《Scarlet Taste (Vampire! Yandere x Emotionless! Reader)》16. Hiding something

You didn't show up to school. It made sense though... your mother just died. What didn't make sense is why your brother still showed up. Didn't he care about his own mother?

Joel watched Cayden from across the cafeteria.

She wasn't invited to the funeral, but the she knew about it. The whole town did. She felt bad and she would've called you if she had your number.... or if you had a phone...

She couldn't help but worry about you. Your brother is an ass, but you... you were actually really nice. You were someone worth protecting and someone who needed protecting. You were just too fragile and ignorant for the world. You didn't understand most things. Joel found herself smiling at the thought of you asking one of your weird questions.

"I don't get it. Why is this interesting?" You'd probably say while watching that was considered funny.

She liked how blunt you were, but you were basically clueless about everything. She wished you were there with her...

She frowned.

Joel was alone.

Aiden and Liam avoided her. She tried to talk to them, but they always brushed her off. Aiden looked stressed out and Liam looked horrified. She's never seen Liam look so tense, so... scared. Something was definitely going on and they left her out if the loop. She thought that maybe, after school, she would come visit you and ask you about it. You were smart so she knew you would figure it out before her.

With a smile on her face, Joel got up and dumped her untouched food into a nearby trash bin. She was determined to come visit you today.

You and Cain stared at each other for a while. You two have been sitting in silence for about an hour. Cain was reading, and you were trying to process every detail of the room. You were in some sort of personal library or maybe it was a living room with tons of books in it.

(Flash back)

"Why didn't you tell me this before?" You asked. "Hiding what you truly are... Did you think I'd be scared?"

Cain sits up in the bed, letting go of you.

"I'll tell you all about it, but I don't want to do it here." Cain mumbles.

He looked sad, but then again, he was sad a lot.

Cain lifted you out from the bed, carrying you in his arms.

(End of flash back)

Cain's house was much bigger than your house. You wouldn't call it a mansion, but you would call it a normal house either. The house was cozy for it's size. Cain carried you down a set of stairs. There were a few squares in the wall that were slightly lighter than the paint. There probably was pictures there. When he was at the bottom of the stairs, he took a left. You passed the kitchen and the dinning room. The table in the dinning room had enough seats for about ten people.

When you got to the living room, the first thing you noticed was a large painting on the wall right above the chimney. It was a painting of a family.

A stern looking mother, a soft spoken father, and two twin boys. Both the mother and father had black hair and blue eyes. The happy boys below them had blue eyes as well, but one of them didn't actually have black hair.

One of the twin boys had platinum blonde hair. He was smiling just like his brother, but his brother had a more confidence air around him while the platinum haired boy looked more timid and shy. That's what it felt like. You wondered how the artist captured such feelings.

"What are you thinking about?" Cain asks, snapping back onto reality.

The library was cold, just like the rest of the house. It confused you since it was summer.

"Nothing important." You say. "Could you light the chimney please?"

Cain nods, grabbing a pack of matches from the top of one of the many book cases. Once he lights the fire, he takes a seat next to you.

You were sitting comfortably on an ancient looking sofa. Despite how old it looked, it wasn't very dusty and it was in good condition.

"You wanted to ask me some things right?" Cain say, smiling at you.

There was nervousness hidden in his smile. Cain's scary act that he put on as John's house wasn't enough to fool you. Cain was a cry baby. Ever since he cried because he thought that you had left him, you knew that he was one. You hoped he didn't cry too much while you were gone all those years. He was about as tough as Aiden.

Was it your fault that he was acting so weird?

"What were you doing to John' family? Why?" You say, playing with you (h/l) hair.

"I thought it was obvious..." Cain says, looking only at the fire in the chimney.

"It is, but I want you to confirm it."

"I was drinking from him and his wife. That's all."

"John said the only way to stop you is if I give myself up." You mumble. "Is that true?"

"I told him that I wouldn't drink from his family if he gave you up. He clearly didn't understand what I meant." Cain says softly, hoping that you somehow wouldn't hear.

"I see." You say. There was a long and awkward silence.

The lack of noise scared Cain. What were you thinking? Were you disgusted with him, were you mad, did you hate him now? After what seemed like an eternity, you place you hand on top of his, which was resting in his knee.

"Does it.... does it taste good?" You whisper. You don't know why, but you felt somewhat embarrassed. You face remained blank, but your cheeks turned a soft shade of pink.

Surprisingly, it didn't take Cain long to find the courage to look at you. Your cheeks were flushed and you were staring at your feet, which was a cute habit of yours. He couldn't stop staring at you, his eyes wide with shock. He wasn't expecting you to ask such a question, nor did he think you would make such a face.

He found it cute.

"Everyone's blood taste different. Sometimes..." Cain pauses. He was also embarrassed. "it's good and sometimes it's bad. John's... blood was sorta salty and his wife's blood was a bit sweet, but it's easy to get tired of her... um... flavor." Cain says, biting his lip.

"Oh. That's interesting." You say, the redness in your cheeks slowly vanishing. "I have another question."

"Go ahead."

"Who are the people in that painting?" You asks, pointing up at the wall right above the chimney.

"I... I don't know..." Cain says, stuttering. He looked away from you, playing with his hands.

You stare at him, you couldn't tell if he was lying or not so you would take his word on it. He was special and just like your mother's secrets, you wouldn't pry.

"Okay." You say. You shiver as a sudden cold breeze sweeps through the room.

It didn't look like Cain felt that. You look down at your stomach.

Just now, you realize that all the fabric below your breast was shear. This was lingerie. You always wondered what lingerie was for. You felt naked, which wouldn't actually a bad thing to you if it wasn't so cold in the house. The shear gown covered you breast just fine which was great. As long as your bare breast wasn't just hanging out there, than you would be fine.

Your mother always told you to keep your privates private, but she didn't actually tell you how covered they should be so you didn't care that Cain could literally see you underwear.

What also changed things for you was when you had a sleepover at Joel's, she had somehow convinced you that since you two were friends, it was okay to change in front of each other. You didn't know that she meant since you were both girls, so you just assumed that since Cain is your friends, you could dress in front of him too. That's one of the main reasons why you don't care about what you are currently wearing (and what you are not wearing) at the moment.

Your stomach growls.

Cain perks up. He give you a wide childish smile. It was a smile that you weren't used to having directed at you.

"Oh? I'll make your breakfast okay?" He seemed excited. "I haven't cooked in so long."

Cain picks you up again. You were thankful that he did. You assumed that all the floors in the house were as cold as the bedroom floor and you didn't have shoes on. He leaves the living room with you in his arms, walking back down the way he came.

Cain takes you to dinning room that you saw earlier. All of the chairs were covered in a thin layer of dust.

"Sorry about the dust." Cain chuckles, trying to set you down on the ground.

You latch onto him, hugging him as tight as you could.

"What are you doing?" Cain asks, confused.

Did he do something wrong?

"I want to help." You say.

"W–what?" Cain stutters, setting your bare feet in the ground.

You were right... the floor is cold.

You place you hands on Cain's shoulders, looking up into his mesmerizing red eyes.

"Let me help." You say.

Cain nods, his mouth agape. You wanted to help him cook... like a wife.

He was happy. You made him happy. Everything about you made him happy. He's known you since you were a little kid and you two were supposed be friends, but he wasn't sure if friends were supposed to feel this way. Even when you couldn't visit him, he still liked to watch you sometimes. Did friends do that?

Honestly, he didn't think that you would convert him back to his old self so quickly. He planned on treating you like a stranger as a form of revenge for leaving him all alone at that park for so many nights, but you were too sweet to resist. The way you looked at him this morning only made it worse. He didn't think he would actually... feel this way.

You've grown up to be so beautiful and you were so... motherly. The way you treated him was so refreshing.

And now, you were going to help him cook... just like what married couples do.

Cain smiles.

"Let's cook."
