《Temporary Alliance》Chapter 13 : Hints

No matter how many times I tossed and turned, I couldn't fall back asleep. Every single time I tried to close my eyes, lifeless ones stared back so when it was almost time to get up for work, I simply got dressed and went downstairs.
The kitchen was empty and I felt a small smile on my face. It amused me that I had beaten the early bird in terms of waking up because this never happens, ever. Even when we were kids, he would always beat me at waking up even when I had put five alarms two minutes apart from one another to shock me awake.
I looked around the kitchen and in the fridge, pulling out the things I needed to make a simple breakfast. Since I was up early with nothing to do, I took it upon myself to make Alexander and I breakfast. Besides, I needed to bribe him to keep what happened last night, or more specifically this morning a secret, and also no one needed to know about my scarred back.
As I almost finished frying the eggs and bacon, I heard soft footfalls approach me from behind.
"I made breakfast, Red." I stated without turning around to look at him. "About what happened, can we just keep it between the two of us because- "
Suddenly, I felt his hands on my hips. I turned my head around to face him, completely confused, only to notice that he was standing extremely close to me.
"Get out of my personal bubble." I narrowed my eyes at him unfriendlily, but he leaned in closer and planted a quick, soft kiss on my lips.
Then in the blink of an eye, he stepped back and started to get the plates for breakfast.
At this point, the table was set and pieces of bread were already on each of our plates. I placed an egg on each and split up the pieces of bacon, wondering why he was suddenly being so oddly nice.
"Is this your way of seducing me so that I lose the bet?" I raised a brow at him as I sat down and saw that Alexander was already seated and staring back at me.
He looked like he was contemplating something for a moment before his lips tilted up the slightest bit. "Sounds like a great idea."
I rolled my eyes and scoffed. "It's not going to work. I am perfectly immune."
As if he saw something interesting revealed in my eyes, he let out a deep chuckle. "We'll see, Angel."

Alexander finished eating before I did so he placed his utensils and plate in the sink. When I had my guard down, I felt a quick peck on my cheek and heard him whisper close to my ear.
"Leave them in the sink, I'll do it." His breath fanned over my neck and an involuntary shiver ran up my spine.
Clenching my jaw tight, I was about to swat him away, but he had already stepped out of my arm's reach. I saw a mischievous glint in his eyes before he turned away and went back upstairs.
He was smug and I could feel it radiating off him.
*
I was early this time and I sat in the car waiting for him.
Alexander got in a few seconds later, but he didn't start the car.
My eyebrows furrowed together in confusion. "Aren't we going?"
He turned and held my gaze. The worry and concern in his eyes for me my well-being made me understand what he was asking.
I nodded. "I'm good, Red. Ready to meet him so, let's go."
He looked at me for a me few more moments, as if trying to read me, then while clenching his jaw, he started the car and we headed out of the garage.
*
Alexander and Victor were in the viewing room, looking through the one-way mirror, while I stood in the interrogation room waiting for the criminal to walk in. The door creaked open and the man with hazel eyes stepped in with a guard right behind him.
Hazel Eyes looked at me and a smirk made a way onto his face. "Nice to see you again, Vita."
"Heard you were looking for me." I eyed him carefully as he took a seat across the table.
A smile broke on his face, eyes filled with a dark glint of mischievousness. "Yes. I promised I would reveal something interesting."
"And what might that be?"
He shook his head. "Amuse me, little girl. You tell me something interesting first."
My hands tightened into fists, but my face remained blank. I stared him down instead of answering.
His smile grew wider and revealed a flash of his teeth. "It could be fun."
I went around the table so I could be directly next to him and I grabbed his collar, then yanked his face close to mine. "I don't have time to play your silly little games. Your lack of cooperation is going to make it so that you will never see the sun again. The place I can put you in is going to be much worse than the supermax. Do we understand each other?""

It was then that my eyes caught on something that was inked onto his neck. I shoved him back into his seat and I roughly yanked down his collar to get a better look at his ink.
"The hell is this?" I asked, grabbing his neck and turning it to one side so that the whole tattoo could be revealed. Looked to be something like a snake baring its fangs.
"Tattoo."
I enclosed my hand tighter around his neck. "Some kind of cult that mark?"
He narrowed his eyes at me, immediately losing his easygoing attitude. "We are not some cult." He spat out the last word distastefully. "It's a show of loyalty to..." Hazel eyes trailed off as if he realized he had revealed too much.
"To what?"
When he didn't answer, I pinched the tender area of his neck a little harder. He put up a strong facade for a moment longer, pretending that what I was doing didn't affect him, but he soon began to gasp for breath.
"My... Clan..." He wheezed out.
Eying the ink much more carefully this time, I had realized that for some reason, it looked familiar.
"You going to let me go?" He gasped, out of breath, and I let him go abruptly. As he tried to steady his breathing, he now began to take me seriously and eyed me cautiously. "One tough little girl, aren't you?"
"You wanted to see me to tell me that?" I raised a brow.
He hesitated. "What would I get in return?"
"Are you really trying to make a deal with me right now?"
"Yes."
"Well, depending on what you tell me, I'll put in a good word. The better the information, the better I make you look in front of some important people that will decide your fate."
I could see that he was getting frustrated. His fists continued to clench and unclench, showing me that he was nervous even though his face wasn't revealing anything.
"I'll get you started. You guys were looking for an object. What is it?"
"A flash-drive."
"What's on it?"
"Boss never told us." He gritted his teeth as if he despised himself for the fact that he was telling us what we wanted to know.
I crossed my arms over my chest. "You sure?"
"Yes. Now, tell me little girl," He leaned forwards towards on his forearms, "what time is it?"
"Why do you want to know?"
"We know everything about you and let's just say you weren't our only target. Your parents, they're still alive because they have something to offer but, boss now knows that no one else has the location so you've all become expendable. Now, tell me the date and time."
The moment I told him, he laughed freely.
"Perfect. Team two's targets..." He trailed off once again with a smirk. His earlier fidgeting had stopped, showing that he had once again regained confidence. "Won't be alive for much longer."
My heart began to pound faster as I felt the adrenaline rush through my body. "Who?" I demanded, my emotionless mask almost breaking due to the fury boiling inside my veins.
His disgusting smirk grew a little wider and this immediately pissed me off. I pulled out my gun, took of the safety, then aimed it straight at his face.
"You can't kill me."
This time, it was my turn to smile. My lips lifted to a cruel, sadistic smirk. "There's plenty of places on the human body to shoot without being fatal." I aimed towards his knee. "Do you like walking? Running?"
He didn't answer, but I could tell that he had stiffened from my implication.
"From your silence, I guess not." I let out a dark chuckle. "So, you won't mind too much if I take a leg, right?"
I aimed towards the other one. "Or maybe two?"
He clenched his teeth and bared his teeth at me. "You can't do that."
"Really? Says who?" Lifting the aim of the gun, I pointed at his shoulder. "Would you like to offer your arms instead?"
I could tell that he was breaking, little by little. Before I was able to ask him once more, the door to this interrogation room burst open and Victor had stepped in, alone.
"Blades..." He didn't finish his sentence but I understood what was happening.
"Guess he figured it out." I heard Hazel Eyes from behind me, but I didn't bother to look at him.
"Get backup and follow Blades' car." I demanded while staring at Victor, then ran towards the exit of this place hoping that Alexander hadn't already driven away impulsively.
Team Two's targets were Mr. and Mrs. Blades and according to Hazel Eyes, they're striking now.

World Revisit
Having no collection of her past, a confused young girl ends up in world unknown to her. A world with the nature as their source of life and magic, but at the same time also the cause of their despair and sorrow. The world seems to be facing a dangerous calamity. Being treated as an intruder, she will have to gain the trust of the people around her and find a way to live through this mess. With not much hope left, what can be done to prevent it? Nobody knows for sure, but a battle of life and death is bound to come. NOTE: Consider this story as the first version. I want to keep working on it so that the story can actually finish at one point for future development. I want to eventually make it a webtoon comic, but the story still needs to be written and the art still needs be improved. So I'll keep writing for now, but expect the final result to be much better than the story now. Until then, I hope we can have a great time together with this writing experiment. Thanks!
