《The Fifth Horseman - Now You See Me (Daniel Atlas Fanfiction)》Chapter 7: The Street Performance

Daniel's POV
A couple of days since Morgan arrived have passed, and it has been pretty cool to get to hang out with her. She's usually with Henley than anyone else besides Dylan. I would have never thought that Dylan was a godfather; he seems really close with Morgan. I gotten into the guest room a couple of times to see her practice. I guess she's going to go out and perform sometime soon. We only caught the tail in of her show at school. I think I'll have to follow her when she goes; besides, she needs supervision even though she is legally an adult. Just to make sure she'll be ok.
I walked past her room to see Morgan in front of a mirror in skinny jeans, a red shirt, a black leather jacket and heels that looked like converse shoes . She had curled her hair, it framing her face perfectly. Apparently she saw me in the mirror, she looked a little nervous. "Um, hi Mr. Atlas." She said. She's been calling me Mr. Atlas as if I'm some superior. "Please, Morgan. Call me Daniel or Danny like everyone else does. If we're going to be in working together, we have to be on a first name basis." I said, leaning on the door frame. "So, where you going?" I asked. "Um, nowhere." She said, grabbing her phone, some money, and her deck of cards. "Let me guess, you're going to do a solo act real quick." I said. A look of nervousness came to her face. "I think I need to put myself out there before I do something with you guys." She said. She doesn't think she's good enough? "If this is about not being good enough, then don't worry about it. You are really good for a girl." I said. "Well, I still want to do it. I think someone that I met the day I came will be there. I want to impress her." Morgan said. "Now, if you'll excuse me." She said, slipping out the door. I heard her walk through the apartment, open and then close the door. I then left her room and grabbed my coat. "Where you going?" Henley asked as I grabbed the handle. "I'm following Morgan. She's going to perform tonight and I want to see a full performance." I said. "Ok, watch out for her. Don't go pick up a girl, please." She said. "Fine." I said, leaving the apartment.
"For my next trick, I need a volunteer." Morgan said. I watched her performance from my seat at an outdoor café. Every trick was exhibited as flawlessly as the last. Morgan is really good. She all kinds of magic: card tricks, making things disappear, even mentalism. She does everything with such skill. I'm not sure why she thinks she's not good. I watched as Morgan's eyes swept the crowd; her eyes landed on a familiar brunette. It was Teresa Monk, ring leader of The Five of Heart. Was she the one Morgan wanted to impress? "Ms. Teresa Monk, please tell me you're not here to take back your crowd." Morgan said. What? Did Morgan crash on of Teresa's performances? "Well, I didn't think you would debunk my trick in front of everyone. I only came to return the favor, and hopefully have you take up my offer." Teresa said. Offer? Did she offer Morgan a spot in The Five of Hearts? I hope not. "Like I said before, I'm not that type of person. I'm more of a Robin Hood. I'd rather see others getting the good things they deserve than getting rich by ways of thieft. Now, would you like to be a part of another one of my tricks?" Morgan said. "Only to debunk it." Teresa said. "Well, with this trick, I'm going to tell you a little bit about myself." Morgan explained.

"I'm a very big music fan. I sing it, listen to it, and dance to it. My brain is more musical lyrics than arithmetic filled. I can tell you the lyrics to more than 80% of the music on the radio. So, pick a song, Teresa." Morgan said. "Tik Toc by Ke$ha." Teresa said. "Ok, that happens to be my cards favorite song as well. So, I want you to look at my deck. Shuffle it, look through it, do whatever you want to do with it." Morgan said, handing her deck to Teresa. She shuffled it, adding some card jumps. She thumbed through the deck. "Are all 52 cards in the deck?" Morgan asked. "Yes." Teresa said. "Now, I'm going to make the lyrics of Tik Toc appear on the deck." Morgan said. Wow, never heard of that one. She shuffled the deck a couple of times and tapped the top card. "Now, how does the song go?" Morgan said, fake thinking. "Wake up in the morning feeling like Pee Diddy. Get my glasses, I'm out the door. I'm gonna hit this city. Before I leave, brush my teeth with a bottle of Jack, cause when I leave for the night, I aint coming back. I'm talking about pedicures on our toes, toes. Trying on all our clothes, clothes. Boys blowing up our phones, phones. Drop down, now we're playing our favorite CDs. Coming up to the parties. Trying to get a little bit tipsy. Don't stop, make it pop, baby blow my speakers up. Tonight, I'm fight 'til we sight the sunlight. Tic Tok on the clock, but the party don't stop. No." she sung. Her voice sounded amazing. "Ok. I think the cards can take it from there. So, I'm going to give them a minute to copy the lyrics. Have you debunked my trick yet, Teresa?" Morgan asked, gently shaking her cards. "No.....Not yet. But I will." She said. "Ok, you keep thinking that." Morgan said, making the crowd go 'ohhh'. Wow, Morgan just shut her down. I never thought she would be that type of girl. "I think my cards are ready. So, Teresa, will you take off that top card and read what it says, please." Morgan said. Teresa took the top card, a surprised look came to her face. "It says 'Wake up in the morning feeling like Pee Diddy.' How did you do that?" she asked. "I guess you couldn't see it." Morgan said, fanning out her cards to reveal words one them instead of numbers and suits. Wow. The crowd started to clap; Teresa looked pissed.
"For this last trick, I'm going to do a little bit of borrowing." Morgan said, pocketing her cards. Then, something didn't seem right; I felt through my pockets, I couldn't find my deck of cards. I always kept it on me. "This deck of cards belongs to an amazing magician that I look up to very greatly. I've had them for a little over 3 days now. He just doesn't know it yet." Morgan said, looking over at me, holding a different deck of cards. She winked a cute wink at me. She has my cards. "Teresa, look through the deck to see if all of them are there." Morgan said. Teresa looked through the cards; I knew all 52 were there. "Yep. All there." Teresa said, handing them back. "Cards, or any piece of magical item, are very people possessive. If you don't own the deck you are using, they won't work if they don't like you. Also, if they are away from their owner for a while, they get itchy. These cards, especially. The owner, he uses them all the time. Ever since I got here, I haven't seen him away from them more than half an hour. It's a little scary." She said. She took my deck between her hands. "Sometimes, it gets to the point that the cards just have to escape to find their owner." She said, rubbing her hands and the cards together. After a little bit, she blew on her hands. Then an explosion of card pieces came from her hands. They fell on the ground, in shreds. I got a little panic-y. "Now, there is always one card that goes ahead to find its owner." Morgan said, moving from her position. She started to walk towards me. "Hello, Daniel. May I check your jean pocket?" she asked me. "By all means." I said, standing up. Morgan stuck her hand in my back pocket, where I usually keep my cards. She pulled out the Ace of Spades, the card I pulled the first day we met. She turned around and showed the card to the crowd that moved over to us. "And if one gets to the owner successfully, the rest follow." Morgan said, shaking the card. All of a sudden, the shredded cards lifted from the ground and came rushing to us, making the crowd awe. Morgan grabbed my hand and made my hand face up. She placed the Ace in my hand; the pieces of cards found my hand and created the deck they were only a few minutes ago. I marveled at the trick. "Go ahead, shuffle them." She said. I shuffled through the deck. I counted, all the card were there. "Wow." I said, softly. "Well, everyone. That was my last trick of the night. Thank you everyone for coming. You were an amazing crowd." Morgan said. The crowd started to disperse.

"So. How did I do?" Morgan asked me. "That.... That was amazing." I said, legit speechless. Something that doesn't happen often. "What? Daniel Atlas is speechless?" I heard a nasty voice. "What did you think about my little show, Teresa?" Morgan asked her as she walked over to us. "The Horseman. Why go with them? They're just a bunch of 'too sorry' s. The only reason they escaped the FBI was that there was someone on the inside." She said. "Do you know who it is?" Morgan asked. "No...." Teresa started to say. "Then, you don't know how they escaped. They are a pretty smart group if you ask me." Morgan said. "Your name will be everywhere if you join us." Teresa said. "Yeah, where? On the most wanted list? I'd rather go through high school without going to jail, thank you." Morgan said. "Who said we'd get caught?" Teresa asked. "Who said you wouldn't? I've already given you my answer. I'm a stubborn senior in high school. If I don't want to do it, I don't. I don't steal and make other people's lives miserable to make mine great." Morgan fired back. Wow, you go Morgan. "Fine, be that way. Just know you are no longer on the neutral side. You are an enemy; just wait for something terrible to happen to you. You'll wish you joined us. Your little brother won't like you after what will happen." Teresa threaten. A stern look came to Morgan's face. "How do you now about my brother?" Morgan asked. "The one with the rare down's syndrome? Oh, honey, when I see someone I like, I research them. You have two brothers, your father died 5 years ago, and your shows go for your brother, Jackson's foundation of treatment. It would be a shame that all that work would go to waste." Teresa said. "If you dare mess with my brother or his treatment, you don't know what's coming for you." Morgan said, angry. "Try me." She said, walking away.
Just at that moment, Morgan got a phone call. "Hello? . . . . . Yeah........... No......." she said. She then heard something, her face going pale and blank. Her phone slide through her fingers. I caught it quick; Morgan's eyes were filled with tears. I put the phone up to my ear. "I don't know what happened. All the money we raised was in the account one minute and gone the next. All that is left is enough for another month of treatment. Morgan? Morgan, talk to me." The voice on the other side said. Teresa, she stole the money. It couldn't be anything else. I gently pressed her phone to her ear. "Yeah, I'm still here..... I'll think of something. I know who did it..... No, calling the police would do no good. I don't have substantial evidence..... I don't know, Josie. I really don't...... Ok, talk to you later. Love you." Morgan said; I took the phone from her ear and ended the phone call. I looked at her, she looked like she was internally broken. "Hey, do you want to head to the apartment?" I asked her. She nodded her head softly. We started to walk to the apartment; we were getting close when Morgan just stopped in her tracks. I looked at her, it probably just hit her what happen. She then burst into tears. I rushed to her, catching her before she fell. We stood there, Morgan sobbing into my jacket, hugging me tight. This must be terrible for her, so much has happened to her. After a few minutes of tears, Morgan stood upright. "Sorry." She said softly into my shoulder. "Don't be. This is all so much for you." I said, pulling her closer. "Come on, let's get you some sleep. We need to be up early tomorrow. We only have a month. Last time we had a year." I said. Morgan looked up at me with some confusion. "Do you legit think we'll let Teresa get away with this?" I asked her. "Thank you." She said. "Just letting you know, I really enjoyed that last trick." I said as we started to walk again. "Really?" she asked. "Yeah, did you really have my cards for 3 days?" I asked her. "No, I pulled them out as I left the apartment." She said. Really? How did I not feel that? Just as we walked into the apartment, the rest of the Horsemen were found in the living room, waiting for us. "So, how did it go?" Merritt asked as we entered. "Just know, we have a big vendetta against Teresa Monk." I said. "What happened?" Jack asked, confused, probably because of my big word. "Let's say, I made an enemy today that has crossed the line." Morgan said. "It's time to go to work." I said my favorite phrase.
