Kite started walking out of the slums. But when he was about to leave the area he heard something important from the locals.
"Brother, believe me! All of them were Level 7 even though they're in the border. I thought I can make quick bucks but damn! All of them are super tough", the man about in his forties started talking.
"Really? I've never gone outside. Once we're outside they will make us pay the gate fee when we go back. You know I don't have that many coins", a man about in his twenties replied after hearing the man beside him talk about outside.
After hearing their conversation Kite stop walking. He couldn't help but curse under his breath. "Shit! I have to pay after going outside if I return back, and worst of all the monsters are all level 7 above?"
Kite pondered. If he can't go outside how can he level up? He doesn't have any money to pay the fee when he returns. He can't just stay in the forest. He doesn't have any idea how to survive inside. Worst of all he forgot that he doesn't have any weapon.
So how can I level up? Kite thought to himself.
They were two ways. First, he can kill animals like rats, chickens, or other animals that can be seen inside the city. They give ExPs albeit it was few in quantity. The second is the worst. Even though it gives a ton of ExP. He has to kill a human being.
Kite knew that days will come when he has to kill a living human. But he was scared to do it. He watches many movies and others that depict killing and although he's not disturbed, killing for real is another story.
Should I really kill a human? Kite shivered when he thought about this idea. He can only slay a lot of animals to increase his level to at least 8 or 9.
He decided to kill animals at midnight. The sun was about to show up. He spends a lot of time recovering and sorting out the memories he gained lately. Since he doesn't have any way to go he decided to gather intel.
He turned back and started walking to the middle of the slums. There are a lot of people there and he can gather as much as intel he could. The problem was...
He was famished.
He was searching for food in the night when he was stab and now it was morning. He doesn't have any food in him so he could not eat anything. He could steal foods here but the people here are well prepared. Thieves are common here. People here experience a lot of tribulations and danger. And adapting are humans' best arsenal. So stealing is hard to accomplish. But to gain food he has no other option but to eat garbage.
Kite started tearing up. He was transmigrated without warning and worst of all he was forced in such dire straits. Back on Earth, he lives a comfy life in his home. He has a lot of friends and his family was well-off. But now he doesn't have any friends nor any family. He was forced to live by himself in this unknown world.

He finally arrived at the slum center. He wipes out his tears and snot and flashed a determined looked. Since he was transmigrated here he must continue and find a way back to Earth. Dying is worst than suffering.
There are a lot of stalls and people here. The similar things they all had are their ragged clothes. Guards commonly patrol the area and all of them were Level 20 and above.
|Slum Guards
Level 20|
|Slum Guards
Level 28|
|Slum Head Guard
Level 35|
The one in front was the Head Guard. They were buff beyond normal, like bodybuilders. If the guards in the slum were this strong, what about outside? How about the soldiers? The mayor himself?
What Kite notice in the area was that the guards here all had arrogant looks in their faces. To the people in the slums were like insects. They can kill them with a thought. While the residents here were both terrified and relieved. Kite was puzzled by their expression but the answer came right away.
"Catch that thief!", a fat man angrily shouted. The guards turn to the man's direction and look where he was looking.
There they saw a slim teenager running with a lot of apples in his hands.
"Fool", the head guard can't help but shake his head. They were all guards at a high level. Did he think he can outrun all of them?
The teenager was wearing a black hood, but after sprinting like that her hood was swayed by the wind revealing her features. She was surprisingly a pretty girl. She had a terrified look on her face. But she continued running away from here.
Kite couldn't help but use inspect on her. Inspect was not an ability but rather one of the functions of the system.
| Girl???
Level 4|
"Wow she's level 4", Kite was surprised. She was the same age as him yet she had a higher level. The people here are only level 2 like him and the highest was a level 12 vendor he saw selling weapons.
The head guard was also surprised after seeing the features of the girl and after that, a lascivious look on his face appeared.
"What a fine-looking lady" the head guard laugh. He pointed to a man randomly. "You, get that girl for me."
"Affirmative". Then that guard vanished.
Kite was shocked. He was so fast. The guard only leave shadows of his images and head to the direction of the girl.
Coincidentally the girl was heading to his direction so is the guard after her. When the girl turned around he saw the guard running towards her and started tearing up. But when she looks in front once more he bumps into Kite.
Even though the girl was 2 levels higher the difference was not that big. Kite was thrown for 2 meters and laid there with a painful expression. The girl stumbled in the ground but she wasn't hurt at all. Just as she was about to stand up, the guard appeared in front of her.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'll never do it again. Please let me go. My siblings had never eaten for days. I was forced to steal food." the girl pleaded for mercy. Normally when thieve and bandits were caught they will be executed immediately.

"Fine, we'll not kill you. Follow me" the guard laugh while looking at the girl. His boss sure is lucky to have this girl tonight.
The girl shivered she already knows her faith. She cursed herself for being this pretty. Normally being beautiful is something you can be proud of. But here in the slums, you'll only attract danger with this amount of beauty. That's why she always covered her face using a hood.
"I'll follow you but please let me feed my siblings first." the girl continued.
The guard look at her then thought of something. He suddenly asked the girl. "How many are your siblings?"
"2" the girl replied. "One is my twin sister and one is my little brother."
The guard laughs out loud. "Sure is the boss' lucky day. Imagine having beautiful twins serving you"
The girl was terrified. It was not that she was naive to answer the guard but rather she was pressured to answer since her fate was already sealed. No ordinary girl at her aged will be casual when you knew you were about to be defiled.
"Please no. I'll serve you. Just leave them alone." the girl kneels in front of the guard. Only resulting in a look of disdain from him.
He didn't answer the girls pleading and directly captured her. He didn't need to ask the girl where her sister is. Here in this world, there are a lot of ways they can use to know her location.
He tied the girl with a rope and carried her. The girl looks at Kite and she cursed at him. "I wish you die painfully. My siblings will die because of you fucker. Your whole family is shit for raising you!" She couldn't maintain her rationality. She was about to get raped so is her sister. And her brother will either die of starvation or killed. No one can be still calm under this situation.
Kite was hurt after hearing her. This was the first time he saw someone being threatened to get raped in public. So this is the reason while the citizens are both terrified and relieve. He couldn't help but also tear up once more. This has never happened in his life. He wants to save the girl but what could he do? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. With a meager level of two, he was the best definition of cannon fodder.
The guard notice Kite and smiled. "Boy, here are 20 coppers for your help, even though I can reach him myself. Hahaha," He laughed, threw the coins in Kite's direction, and return to his platoon location. He didn't need Kite's help, but why did he give Kite 20 copper coins? First, it was because of guards, like him, 20 coppers are nothing. They receive 10 silver each day which is equivalent to 1000 coppers, 20 is nothing at all. And lastly for vanity. Giving money to someone causes him to feel slightly prideful.
Kite looks at his feet with grief. These coins were the symbol of Kite's killing somebody although not by his hands. Even though the guard could chase her, still he was one of the reasons why she was caught. He stared at the coins for a while then pick it up. Causing him to be thrown with a look of jealousy and greed.
To commoners like them, 20 coppers are a lot. You can feed yourself for a week with that amount of money.
Of course, Kite notice the stares and knew what they are thinking. He decided to buy a weapon and also food before leaving. He needs to have something that will protect him to avoid being killed again.
He went to the guy with a level of 12 he saw before and check his shop. He was the only vendor with weapons as goods. When he looks at it, Kite couldn't help but feel bewildered. There are a lot of weapons in different sizes and forms. He looks at a long sword and asks the vendor how much is it.
"That's 18 coppers" the vendor respectfully answered Kite. He saw the guard throwing money at him. 20 coppers were a lot. And even though he said 18 copper the real price of the sword was only 12 coppers.
"Can I take a look at it?"
"Sure thing sir" the vendor hand out the sword.
The sword weighed around 1.5 kilograms. Kite swing it countless times till he was sweating so hard. His level was only 2 and his strength is not that high, his stamina is also quickly depleted.
He checked the stats of the sword to verify if it's authentic. He couldn't just blindly believe this vendor
|Long Sword(Common)
Level: 1-5
Strength +5
Durability: 20/20
A sword crafted by an ordinary blacksmith with an ordinary talent. Made from steel and give meager strength boost|
Kite was satisfied and was just about to give the money when he realized something.
He did not use to buying and bargaining since he has a lot of money on Earth but here he has a limited amount of coins. Plus he has novel experiences. He read a lot of novels and knew that vendors often trick their customers. Kite was not an idiot.
"I hate to admit it but it's too pricey. Guess I'll just buy food then" Kite gave the sword back to its owner and turned around.
The vendor smile froze. He thought he can easily trick this brat but he was mistaken.
"Ok if it's pricey how about 15 copper coins", the vendor called out
Kite continued walking not even turning around.
The vendor grit his teeth and finally gave his original price. "Ok, this is my limit how about 12 coppers". He sounded hoarse and defeated.
Hearing his voice Kite could tell that he must have given his last price or must be pretending. But Kite couldn't risk it. He turned around and gave 12 coins to the vendor. The vendor was resultant to give the sword but gave in the end.
"Thank you!" Kite flash him a smile.
The vendor was surprised by Kite's appearance. Even though his face was covered in dirt it couldn't hide his handsome face.
Luckily Kite got transmigrated into a body with the same face as his.
