《The Urge to Devour》15

Eleanor rests in the bedroom. I put my hand out to the window, wincing and taking it back. This has never happened before.

A cardinal sin, I imagine, would make god destroy the sun for me. And here, I'd been lumbering about, laboring under the idea my very existence was the cardinal sin.

It appears I can go lower. I'm almost impressed.

She shifts in the bed, I glance back at her. "I fear I've crossed the line taking you, Eleanor. I always thought you looked heaven sent. Perhaps you are."

She yawns, her hand slipping on the satin sheets. "Oi, you may be a vampire but I'm human. So feed me." She demands, yawning again.

I chuckle. "And what of your elegance, Eleanor?"

"I would say it fluttered away when you took me on the ground of an alley like a female dog."

I chuckle. Again, cupping her face. She stared at me, indifferent, her bare breast rest above the satin of the sheets, her eyes on mine.

She stands, no regard to cover her body. Once again, I should take up sculpting. To chisel her out of rock, and have her visage forever would be a gift.

She lifts a sheet over a canvas, glancing back at me.

"Two things. One, this is extremely concerning, and should be reported to the authorities," she remarks staring at a painting of herself.

I nod as she is correct and I cannot argue with that.

"Two, for a vampire your hearing seems faulty. You still haven't brought me anything to eat. Remedy it quickly."

"Yesterday you were shaking with fear," I note.

"Yesterday was yesterday. As your prisoner you have a duty to provide for my needs. So go get me food. " she instructs me once more, sitting back onto the bed, lounging.

Yes, that's Eleanor. She may be afraid, but her pride will not permit her to show it to me. I respect it. Admire her for it.

"You've cursed me for the sun," I tell her, slipping out of the room.

Liam is lounging as always. I pause. "Is that...blood? If so much is wasted on you, how much did you eat?"

Liam shrugs. "Enough. Is that woman still hostage? I have half a mind to alert the authorities, seriously?"

He flips around in the air, his hair hanging as he frowns. I open the cabinets. Of course it's empty. I don't eat.

"You have half a mind, anyway, barring this entire situation," I spin him around as I pass him.

He groans, as I cover myself. "I'm going out. Don't bother Eleanor."

I decided on a cafe, ready made, and just a short walk. Even beneath this coat the sun is baring down on my flesh. Ah...so not only am I cursed with eternal existence, I am cursed with the dark as well?

If the price was Eleanor, I will accept it. But in return I do plan to keep her. God may spite me, cut me off from the day, but I shall cut her off as well, a worthy trade.

A worthy sacrifice. I bring her back some food. I know all her likes and dislikes and she dislikes sweets in the morning.

If I'd have cake for breakfast I would she says. Savory only. I bring her a breakfast sand which, eggs, meat, and cheese. She takes it, eating it quietly, tucking her hair behind her ear to keep it out of her mouth.

I watch her eat. Something about watching her nourish her body is endearing to me. Perhaps because I know it will prolong her life.

Or maybe because she's excited when she eats something good. Her eyes light up a bit, and she leans back, as if satisfied with life.

I wonder what's the like. Being satisfied with life? I shake my hands, making her look up at me. She's adjusted as much as a human can.

Eleanor reminds me of a cat. She's quick on her feet, and unable to be humbled. With no clear merit, she seems to believe she owns whatever space she's occupied.

I tend to agree if not purely for her confidence.

"Stare at me forever will you?" She asks, setting the bag aside. She stretches, bringing the mark of my fangs to the light.

My claws came out. It shows.

"I'm sorry."

She looks up at me. "For what? Your existence? Keeping me here? Killing my fiancée on my wedding day? Ruining a very expensive dress?"

I raise my brow. "Would you like to leave?"

Eleanor stands, sauntering toward me. Her hands reach up, gracing my hair. I close my eyes. She pulls it roughly.

"I already have you marked, Alastair. You're an animal. A predator. You only want me to leave, so you can chase me down. It's amusing to you. Fulfilling even."

She's right.

"Ah, I see." I pull her in. "Then you think I'll tire of you if you do nothing, easy prey."

She shrugs. "I'll have it known I'm on vacation. My shop is paid off. You must provide for me. I'll enjoy myself."

I chuckle, leaning down. She starts to shake, as my fangs emerge.

"One thing you forget, dear. You will enjoy yourself...and so will I."
