《The Chronicles of The Green wizard》013: Pre-trial jitters.

Garion pulled the hood of his rough grey ragged down further over his face. it was all he could do to shield his eyes from the sunlight beaming down through the great windows that lit the stone corridors. he knew better then to try asking the inquisitor, who was now leading him onwards through the corridors, any questions. he knew that the response would either be silence or violence or both. instead he turned his attention to the corridors themselves, committing the path they took to his memory. then walked for a dozen or so corridor in silence. Garion in his grey rags. Rika in his flesh leather armour.

Eventually they stopped before a large door. Rika turned to Garion. "i have to inform you of one thing before we enter the room." he said in a tone that suggested he found the words unpleasant to say. "Have to?" Garion asked. Rika stood for while in thought, considering how to reply. "Legally speaking. I must tell you that you are about to stand trial for crimes against the kingdom" Rika said at last. this was no shock to Garion. he had been given no information about why he had been brought to Drackenfell. He had guessed he had broken some law or another somehow. "What crimes?" Garion asked. at least if he could find out what he had been accused of he may be able to come up with a defence. "That i cannot tell you" Rika answered with a sneer. "you will be informed once you trial begins. oh and one last thing." Rika reached for the door handle. "this is military court" Rika said before he pushed Garion through the door.

As he stumbled into the room the two robes servants waiting on either side of the door each grabbed him by an arm. the room was a small square stone room. The only feature of any significance was a dark metal chair in its centre. It was as Garion was marched toward it he noticed the large chains worked into the metal of the chairs arms. He struggled against the guards but its was futile. He was forced into the chair and the chains where locked into place. The two robed figures walked behind his eyeline and he heard the loud knocks, a door opening and foot steps approaching.

"This is the one?" asked the owner of the footsteps. after presumably receiving some non-verbal indication from the servants he proceeded to stand in front of where Garion sat chained to the chair. Garion looked over the new comer. He was dressed in long flowing coat. it was made from the same material as Rika's armour. some form of flayed skin. but where Rika's had been hardened into hard plates or armour, the new comer's had been worked into a long flowing over coat. "Mister Greensleeves i presume?" The man asked as he placed his leather case down on the floor at the foot of Garion's chair. Hey took a large pair of metal tongs from the bag, followed by a glass jar sealed with a dark metal lid, as he began to unscrew the lid. "Mister Greensleeves. I must at this point ask if you wish to continue with the trial or if you would prefer the king's justice?" he asked raising the jar up to his eyeline and peering inside. He gave the jar a shake, looked inside again and then turned to look down at Garion. the wizard in the grey robes looked back defiantly. "Why would i want a quick death when im innocent?" he spat. struggling against the restraints for no other reason then to protest. there was no need for the chains after all.

"there are many who prefer a quick death to facing the trial. once they learn what is next that is." the man in the flayed coat brought the jar down to garion's face allowing him to get his first look inside. there was an ugly bug like creature inside. it hissed menacingly at Garion as he peered through the jar. it was no bigger then two inches head to tail. it had a large stinger on its tail and two large mandibles. tiny puffs of smoke seemed to been emanating from its armoured carapace. "do you know of this creature?" The man holding the jar asked. Garion shook his head unable to take his eyes off the bug. "This is a Heart-wyrm." The man said simply "It will tell us if you are telling the truth or not." The man started to unscrew the jar. He reached inside with the long metal tongs. "How?" Garion asked.

The man did not answere Garion's questions. instead he nodded and garion felt two pairs of strong armoured hands pull his head back. Garion opened his mouth to scream in protest but the guard forced his mouth to remain open. The insuisitor moved over him. Garion saw the creauture being lowered into his mouth. He tried to bite down but the metal tong prevented him from being able to eat the creauture. Garion coughed and spluttered as he felt the but crawling down his windpipe. He gasped to the Man with the jar and tongs"What did you do to me?" The man did not answere the question instead choicing to give Garion a peice of advice witch in the years to come he would look back on as some of the most valuable advice he had ever been given. "the most important thing to do now. is not lie." With that the man packed his tongs and jar back into the bag. gave a nod to the servants and left the room.

The servants the moved into action. They unchained Garion from the chair and once again each servant grabbed one of Garion's arms. he was marched through into the next chamber. As they enter the next large stone chamber garion managed to get a look around. the rom contained maybe thirty or so people. a mixture of hooded servants and grey robed prisoners all lined the room on long wooden benches. Garion was marched towards a long bench and teh trio sat down. on the opposite bench infront of Garion's trio a near identical pair of servants sat with an old man. The man was looking at Garion "What are you in for?" he asked Garion. Garion thought for a moment. in the end he decided to tell the truth seeing no reason to lie. "I have no earthly idea" Garion said quietly to the man. "Yeah mate, me neither" he chuckled before suddenly he stopped chuckling. his eye opened wide in sudden fear "No wait i didnt mean it he said cluching to a hand to his chest "it was a joke i swear." his chest began to glow with a ready light. "Plea-" The man's words where cut short. his head and hand burst its flame. it was to quick for the man to scream but garion held the manns eye contact as he burst into flame. The man's body slumped forwards onto the floor.

Garion swore an oath in his mind to be silent unless absolutely necessary from now on. The servant on either side stood up. each one picked up either end of the now burnt corpse towards on of the exits to the room. as the passed Garion's seat he caught a with of rotten eggs coming from the body. He closed his eyes and tried to meditate. there was still atleast six other prisoners in the room. but it was no use. when he closed his eyes he could hear the clicking of the heart wyrm's teeth. and so it was he sat there for hours as three by thre thre crowd was lead from the room. every so often a black tunic clad guard would enter and indicate witch prisoner was due to move on from the room. Garion watched all of them leave. None of them dared to speak. Either to worried of bursting into flame themselves or unwilling to speak of there crimes.

And so it was after many hours the guards came for Garion with a nod his servants stood up and pulled him from the chair. As he left the waiting room he took in a deep breathe. It was time his questions were answered. He was lead to a door similiar to that of the door at the entrance to Brackenfall's Keep. It too was large in size and ornately carved however the carving where of a darker more sinister tone depicting dark rituals of blood and sacrifice. The servant to his left opened the door and the one on his right pushed him inside the room. neither of them followed him inside. he heard the door close behind his with a definitive clunk. Garion turned to take a look at the room at large. He realised he had been pushed fourth into a wooden dock. to his left much higher up then him he could see a high table. the room below the podium was a diverse mass of muttering people. one by one as they noticed Garion standing there they stopped talking. a large bell rung through the room. A loud authrative voice rung out from atop the podium next to Garion. "Ladies and Gentlemen of Robertia, We now Begin the trial of Garion Greensleeves. Wizard killer."
