《Soldiers of Light》Chapter 4 – The Aftermath
Advertisement
Ask yourself the following question: How would you define evil?
I imagine you'd cite a comprehensive list comprising: Merciless dictators, infamous serial killers or possibly even corrupt governments and organisations, however is anything, (or indeed anyone) inherently evil? Did those seemingly evil personalities begin their lives as soulless reincarnations of a Luciferian devil? Humans are born from light; whatever faith, spiritual or intellectual understanding you align yourself towards, "Light" remains an eternally existent entity, slowly diminishing within the venomous and unrelenting darkness. Darkness births within the light, however the light will never truly be extinguished, inevitably returning to maintain balance in this infinitely wondrous universe within which we reside.
Perhaps this is why I remain ever hesitant, unable to castigate those abundantly dark individuals in spite of hasty outcries telling me otherwise. My beliefs never overstep the boundaries into altruism, however a belief in morality and the potential for good to overcome evil can't be wrong. In similar fashion to Oskar Schindler's noble quest, the dangers remain ever-present and yet for now my resolve remains unwavering. However, every human has a breaking point, as a great man once said:
"Either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain."
Therefore, the question remains: How much more can I possibly endure before finally falling head-first over the edge??

"Miss Marcien-san, your timing has been almost a tenth of a second slower than usual. I believe this session would prove more beneficial at a later date."
Sienna Marcien's pent up frustration was released with one final exasperated cry, her right ankle connecting firmly with the bottom of the large red boxing bag held by her trainer Komugi. Regardless of how much power or weight she threw behind her punches or kicks; the bag remained permanently immovable, as if being held steadfast by plates forged of reinforced diamond.

"Komugi, I see you maintain your stubbornness in refusing to refer to me on a first name basis. Your uncompromising dedication towards your Japanese heritage remains truly remarkable…. Also please forgive my unusual lack of effort…. I'm still... Somewhat in disbelief."
"Perfectly understandable Miss Marcien-san. The steam room has been prepared for your immediate use; I shall now humbly proceed to take my leave." Absolute efficiency, never wasting even a single Joule of energy for a menial day-to-day occurrence such as frivolous small talk. Komugi Itawabi was Japanese ex secret service, hired to personally hone the fighting abilities of the elite warriors within the SoL. Bowing his head in typically polite fashion, Komugi silently exited the 12 ft by 12 ft matted sparring-room, providing the Portuguese beauty some solitary privacy in order to recover.
Dressed in a pulsating skin-tight black vest and matching shorts; Sienna glanced down towards the 2 tiny puddles of sweat collecting in extremely unfeminine fashion directly below her tape-strapped hands. As is habit amongst soldiers requiring momentary thinking time; Sienna's eyes glossed over whilst involuntarily clenching and unclenching her fist, before proceeding to rip the tape off her hands and wipe any remaining sweat onto the side of her vest.
"Ami….. If only… I was there… Maybe… Things could have been different." Whispering under her breath; Sienna's words lacked conviction, tainted by feelings of despondency and regret. Wishes to reverse the flow of time, stem from self-destructive feelings of helplessness, inevitably culminating in a never-ending cycle of negativity. However, being a veteran within the SoL meant acting as a role model for the new recruits. Having joined the SoL as an eager yet reckless youth at the sprightly age of 24; 6 years down the line and her refusal to publicly display emotion highlighted not only her resolute strength of character but furthermore, the astonishing rate of development in her maturity, fondly admired by both superiors and juniors alike.

With a small reminiscent shake of her head and an extremely weary sigh; Sienna trundled into the women's changing room, carefully stripping off her clothes and undergarments before scrutinising the bruising she'd come to expect from a typically intense Komugi training session. Content with the acceptable levels of damage, (whilst also stealing a few customary glances towards her famously pert behind), Sienna proceeded to wrap the cosy lavender-scented towel around her naturally tanned skin, paying careful attention to cover anything which could potentially have her labelled as an exhibitionist.
The recently-built, state of the art WFA facility was situated deep within the heart of Tokyo, Japan; on account of being co-funded by numerous governments around the world, its resources were virtually limitless. Therefore, it's only fitting that in-house facilities, (in particular for members of the cherished SoL) would be the utmost premium. The gym, sparring mats, swimming pool, tennis courts and boxing ring were available for either gender. However, each gender-specific changing room contained multiple showers, a jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, whilst physiotherapists and massage therapists were available around the clock. Personal entertainment facilities were also readily available comprising: A cinema, bar, skating rink, arcade room and karaoke room. Finally, nutritional provisions were comparative to 5-star Michelin quality; world-renowned chefs working 24 hours a day to provide irresistible palates, with careful consideration towards dietary and nutrient requirements.
Slight detour in narrative notwithstanding; Sienna wrapped her fingers firmly around the large brushed-metal handle of the steam-room door before proceeding to open the door, immediately finding herself enveloped in a thick plume of steam forcing a hasty aversion of her gaze.
"You're letting all the steam out, hurry inside and close the door."
Being caught unaware twice in the space of roughly 30 seconds was generally unheard of for the fastidiously alert veteran; Komugi's constant reminders towards maintaining a professional and emotional balance began feeling increasingly important. Subsequently the origin of the emotionless voice ordering Sienna to close the door was never in doubt. The harshness of tone, outright refusal to address Sienna by name and (most importantly), the overarching arrogance, could only be attributed to a single, (slightly intolerable) female. Her inherent talents and polished techniques were undeniable, her ruthless efficiency second only to the hardened warrior, Komugi Itawabi.
Unquestionably the most powerful remaining member within the SoL, (after Felicity's less than glamorous departure): The self-proclaimed Flame Princess, Rea Kazuki.

The General Core {The Sphere}
The life cycle in the Sphere is on the brink of collapse because one of its elements, the Dungeons, have been exploited too much by the mortals. The group who created the Sphere already tried and failed with several modifications, because the original computer-like dungeon cores are too inflexible to handle changing approaches. So they try another type of solution – taking souls from other worlds to try to find a solution before the Sphere Cycle breaks down completely. The General was one of the best soldiers of his world, rising from the ranks of a private through Officer School to the highest command with honors. But when his world faced a zombie apocalypse, even that was not enough and he had to make the ultimate sacrifice. Now he is asked for a repeat performance of planning and controlling a dungeon and its spawns in a world that he knows nothing about… But what is the Sphere really? What is that [Xenotic conversion] he has to go through to even enter the Sphere? Something is really strange and he will have to find out what is going on to get to his promised rewards – whatever they will be. Being a soul in a dungeon core means that the General has better chances of finding hints to the truth about the sphere – a knowledge that would help him survive. And no, the sphere is NOT a virtual reality – the key to its secrets is the place where it was physically constructed (Author’s hint). This is a dungeon core story - but there are quite a number of things that I will do differently than common to those stories. 1) I will describe the floors when they are explored, NOT when they are build. Yes, that will mean it will take longer to get to those parts - but I think describing floors both when they are build and when they are explored destroys quite a lot of chances for suspense when adventurers enter the dungeon. After all, if you as the reader already know where the traps are, then you can't really be surprised when the surfacers encounter them. 2) How the world works (and how not) is an integral part of the story, so it will be explained I'm a world-builder first and the Sphere is NOT a regular world (as hinted in the synopsis above). Things will work differently than in your 08/15 default dungeon core stories - as the General and Gunny have already learned in the second arc (and more of that is already scheduled for the next weeks (July/Aug 2019) when the Sky Arrows continue to explore and evaluate that strange dungeon) If you don't like these premises, then I'm sure you'll find a lot of other Dungeon Core stories more to your liking. But if you are interested in more than "Dungeon builds another room and corridor in medieval earth" and are not afraid of a longer and slower story, then go on. I have two more stories in the Sphere, although they both have lower priority than this one: Shaleen the Wanderer (Adventurer, NSFW) (currently on hold after some chapters) Info's on the Sphere (System Docu and Short Stories) (irregular updates when needed) Current Status reports have been moved to a new discord server: https://discord.gg/EaHkXCfm9y

Manufacturing Magic (LitRPG)
Ten million active players. One game master. Infinite Worlds is the most popular VRMMORPG on the market. Its maps are so vast, developer Hard Rock Data utilizes a network of highly advanced artificial intelligence to control it. But it's not without problems. That’s why game masters like Jeff Driscoll have jobs. The downside? He’s not allowed to play the game. Something about conflicts of interest and favoritism. His very boring and tedious job is to help players deal with the occasional bug that slips through the cracks and ensure they enjoy their time playing enough to give a five-star rating. It’s a gig that pays the bills. However, when the A.I.s unexpectedly issue a rogue patch, the game becomes a buggy mess, and Jeff's role radically changes. He finds himself as the only game master around, dealing with more problems than he can handle. It’s up to Jeff to return Infinite Worlds to normalcy...but will the A.I.s let him?

Owning a cute little pet
Ryan, a young student at a university who enjoys collecting various rare animals, accepts a rather unusual offer. He has to house a young woman called Shiina White at his flat and take care of her daily needs. In exchange he receives a substential salery from the young female artist who just doesn't seem to be able to live on her own. Luckly for him Shiina is not only beautiful and naive, but also hates wearing clothes at home. As you might have guessed from this synopsis this story is inspired by the anime sakurasou no pet na kanojo, to be exact I took the main herione Shiina Mashiro as the draft for the female main character of this novel Shiina White (Yep it is a wordplay as Shiro means white in Japanese, I also switched the forname with the lastname). That said this is no fanfiction, but rather my take on the whole story and a far more lewd take as well!

Briars and Thorns
Millenia ago, humanity faced a catastrophe. Some devastating, catastrophic event that even to this day leaves its impact on humankind and the Earth. That’s not where our story takes place though, instead we look to space, where humans have taken up residence among the stars. Living in huge industrial space stations, life is a bore. Dull daily routines are broken only by extravagant fashion, music, and other means of self expression. Also, of course, the lifeblood of the stations- games. Four months ago, humanity was contacted by the first ever known alien life forms. These aliens, calling themselves the Erta offered their designs and schematics for their True Virtual Reality (TVR) console, as well as access to their game in exchange for peace. And humanity, excited at the opportunity to achieve one of their life long dreams (that is, to experience True VR), graciously took them up on their offer. Now, after scientists have finally confirmed the console to be safe for humans, the game is to finally be released to the public. This comes to the joy of most of the population, but a small portion of them can't help but be upset. As thousands of the researchers meant to be developing virtual reality, are fired overnight. Meet Brian Reed, one of these newly unemployed workers. Now, join Brian as he explores the very game that was the death of his job. And watch as he learns that the game is not quite what it seems.

Monster Apocalypse
When the news started reporting strange changes of mankind, though the information was obviously controlled, it was enough to create commotion around the world. At first, it was only the subtle change of hair color, though it was strange, everyone accepted such a small change, some embraced it, some dyed their hair into normal colors. Afterwards, videos of people doing impossible feats surfaced onto the media, men lifting cars, women crushing walls, children jumping up to the second story of buildings easily. Then, humans started growing beast like appendages and features, horns and tails sprouted, though abnormally small, it was growing, regardless of the age or gender of the affected human. Despite the countless funds supplied into researching why, or how, did these features come to be, it proved to be fruitless. As those features grew, it became more defined, wings capable of carrying humans into the skies appeared, tails controlled by humans emotions sprouted to a certain length, and stopped growing. And on the last day, known as the beginning of the Monster Apocalypse, mankind grew wild.
