6:03am - Westside LA apartments

A smaall girl was currently bursting into the room of a an incredibly tired teenager.

“Come on Victor, you have to hurry up or I’ll miss practice.” The girl yelled into the ear of the sleeping teenager.

Victor lifted up his head to see his sister staring at him expectedly, in her black and yellow cheerleading uniform. Beth looked a lot like their mother, she had the same light brown skin with the same dark curly brown hair. Although she was small for fifteen , she had a very big mouth to make up for it.

“Get out of my room!” He yelled groggily at her.

Yet she still lingered in the door way. He knew she wasn’t going to leave until he got out of bed. So he tossed the covers off himself and got up.

As soon as he was out of bed, Beth ran out the door in fear of retaltion.

When she leaves, Victor looks at the clock on the table beside his bed tosee it read 6:05am. He quickly runs out of the room and heads down the hall to Beth’s room.

In one quick motion he slams open the door and looks towards his sister.

“Why did you wake me up so early?!” He screamed.

Beth was sitting on the bed innocently doing her makeup in the a small mirror.

“You know I don’t have to be at school until 8:00.” He yells.

Begrudgingly Beth lifts her eyes from the mirrior and raisies her eyebrow provokingly.

“Yeah but I have to be at practice at seven.” She responds.

“Who said I was taking you to practice?”

“Mom did, she said she couldn’t do it today because of what’s happening outside.” She says smugly.

“What do you mean? What’s happening outside?” Victor asks looking towards the window.

“I don’t know, but there’s something bad on the news and mom won’t let me see.”

Victor lets out a tired groan and leaves his annoying sister to try and find his Mom.

“So are you taking me to practice?” Beth calls out after him, but recieves no reply.

When Victor reaches the kitchen the smell of fresh pancakes being made reaches his nose. Instantly Victor face darkens and he knows something is off.

My mom only cooks before work for two reasons, if she got a raise at the hospital or if something was bothering her.

In the kitchen he sees plates of food fit for a family of more then just the three of them. His mom was over by the small tv they had near the stove, with a fearful expression on her face. On the TV there was an old bald man that was pointing at a huge telescope and talking about stuff he didn’t really understand.

Victor came up behind his mom and asked “What’s going on?”

She nearly jumped three feet in the air.

“I told you to stop sneaking up on me.” She said still holding her chest like she expected me to do it again.

“I didn’t sneak, I just walked.”

"Don't be a smartass."

She tires to lightly smacks him with the spatula in her hand he moves before she could get a chance.

“So what’s wrong? Beth said something was up.” Victor asks.

As soon as he asked her face changed from annoyed to frighten again.

“Mom? What’s wrong?!” He asked for the third time.

“On the tv their say….saying…” she trails off, looking at the TV.

“Their saying the city might be…” she trails off again.

“Might be what mom?” Victor asks, worry creeping into his voice.

“Their saying that the city might be destroyed today by a huge meteor shower that is heading this way.” She blurted out.

As she said that Victor couldn’t help but laugh a little at his mom. But she glared at him, making him quickly stop.

“Ah… sorry, but that’s what’s got you so riled up. They always come up with a crazy story about how the city or world is going to end every year.” He says.

“Yeah but this is different, they have a scientists on TV talking about it, look.”

She points over to the TV where the bald man was repeating what he was talking about earlier.

“For those who are just tuning in, we are here with Dr. Ryan Manecke, an award winning astrologist, and he’s telling us about what he discovered last night in his lab.”

The news reporter moves the mic back over to the Scientist.

“Thank you Rachael, last night while I was monitoring the movements of a few stars, I noticed serveral very large objects speeding through the sky. From their movements and trajectory I calculated that they are most likely very large meteors and that they are headed right for the city of Los Angeles.” Dr .Ryan said.

“Thank you doctor, also we the people of channel 5 news strongly recommend citizens evacuate the city immediately.”

Yeah right. Victor thought.

“Mom come on, I can’t believe your buying this. It’s obviously some kind of a stunt. I mean, you know they do this almost every year, making up new disasters and terrors just to create some hype.” I said.

“Well…maybe your right. Go get ready to take Beth to practice and you get to school.” she said with a little doubt still in her face.

As I lift the kitchen I started to think what would happen if that doctor was right and the whole city was about to be destroyed.
