed it to Shancai and she nodded. I set it out on the bed and went to my jewelry box. I took out some heart-shaped diamond studs and held them out to Shancai.
"Shuijing.. that's too much. You're already letting me borrow a dress." She protested and I just laughed.
"Exactly so you might as well complete the look. Please, Shancai? These will look good on you." I pleaded with puppy dog eyes. She sighed and nodded. I cheered and proceeded to fasten them in her ears.
"Jie, I'll curl her hair." I said to my sister who was picking up some blush for Shancai. She smiled and nodded. She turned to look at me.
"Well, don't you look stunning meimei. Someone's jaw is gonna drop when they see you." She teased as she applied the blush to Shancai's cheeks while I waited for the curling iron to heat up.
"Who? I don't exactly have a boyfriend, Jiejie." I answered back with a pout which made Shancai look at me in confusion.
"Huh? Then what about Meizuo?" She asked with a curious look in her eye. I blushed and Jie giggled at me.
"O-ooh! He's not my boyfriend Shancai. He's my best friend." I answered her but she didn't seem convinced.
"But the way you act around each other.." she said. I smiled.
"That's just how we are. Zuo and I are just really comfortable with each other." I said as I started to curl her hair slightly just to give her hair some waves. She nodded.
"You look good together, Shuijing." She stated as she sat still. I smiled and nodded.
"Sure." I answered to avoid the topic. She then turned to Jie and then back at me.
"You both look so pretty." She said which Jie and I shared a knowing look and smiled at the younger girl.
"Well aren't you sweet? Jie can't we adopt her?" I asked my sister who laughed at me.
"You're pretty too." she answered Shancai.
"Has Daoming Si made up with Huaze Lei?" Shancai asked in curiosity. Jie shook her head but smiled.
"I don't think so." She answered as she proceeded to get some lipstick from her vanity mirror.
"Ah Si is kind of immature. He hasn't been talking to Lei. Ximen and Jie persuaded Lei to come along. Don't worry. Ah Si has always been very impulsive. His temper comes and goes quickly. He'll get over it soon." I explained to her.
"As for Lei, I don't think anything in this world could make him mad." Jie added as she proceeded to take something out from her drawer. "Oh, this is a gift for you." she said as she gave it to Shancai which the younger girl thanked her for. I handed Jie a golden envelope with a thin gold ribbon which she gave to Shancai.
"My birthday is next week. I invited some friends. You should come." Jie invited her.
"Your birthday? It must be a huge event." Shancai said as she stared at the envelope in amazement.
"Don't worry, I won't invite those girls at school." Jie reassured her.
"Can I bring my friends?" Shancai asked with a smile.
"Of course. As long as they're your friends, you can bring them all." Jie told her with a smile. Shancai thanked her again and smiled back.
"Okay, let's get you changed." I said as I pointed to the dress on the bed.
After helping Shancai get changed, we proceeded to the party. The three of us could hear the loud booming of the music from Jie's room. When we got closer, I noticed a whole lot of people were there. Even more, than we invited. I guessed Zuo and Ximen invited them. The boys (mainly Ximen and Meizuo) were having fun getting all of the girls' attention. At least two clung to both their arms which I scoffed at. Typical. I was wearing a cover-up since it was a little cold but these girls were wearing clothes so tight and skimpy, it was like they forgot how cold it was or how to breathe.
We walked closer and Ah Si and Lei's head turned to look at Shancai who still looked awkward standing there. I patted her back and gave her a smile. She turned to look at me and smiled back. She looked so pretty and cute. I wanna adopt this girl.
"Shancai. You look so cute like this." I turned to see it was Ximen and Meizuo. They had walked closer and the girls behind them looked so disappointed. Sorry girls, these boys are ours. Kidding!
"Girls really need to dress up. Jing and Shuijing have impeccable taste. Even Shancai looks amazing with their help. Right, Si?" Meizuo added as he turned to look at Ah Si whose jaw had dropped slightly. I smirked. And when he didn't answer, Zuo called his attention again.
"You're exaggerating. She looks fine." He dismissively said and looked away but I could see a faint blush on his cheeks. I laughed. Lei continued to stare at her and Shancai's cheeks brightened ever so slightly. Qinghe approached us.
"Shancai, you look really pretty today. Hi Shuijing! Hi Jing!" He said happily as he waved at me and Jing and complimented Shancai. Shancai and Jing smiled at him while I waved back and smiled. Qinghe stepped closer to me and shyly smiled.
"Shuijing.. you look very pretty." he said which earned him a glare from Meizuo. I laughed and thanked him. And at that moment, my cover-up flew away to reveal my bareback. I tried to catch it but Qinghe caught it. I thanked him and I could see from the corner of my eye that Meizuo had crossed his arms while looking at us.
"Oh well. That was bound to happen anyway." I said but I looked up at Qinghe who was bright red.
Jie approached me.
"Wear it like that Meimei. It looks much better and besides.. someone secretly likes it." She teased as she took a quick glance at Zuo who was blushing slightly. She then went to sit with Lei. I smiled and just held on to my cover-up. Qinghe suddenly complained of a stomachache and quickly ran to the bathroom. As soon as he left, Zuo approached me. I smiled and asked what was wrong. He pouted and gestured to my dress.
"What's wrong with it? Don't I look cute?" I asked jokingly. He blushed and coughed.
"Don't you think it's a little revealing?" He asked me with his eyebrows raised. I scoffed.
"I think those girls who were stuck to your arm had more revealing clothes than me." I said as I walked away but Zuo caught my arm. He smiled.
"Are you jealous?" He teased and I pulled my arm back. I glared at him and his eyes saddened.
"Me? Jealous? No way." I said as I continued to walk away but he pulled me back again. He looked at me with pleading eyes.
"Please don't be mad at me." he said as he pulled me closer and tucked a strand of my hair behind my ear.
"You look beautiful. Besides, no one can beat my best friend." he said proudly and I felt my heart break again, 'Oh yeah.. how could I forget? I was just the best friend. No matter how sweet he was to me, it's only because I'm his best friend.' I thought with a frown. I shook it off and fake smiled at him.
"Of course! Do you expect less from me? Come on, let's party!" I said I grabbed his arm and dragged him towards the dance floor.
Soon, the DJ announced that he would be turning off the lights so that everyone could kiss whoever they wanted to kiss. The girls squealed and chaos ensued. Ximen went off to find a girl, Ah Si was just staring at Shancai which left me and Meizuo. He looked at me and smiled.
"Is it okay? Just on the cheek?" he asked sheepishly. I giggled and nodded. A kiss on the cheek was harmless, right?
He walked closer to me while I stood there frozen. The lights then suddenly went off and I closed my eyes. After a few seconds, the lights went back on and my eyes adjusted to the view. I could thoroughly hear my heartbeat in my ears and my stomach dropped.
'I wish I was blind' I thought.
Meizuo was holding a girl in his arms, herpassionately. His eyes were closed and looked like he was really into it. After a few seconds, he pulled away with a smile. His eyes widened in shock like he wasn't expecting to be kissing her. He looked up again and saw me.
"Shuijing?" he asked in shock. I shook my head and just smiled at him.
I couldn't take it anymore. I had to get out of there.
So... I ran.
