《To String Together ( Huaze Lei )》Moody

Her head rested against my chest as I let out a worried sigh. The thermometer reading 102.3, I knew she needed to rest. Something wasn't right when I felt her head a while ago and her coughs started sometime around four this morning. I had a feeling she may have caught a cold after walking around for a while in her wet clothes. Her body shook slightly each time she coughed and I noticed she was shaking.
If only I had brought extra clothes for her or had gone straight to buy new clothes for her she would be alright now. I purchased medication while we were out in case she caught a cold. My arms were wrapped around her, holding her close to me as I attempted to my best ability to keep her warm under the blankets.
"Faye," I spoke to her softly. "I'll be back in a moment."
"Stay here," I heard her mumble and I smiled tiredly. I could tell by her tone she was feeling unwell.
"I'm going to get you your cough medicine. Do you want anything to eat? Do you want water or juice?" She covered her mouth with her arm before looking up at me. She blinked a few times and she had a sad expression.
"I'll go with you," she said lightly. I nod and she sat up slowly. I was able to get out of the bed and I held my hand out for her to take. From the way she looked, I was concerned. She took my hand getting out of the bed and made our way to the kitchen.
Taking things slow for her we made it into the kitchen. She went over to the stool and took a seat. I walked over to the cabinet to take a glass and went for the fridge to take our orange juice for her. Pouring the juice for her, I walked over to hand the glass and reached over to take the cough medicine. I poured the medicine into the small plastic cup and handed it over.
"Thank you Lei. I'm sorry for keeping you awake."
"It's alright Faye," I smiled and reassured it's okay. "No worries. What's important is for you to get better." She nodded and took the cough liquid in one sip. I watched as her expression scrunched from the taste. I laughed lightly and she looked towards me with a pout.
"Not funny. It was gross."
"But it will help you sleep and feel better." I walked over to her and put my arms around her.
"You're going to get sick being around me."
"I don't care," I smiled sheepishly and continued to have my arms around her. I wanted to be close to her. She took a sip of her orange juice and I waited for her to finish the glass before deciding to head back into the bedroom. Going back to her room I helped her into bed.
"Thank you Lei." She smiled up at me before yawning. I nod and looked towards the table to see my favorite home showing a text message from the one person I have been waiting for.
"I have to make a call. I'll be back in a little while. Please rest Faye," I spoke giving her a knowing look that she may wait for me to come back. She nods and I took my phone off the table before making my way out of the bedroom. I went to the living room where I left my laptop. Faye and I have been doing our rehearsals and schoolwork in the living room.

Sitting in my usual spot, I went onto my computer to do a Skype call knowing he was waiting for my call. Connecting through he appeared and he sat from his end with a look of disapproval. Remaining my calm and expressionless self I stared back at him expecting this from him.
"Lei," Ah Si spoke with a hint of anger.
"Ah Si," I answered back.
"Why?"
"I like her."
"Of all the girls... you choose her?" I frowned slightly and folded my arms.
"What do you have against her? You had no right to upset her the other day." He rolled his eyes and looked away from the camera.
"Break up with her."
"You're not her brother or even father Ah Si. I'm not going to do that. How can you not be happy for me? It isn't like you like her." He looked towards me again and pointed his finger at me.
"Why can't you understand that I can't stand her? Either choose her or the guys."
"I will not break up with my girlfriend." I emphasized. "You can't kick me out of our friend group without Ximen finding out how you've been treating Faye."
"Ximen would easily believe me over her." He leaned against his chair with a smirk on his face. This was frustrating how he would think that. "I wouldn't be so sure he'd take her side over mine."
"Faye and Ximen are not separating for whatever nonsense you're trying to pull." I frowned at him in disapproval. "She's innocent, Ximen wouldn't hurt her."
"We'll see. She's only going to break your heart."
"Unlikely." Ah Si smirked. "Maybe you should hear what she had done to me our freshman year of senior high school. Or maybe the time in middle school."
...
My head leaned against the door frame of Lei's bedroom. The comforter was wrapped around me as I stared at Lei packing his things into the luggage. It was sad we had to leave, but I knew we had to head back and return to our school.
The last few days seemed... uneventful. After resting and getting better with the care of Lei, we did not go many places. Lei seemed very moody the last three days. I wasn't sure if he may be a bit tired from taking care of me when I was sick or it could have been that he had been stressed about one of his papers he had been working one.
It was noticeable of the different atmosphere between us.
The following day after I recovered, Lei spent almost the entire day rehearsing and when I tried to join, he declined me joining and wanted to practice on his own. I understood he wanted to practice on his own. I gave him space and went into my bedroom to practice on my own. It was after I noticed there was something wrong. Something felt wrong. After his rehearsal practice, I came back into the living room asking if he wanted to eat out or take a stroll down the Champs Élysée, but declined once more and went into his bedroom for the rest of the evening avoiding me. The last three nights here and he decided to sleep in his room and would study there on his own instead of the living room where I would be.
The two days following were similar. I've tried to make breakfast thinking he wasn't feeling well, but I found it difficult for me to ask him what was wrong. What if I've done something wrong? My tiny self conscious was telling me I wasn't good enough for him and it made me wonder if he was having second thoughts about us being together. He seemed more distant when we went for a walk or had the meals we ate together.

Lei is the person I'm am thankful for giving me this opportunity to be here, I tried to stay hopeful. He was the one who asked to be his girlfriend and he was the one to makes me happy and more myself being here. I couldn't overthink things. I did not want to come off as someone who was... clingy. It made me shy away from telling him how I currently felt. I couldn't not help, but feel like I was a bit of a burden after three days. What if he told me I was overthinking things?
"Lei?" I asked softly after standing at the door after a few minutes. He never welcomed me in and I did not want to intrude. He hummed as he was placing paper work into a folder. "I'm going to the cafe down the road to have a snack before we head off to the airport, do you want to join?" I watched him as he continued to focus his attention on packing. I noticed he hasn't made eye contact with me as well. I waited for his response wondering if he'd come out with me this one last time while we're here in Paris.
"No. You go ahead." The hope I was holding onto slowly disappeared and I nodded more to myself. He wasn't looking towards me. He wasn't paying much attention I noticed.
"I'll be back in about an hour." He hummed in response and I turned away making my way for the front door with my purse. I let out a sigh once I'm outside. The short walk to the cafe was beautiful. It was a beautiful fall day and I enjoyed the cool temperature. I'd miss this environment. Entering the cafe shop Lei and I had gone to the first full day we were here, I ordered a salad and a bakery item. I added a latte to have to drink and took a seat by the window.
I hope Lei's sour mood has nothing to do with me. I hope he's alright and whatever he is going through he will eventually open up to me if it's something that is really bothering him.
While waiting for my things to arrive at the table, I decided to check Ming De University online message board to see if there was anything interesting. Scrolling through some of the informational posts, my finger stopped at a post of a picture of Lei and I. I noticed this was posted Monday. I clicked on it wondering what it was about. The header read:
Scrolling down I looked to see what my classmates were commenting. It seemed like many of my classmates from the music department seemed happy and excited about my relationship with Lei. They congratulated us in their post and said some really nice things. It was then I scrolled a bit more to see comments from the rest of the school.
Eww. Why her of all people? How could Lei be interested in her? He would have been better with Teng Tang Jing. At least Jing was prettier. They don't even look good together. Why would he do this to himself? He can definitely do way better. I hope they break up.
Noo... not to that girl! I heard she can be stuck up when she wants to. There's a reason why Senior Doaming Si doesn't like her. He's the only one of the group who didn't congratulate them.
She's going to be the reason F4 breaks up. I'm calling it now. I remember Senior Meizuo was about to fight with Senior Lei in one of the practice rooms just the other week over her. She's no good. She should go back to America.
She's not even talented. Everyone in the music department hypes her up, but there's nothing special about her. I went to her performance when she first arrived and I don't see why she's so popular in the music world. I wouldn't buy her album when it comes out.
I closed out of my phone feeling hurt and frustrated comments like that would be posted on the school message board. I knew there would be negative comments, but I didn't think a great chunk of the school had something against me. Especially like this. This only brought me down and made me worry for when we both return to school tomorrow. My phone vibrated and a call from Daoming Si appears. I felt hesitant before answering the face call. Knowing if I ignored his call would only give a reason to find a way to pick on me. He appeared on my screen and it seemed like he was in his car. He put on a smirk after reading my mixed expression.
"Looks like you've seen what our classmates have been saying about you on the school message board," he chuckles. "Turns out many of them are really against you and Lei." Why does he always find a way to make me feel bad? Why can't he leave this alone?
"Wh-What do you want?" I sighed feeling like this situation couldn't get much worse. "Are you going to tell me to break up with Lei also? I'm not going to," I look down slightly knowing he was going to bother me.
"No, but I do know how the school thinks you're going to break up F4. I have a proposition for you."
"What?"
"If you don't want me to kick Lei out of the group, then you'll distance yourself from him when you get back. Our classmates won't hate on you more if you take my one request."
"Lei won't let that happen." I believed Lei would now stay by my side even though he was having his moody days. "We have classes together and are preparing for a recital together. That isn't possible."
"Then make it possible Faye," He said, folding his arms. "I don't care how you do it. Spend time with him outside of school. Spend time with him when he's not with Ximen, Meizuo, and I. It's not that hard."
"Lei is calling me," I spoke abruptly, not thinking twice wanting to leave this conversation.
"Think about what I said." I only nod before hanging up quickly and putting my phone down to massage my temples.
