《Golden Glow: Curses from this High One》Chapter 6

Once Guy had logged in and immediately skipped over the title screen and logged into Nemesis. His surroundings glowed a bright almost violent light before fading into the dark and damp caves that he had logged out in. The cave was very dark, even darker when Nemesis had no one round to make a light.
Nemesis clenched her fists and bravely went forward. That is until she saw several pairs of red eyes in the dark. Immediately she ceased her movement and began to formulate a plan. Any frontal assault was off the table, she lacked the durability to last against several enemies. She pondered several other strategies before settling on one she was convinced would work. In her previous battle, when she cursed a rat with [(Lesser) Weaken I] it pulled almost all aggro towards Her. If the aggro targeting worked how she thought it worked then it would only aggro the targets affected by the attack. If it was AoE aggro effect then she might as well put all her points into Pow.
Speaking of points, she still had points to spend from her level up. Nemesis quickly brought up her status page and began to mull over it.

If Nemesis wanted to meta-game she would certainly try to diversify her build ,but this was no longer about becoming as strong as possible. This was all to have fun and piss other players off by not playing to the 'Meta'. She immediately put Half of her points into Knw and the other into Wis. Her status page disappeared for several seconds before reappearing with the new stats.

She nodded her head in satisfaction. Lifting her hand up, focusing on the Rat to the left, and through the darkness the Rat lightly glowed with a golden color. She then interacted with the spell slot containing Lesser weaken and cast it onto the Rat. Unlike her last battle, this time she targeted its Hp instead of its Sp. The experience from that made Her realize that the Rats had a large amount of stamina and putting a stamina Curse on them did nothing but annoy the Rats.
Cast (Lesser) Weaken I on Rat Lv1! Rat has -4Hp for 13 seconds!
A pair of red eyes immediately began to charge at Nemesis, the darkness didn't hinder it at all as it nimbly moved toward her moving from side to side, hopping around some unseen holes. Preparing herself Nemesis got ready to jump to the side to dodge it as it steadily closed the distance between them. Her hands tightened into balls as time seemingly slowed down and the Rat leaped off the ground straight at her. She moved out of the way just enough that she dodged the Rats bite, but its claws found their mark on her shoulder pushing her down with it as it began to maul her.
Rat Lv1 mauled You! -5Hp
The commotion alerted the other to Rats and they swiftly made their way to her. She knew that defeating all three Rats was not likely so she began punching the Rats that were closest to her with consecutive punches.
You punched Rat Lv1!(x4) Rat has lost 4Hp
The Rat was enraged by her constant struggle and squirming and bit down on her neck. Nemesis immediately went into fight or flight mode and relinquished a flurry of panicked punches. Her hand felt like it was buzzing as she continued with the punching until the rat finally slumped over her.
Rat Lv1 bit You! -7Hp Rat Lv1 was Killed! +10xp Rat Lv1 was Killed! +1xp
Without time for a single breath Nemesis was tackled and killed by the other two Rats. Her screen faded to black and she was met with a single ominously red status board.

You have Died... You lose any Experience points gained. Respawn? Logout?
Nemesis sighed heavily then pressed the respawn option. Her surroundings faded from a black void to the gate out in front of the starting town. Time for a retry... perhaps even sign up for that adventures guild thing for the extra Xp. Nemesis walked back into town through the gate slowly making her way around town. The row of shops she crossed earlier when she went to join Luckas was rather nice looking, not in a gaudy or expensive way but rather homely -At least for the people living there-.
Nemesis walked into a shop with a sign that showed a dagger that would seem to indicate that it was a weapon shop. The shop was cramped, there was a total of seven different weapon types stored in seven different rows, two of which were lined snuggly against the wall of the shop. The NPC shopkeeper stood behind the counter placed next to the door, so at least players didn't have to tip-toe through the cramp walkways. The NPC shop keep was nothing special just your typical weapons keep character; bald, beard, and a mean look to him. If going by normal fantasy tropes he would also have some sick or in danger loved one -probably a girl-.
Nemesis walked out of the shop not too impressed. It seemed the devs skipped out on interesting NPCs at the very beginning of the game. She wasn't too surprised as the customization and sheer amount of classes were impressive enough, but she still hoped that there would be some amount of detail in the everyday NPCs. Then again she had only seen one shop owner, so being that negative was only a precaution. Nemesis made her way over to another shop, this one had a sign with potions and a grindstone carved onto it. She was a little confused at what it was supposed to be, but upon entering the shop Nemesis immediately understood what the shop was selling.
It was an item shop.
The inside of this shop was significantly more lit than in the weapons shop. Even though the shopkeeper was the same model the shopkeeper in the Weapons shop looked more intimidating -it was most likely the light playing trick on her mind though-... She went up to the shopkeeper and began to search for items to buy. Quite a few of them were out of her buying power and there were few items that she could use on a solo adventure. That didn't mean that there were none that caught her eyes though.
Escape Rope (x1)
"All Dungeon explorers need a rope to escape from deadly situations. NO REFUNDS" -Unknown shopkeeper
This is a one-time-use item that can be stacked. Using it will move you to the previous floor you were on.
(Certain rooms prohibit the use of escape rope!)
Cost: 150 G
'The rope would have certainly helped me earlier in escaping the dungeon with the bit of Xp I had built up, but its price is absurd for being a one-time use item.' Nemesis pondered. The next item was much more valuable than the escape rope.
(Lesser) Health Potion(x1)
"I put a bit of alcohol in it, so that should help with the taste. Just don't leave it in the sun, nobody wants to smell like undead..." - Unknown shopkeeper
This is a one time use item that can NOT be stacked. Consuming it will heal you.
+10 Hp
Cost: 100 G
The usefulness of this item was obvious. Nemesis had 13 Hp total so having an immediate recovery of almost all her health would be massive. Though the price was still a big problem as Nemesis still had no clue about making money other than that adventuring might pay a bit...
"I suppose that my current funds call for work? Adventuring would be quite easy, what do you say?" Nemesis stared at the NPC Shopkeeper. Obviously, he did not talk back, but that didn't mean that she wouldn't act like he didn't!
"Yes, I know. They are quite the group of mongrels, but even mongrels have some uses."
Deciding that she was done procrastinating Nemesis made her way over to where the adventure guild was described to be.

Wildling
Blurb: Silas--a scavenger living off the ruins of humanity--has spent his entire life fighting tooth and nail to provide for himself and his crew. But when a scavenging run goes awry and he's snatched up by an android patrol, he finds himself thrown into a cage and priced to sell as a pet. And when a suitor comes calling, he fears the worst: that he'll be turned into a Domestic, a human lapdog brainwashed into total obedience. Instead, he discovers an equally disturbing truth: that the creatures who stole his world have created a videogame the likes of which Earth has never seen; a sprawling, game-like theme park where humans are the Avatars and androids are the players who control them. And to make matters worse, his android guide is as hopeless as they come, having gotten all of her previous Avatars killed in record time. So if Silas wants to regain his freedom, he'll not only have to fight his way through a world that was specifically designed to murder him in brutal fashion--he'll also have to convince his android guide that he should be the one calling the shots. FAQS: Q: Who are you, handsome stranger? A: I'm Kyle Kirrin, the author of Shadeslinger, book 1 of The Ripple System, published by Portal Books, and I write crunchy LitRPG. Q: What is Wildling? And is it complete? A: Wildling is a crunchy LitRPG mash up of Fantasy and Science Fiction. And yup, Wildling is already complete at 64 chapters, or about 120,000 thousand words. You're looking at something like a third draft here--it's fairly polished, but it hasn't been picked over by a copy editor yet nor has my developmental editor seen it. Q: Upload schedule? A: 5 initial chapters today (2/15/2021) and one chapter a day for the next month. After that I'll probably slow down to 2 or 3 chapters a week until the story is complete. Q: How crunchy is it? A: It's pretty crunchy. I'd put it on the same tier as Ascend/The Land/RSSG, but it might be a bit crunchier than those three? Q: Is this the first book in a series or a web novel or what? And what are your plans for it? A: It's currently a standalone with series potential. Full disclosure: this story may head the way of my publisher eventually, but will be available on RR for quite a while no matter what. Likely several months after it's complete with plenty of warning before/if it's taken down. Q: What kind of build does the MC create? A: Sword and board! Q: Crafting? A: Plenty! Crafting isn't as center stage as it is in The Way of the Shaman, but it's close. Q: Base building? A: Two fully separate, distinct bases, both of which play a major role in the story. Q: VRMMO? Portal? Reincarnation or what? A: This one's a bit tricky. Basically an advanced race has created a game-like world that closely resembles a theme park. Think Westworld but with copious amounts of loot. And the MC has to fight his way through that to earn his freedom. Q: Permadeath? A: Nope! The MC gets 3 lives to play through the entirety of the game world, and death is extremely punishing, but not fatal. Q: Harem? Or romance? A: No and no. Q: Cursing? Blood? A: Quite a bit of cursing, yeah. There's blood, too, but it's not a gory book by any means. Q: How can I support? A: Instead of a Patreon/donations etc, I'd ask that you consider giving my debut LitRPG Shadeslinger a chance. It's free on Kindle Unlimited and the audio is already out narrated by Travis Baldree. It's an epic fantasy VRMMO where the main character gets 3 days of exclusive access to a new game plus a snarky, talking axe to guide him through it in exchange for agreeing to become the target of a serverwide manhunt once the Head Start period ends. Q: How's it similar to Wildling? And how's it different? A. The crunch level is very similar, but Shadeslinger is a much lighter, epic fantasy take on the genre. It's also VRMMO, but without any real world components aside from the first chapter. The MC is very different--he comes off as a bit of a jerk early on and can take a bit to warm up to, especially before his backstory is revealed--but he's also got a talking axe that constantly puts him in his place. Shadeslinger's a much more humorous story in general, and it's a great deal more polished as well. Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoy Wildling!

Reinventing the Struggle
The (sort of) original working title for this was "Reincarnated into a neo-feudal world of mecha knights, I will reinvent the panzerkampfwagen and mess up the social political order!" or something along those lines. And honestly that's a good enough synopsis given the nature of isekai titles. This story is unapologetic trash but at least it's the least cringe stuff I have written so far, so here it goes.
