《Temporary Alliance》Chapter 1 : Re-encounter

I walked through the automatic sliding doors along with dozens of other passengers on my flight. Many family and loved ones of the people on the flight were anxiously waiting, eyes scanning every one of us, searching for who they came to this airport for.
Knowing that there was no one waiting for me, I quickly avoided eye contact with everyone and rapidly walked towards the exit.
Suddenly out of nowhere, someone grabbed onto my shoulder and called out my name. "Vita."
Upon turning around, Alexander's mom, Mrs. Charlotte Blades, smiled softly at me. I forced myself to calm down and return her smile the best I could. She was a tall woman, beating my 5 ft 7 height by almost two inches, with an athletic build, light brown hair and hazel eyes.
"Mrs. Blades. What a surprise. I wasn't expecting anyone."
"There will always be someone to pick you up, Vita." She wrapped an arm around my shoulders and guided me towards the exit that lead to one of the many parking lots. "Welcome home, darling."
I looked away as my expression darkened. "Thank you," I replied as calm and sweet as possible while the feeling of absolute bitterness begin to brew slowly inside me.
As we arrived in the vast underground parking filled with cars of different sizes and colors, the icy air nipped at my bare arms.
"If you didn't know, your parents are gone on a mission so we decided to come pick you up from the airport," Mrs. Blades informed we as we approached two black suvs that had tinted windows both in the front and back. "I have an urgent meeting to get to so I have to go. Alexander can take you home and get you settled. We stocked up very lightly on food so you might want to go grocery shopping in the next few days. Okay?"
I stopped moving upon hearing who was here as well. "I'll catch a taxi home."
Mrs. Blades frowned at me. "Vita Simmons, nonsense. Alexander drove a car here as well. He'll drive you home."
She didn't need to tell me. I had noticed him sitting in the car we were approaching, looking at his phone. He still didn't see me yet so I still had time to make a run for it, but Mrs. Blades held me in place.
When I was about to slither out of Mrs. Blades' tight grip, his dark eyes meet mine and I froze. He opened the door and stepped out.
While I barely grew an inch during high school, he didn't stop growing until near the end of university. He towers over me standing by being at least 6 ft 3, with a lean muscular build and broad chest and shoulders along with long legs. Dark hair that was a little over an inch in length, dark eyes and slight golden tan. I noticed that his presence is as big and intimidating as it always was, but it didn't bother me, never did. Handsome, but I would never tell him that.
"Vita," Alexander greeted me, his voice deep and smooth, just like it always was after his voice had drastically changed.
This time, I didn't bother to hide my darkened expression and held his gaze.
"Alexander," I replied nonchalantly as if I wasn't planning just a few seconds ago to quickly evacuate the premises in utmost secrecy to successfully avoid him like I had for the past 4 years.
"I really have to go." Mrs. Blades tightly squeezed me then went into her car. With a quick wave and a small smile, she drove off, leaving me alone with a man that I would rather avoid by walking home in the rain than catch a ride with.

"I'm gonna go catch a cab, Red," I told him as we continued our mini stare-off.
"Get in." His expression was as blank as ever as he curtly gave me what seemed like an order.
Alexander was never one to talk very much and that made everything he say seem important somehow.
Not wanting to show him that he irritated the life out of me, I opened the backseat door and slid my small suitcase and my backpack inside. Then, I got into the passenger seat and waited for him to take me home.
"Vita," Alexander began but I quickly cut him off, not wanting any kind of communication with him.
"Don't talk to me." I faced the window and simply closed my eyes thinking that I should have just made a run for a taxi instead, no matter how bad it made me look.
Anything was better than being alone with him.
*
The tension in the car was suffocating and I was about to cry with joy when we finally stopped in front of my family home, a decently large single home with a garage big enough to fit four cars. From the outside, it looked normal but it had intensely wired security. Both my parents and Alexander's parents worked for the government in the defense field but we were taught from a very young age to never question our parents nor what they do, so I never did.
"It was nice to see you." Alexander didn't look at me as he softly said those words. He simply looked forwards with a cold gaze.
I glared at him with an icy glare of my own as I opened the door to get out. "Sorry, but I can't say the same."
Slamming the door shut and quickly getting my things out, I made my way towards my home without ever glancing back once but I felt his gaze follow me until I was safely inside.
I looked around and saw that nothing much had changed inside. It was the same it always was. I stared into the mirror that was near the front door. Light blue eyes stared back at me. I had very dark brown hair with a slight tan due to the fact that I was usually outside. Unable to stand the reflection of myself, I quickly took off my combat boots and climbed up the stairs to go into my room. Once I placed my things onto the floor of my bedroom, I decided to take a quick shower and go make something easy to eat. I sat around for a little while, getting used to being back home, and I debated whether or not I wanted to go to bed since the sun had set a long time ago and I was tired from the long flight. However, I was well aware of the dangers of my own mind and wasn't sure I wanted to take that chance.
*
I shot up awake and grabbed at my chest, fisting my loose t-shirt. My rapid heartbeat pounded against rib cages, threatening to jump out of my chest, and my skin was clammy with sweat. Breaths were quick and light while my hands shook slightly. Looking around my bed, I must have tossed and turned furiously while I slept because the blanket that I wrapped myself tightly in before I fell asleep, wasn't even on the bed anymore. One pillow joined the blanket on the floor, casually tossed on top of it, and the other was dangerously about to tip over and off of my bed. I quickly grabbed that pillow and buried my face into it and pulled my legs to my chest. I forced myself to take deep breaths.

After a few moments, I couldn't take it anymore. I couldn't do it.
Placing the pillow on the bed, I grabbed some clothes and headed straight for the bathroom. When I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror, I stiffened upon seeing my reflection. What caught my attention the most was the haunted look in my eyes that I couldn't hide. Unable to look at my pathetic self any longer, I tore my gaze away and hopped in under the spray of ice cold water.
As I started to return to my senses, the grief and sorrow were replaced by anger. Anger directed at myself.
I caught my reflection again as I got out.
If only I didn't...
My fist flew towards the reflection of my face in the mirror and it cracked from the sudden force. When I saw the glint of the military dog tag on my counter, it broke me out of my trance.
"Damn it." I mumbled to myself in disappointment as I took the dog tag and rushed out of the bathroom.
I was slowly losing control of my emotions and I couldn't stop it.
*
Mid-day after lunch, the doorbell rang and I saw a delivery truck.
I took a knife and casually hid it behind my back then I went to open the door, senses alert. A delivery woman stood in front of me.
"Vita Simmons?" She asked impassively.
"Yes."
"Some identification please."
I looked for my wallet and handed over my drivers licence and health card. When she confirmed who I was, she simply nodded at me and walked over to her truck, taking out a long cardboard box.
"This is for you. Have a nice day," She told me curtly and simply drove off.
I opened one flap and immediately upon realizing what it was, I ran up the stairs and shoved the box under my bed then stepped away, shocked. Unable to believe what was just delivered to my front door, I hurriedly stepped out of my bedroom.
*
It was after dinner today that I decided to do some grocery shopping of my own and as I got ready to leave, my doorbell rang for the second time in 24 hours.
Sighing, I walked towards the door and the moment I saw who it was, I didn't bother waiting for a greeting and simply closed the door. As I walked to the garage, the front door opened from behind me.
I rolled my eyes. "Of course. How could I forget that you also had access to this house," I mumbled bitterly to myself but continued on my way.
"Are you armed?" I heard Alexander ask gruffly from behind.
This time, I did turn around to face him. Raising an eyebrow, I stated calmly, "I'm going to buy food."
He simply nodded then went down to sit on a sofa. Exasperated, I got out as fast as my legs could take me.
*
I looked up towards the sky in my car. "Please let him be gone," I murmured to myself.
No such luck. Alexander was right where he was when I left an hour ago, asleep.
I organized everything I just bought and saw that he was still there, sleeping in utmost relaxation.
Not wanting to have to talk to him if he wakes up, I simply went up to my room. It was not long after that I heard the front door close and I knew that he had left. Unconsciously, I fiddled with my dog tag chain in confusion.
The next time I saw him was not until the next night.
*
It was too early to sleep but it was too late to go anywhere so I changed into a sports bra with a tank top and short before I went down into the basement. The basement was fully equipped with all sort of exercising machines and weights on one half and the other half was just open space cushioned with mats.
I was heading straight for the punching bags when I heard the stairs that leads to the basement give a little squeak due to weight.
My heartbeat quickened and I quickly made a run for the hidden spot right under the stairs. Grabbing the bat right next to me, I waited until whoever that was trying to sneak up on me make an appearance. As soon as the creaking stopped, I got out and swung towards my target. Realizing it was Alexander, I stopped myself mid swing.
"What in the world were you thinking sneaking up on me!" I yelled.
"It was not my intention."
I huffed out, irritated, as I placed the bat near the steps.
"What are you doing here." I rubbed my face, annoyed at the fact that I had seen him again.
He pointed towards the mats behind him with his thumb. "Spar with me."
"You're in a suit."
Alexander began walking towards the bench near the mats while shrugging off his suit jacket then proceeded to roll up his sleeves up, revealing his strong forearms. I followed behind him, eyeing him suspiciously.
I placed the dog tag I was wearing on the edge of the bench then followed him to the center of the mats.
"Why are you really here?" I frowned.
The look on his face told me he wasn't going to talk to me so I got into position and so did he. We sparred for at least an hour when I went up stairs to get a drink of water. When I came back down I saw him sitting on the bench grabbing for the dog tag and I made a run for him.
He stared intently at the dog tag as if trying to read it. "Who's..."
I yanked it out of his hands. "Don't," I snarled at him. "Why do you even do you even bother with me. After forgetting like I didn't exist, why? Am I suddenly worth having your attention now?"
He infuriated me even more when he didn't answer.
"Don't tell me," I rolled my eyes and my words laced with so much venom that I wished could poison him, "you suddenly missed me?"
A moment of heavy silence fell upon us. Knowing that he was probably not going to answer, I turned around to leave. When I took one step of the stairs, that's when I heard it. His quiet response.
"I did."
This fueled my anger even more. "Well I didn't. I liked our relationship before. The nonexistent kind."
With that, I quickly ran up the stairs, away from him, more confused than ever.
*
Alexander had left hours ago and it was currently 3 in the morning and I couldn't fall asleep. Not wanting to roll around in bed for another two hours, I changed into a pair of jeans and a t-shirt then made my way down into the kitchen to get a drink of water.
I heard footsteps approach me and I sighed, irritated. "Red, just go home and leave me alone. I don't want to deal with you right now."
The moment I commented, I realized my mistake. There was more than one shadow.
I took one of the smaller kitchen knives and waited patiently for them to show themselves.
When the first leg stepped past the corner, I made a quick swipe at the neck of whoever it was but he stepped back just in time. But, I had quickly placed a leg behind his and he tripped, landing on his back. He was wearing all black along with combat boots and a black mask to cover half of his face.
Placing the knife right under his chin, putting pressure, I held him there. "Who are you?" I questioned threateningly but I froze when I heard the distinct slide of a semi automatic gun from behind me.
"Get up, slowly, face me." Doing what was asked, I turned towards him only to see the head of a gun pointed straight at my forehead.
He wasn't standing alone. There were three more that stood near him, all wearing the same thing. Black long-sleeve shirt, black pants, black boots and a black mask to cover half of their faces.
There were five men in total from what I could count.
"Vita Rayne Simmons?" The man holding the gun at me questioned.
I didn't answer, instead, I put on a blank mask. Very few people knew my full name.
"Unfortunately, you're coming with us." He signaled the person that I pinned down a few seconds ago with the tilt of his head.
I felt a wet cloth being put over my mouth and nose.
"We have some questions for you."
Just like that, the world faded to black.

Except for the first 4 chapters, Book 2 has been moved to Amazon Kindle Unlimited. If you do not have the financial means to purchase the books, then you may DM me on discord through my discord channel for a pdf version of the book. There is only one main protagonist, but the story does have more than one perspective that it is told from. It's mostly first person from the main protagonist and third person perspective for the livestreams. The beginning of the story has also been massively rewritten since most of the reviews as of 1/23/2022. The release schedule right now is dependent on my college classes and coursework, but I always try to keep it to at least one chapter every other day, if not one chapter every day. I do not write sexual content or harem stuff. I am also not very interested in writing romance, so if you think you might see some romance, then you are probably wrong unless it's only a slight hint at romance or a slow romance very far into the story. Lastly, know that I don't like long-winding antagonists that get on everyone's nerves and last throughout the entire story. And I do like plot twists, so if you are predicting something that you think is going to happen later on that you dislike, (particularly around the middle to end of book two) then it likely won't happen.
