《It's Hard to be a Hero in a Parallel World》1.11 A Way Home (Bonus)

Part 1

My name is Hero-kun.

I’ve been stuck in Light World for over a week now.

It’s cool to live as an adventurer in a world that is so similar to fantasy games that I love so much.

The only problem is that the game this world seemed to be modeled after is Light World™.

That game was way too hard to beat and is even harder to live in.

I don’t know how long I can keep it up.

In the short time I’ve been here, I’ve had to deal with, strong monsters, an angry heroine, and a terrifying demon.

I doubt I can live a comfortable life with all the dangers in this world and for that reason, I’ve been searching for a way to return home.

The only lead I have is the TELEPORT spell.

Apparently I was sent here by some goddess using this spell.

It made sense that If I came here by TELEPORT, then I could also leave by TELEPORT.

TELEPORT however, was a rare skill.

I recall that only a few individuals in Light World™ knew the spell.

One of those individuals happened to be the main hero of that game, AKA me.

(Although I did quit that job and hand over the responsibility to someone else.)

I looked at my adventurer’s card and opened up my skill tree.

Even though I was no longer the hero, the hero’s skills were still there.

Unfortunately, all of these skills, including TELEPORT were locked by some mysterious force so I was not able to learn them.

Luckily, thanks to all of my experience playing Light World™, I have thought of another way home that didn’t rely on the TELEPORT skill.

That’s why I’m here at the item shop today.

Potions, tools, and other items from Light World™, filled barrels and shelves around me.

I was looking for one item in particular.

The shopkeep came out of the back room and plopped said item onto the counter.

“Here it is kid. One Wyvern Wing. My last one in stock.”

In Light World, Wyvern Wings were fast travel items.

You would use them to warp to any town you had previously visited.

Although they had no real use in battle, they were basically TELEPORT, except in item form.

I paid for the item and started inspecting every part of it closely.

It was a little over a foot long with white feathers, just like in the Light World™.

“Hmm.”

The shopkeep looked at me confused.

“Excuse me sir. Is something wrong?”

“Yeah… how do I use this thing?”

In Light World, you would normally open up the menu and select the item in your bag, but right now there’s no bag or options.

I’m actually holding the item.

The shopkeep spoke.

“While your holding the wing just say out loud, WARP followed by the destination you want to go to. Make sure not to use it inside though.”

“Alright thanks.”

With the wing in hand, I walked out of the store.

Alright let’s do this!

If this worked, I would warp back to my home in Generic Country.

I raised the wing above my head and yelled out loud.

“WARP GENERIC COUNTRY!”

Nothing happened.

I looked at the wing again.

Maybe I have to be more specific.

I tried again.

“WARP GENERIC TOWN!”

“Hmm. How about this? WARP HOME?”

The wing disappeared and a green aura enveloped me.

Woah!

It’s really working.

I’m actually going home.

I felt a bit sentimental.

Haha.

I should give this world a nice send off.

I smiled.

“So long Light World. Although my time here was short, there were some enjoyable- AAAAH!”

I shot up into the air and zoomed through the sky.

Part 2

“What kind of adventurers take a job like this! Next time I see you, I’ll kick your ass!”

“Just like you, we’re short on cash and this seemed like an easy quest- OUCH! Don’t kick me you idiot!

Adventurer-chan, was yelling at her fellow adventurer, Warrior-kun, from the guild.

Adventurer-chan was holding on to the door of her worn down house while Warrior-kun was pulling at her legs.

Behind them, were Warrior-kun’s partner, Mage-chan, and Adventurer-chan’s landlady who had hired the pair to help evict the girl who was constantly late on her rent.

The landlady started yelling!

“Give it up Adventurer-chan! I told you what would happen if you didn’t have the rent by today!”

“Just give me some more time! I’ll have the money I swear!”

The landlady and Mage-chan started yelling at Warrior-kun.

“What’s taking so long! Get her out of there already!”

“Yeah Warrior-kun! Hurry it up so we can go eat! I’m starving!”

“Why don’t you help out you idiot! She’s freaking strong!”

By working together, Warrior-kun and Mage-chan were finally able to pull Adventurer-chan away from the door.

They held her back as the landlady walked up to the front door of the house.

In her hand was a magic seal that when placed on the door would create a barrier around the house to deny entry.

The landlady reached the entrance of the house.

As she was about to put the seal on the door, everyone heard a loud noise.

They couldn’t pinpoint its location but it was getting closer and closer.

“aaaAAAH!”

“Huh?” x4

“OOF!” x4

Something came flying through the sky and crash landed onto all three of the adventurers.

It was Hero-kun.

Part 3

“Ouch. That was not what I expected.”

I looked around.

Next to me on the ground were Adventurer-chan, Warrior-kun, and Mage-chan.

Looks like the home the Wyvern Wing sent me to was Adventurer-chan’s.

Oh well.

I looked at Adventurer-chan’s landlady in front of me.

Wait a second.

What’s that in her hands.

I felt around in my pocket.

That’s my coin pouch!

It must have flew out of my pocket when I crashed.

The landlady looked at and started walking towards me.

“Kid I’ve seen you around here every so often. Did you come to pay off Adventurer-chan’s rent?”

“No that’s actually-mmph”

Adventurer-chan shoved me and covered my mouth.

She turned to the landlady.

“Of course. I told you I just needed a bit more time. The money was on its way this whole time!”

What!

That’s my money you bitch!

The landlady spoke once again.

“Alright, you cut it close but I’ll accept this. However next time, you better be on time!”

“Of course! You can count on me!”

“... Uh-huh. I’ll be going then.”

I pushed Adventurer-chan off of me and yelled at the landlady.

“Wait you old hag! That’s my-”

“What did you say punk!”

“Eep!”

I hid behind Adventurer-chan as the landlady gave me a terrifying look.

She was scarier than a demon.

“Nothing!”

“That’s what I thought.”

The landlady turned to Warrior-kun and Mage-chan who were still on the floor.

She took out a quest flyer and ripped it in half as she spoke to the two of them.

“Unfortunately your services are no longer needed.”

QUEST FAILED

REWARD: 0 GOLD

“Huh!” x2

“Take care.”

The landlady walked away and disappeared under the horizon.

I’ll have to add her to my list of monsters that I should avoid.

After getting a lecture about why they shouldn’t take quests to evict their friends, (The lecture included getting blasted by a WATER SPELL.), Warrior-kun and Mage-chan left.

“Can you believe those two Hero-kun. I’m such a good senpai and they repay me like that! I can’t believe it- aaaah!”

“You idiot! Do you know how hard it was to save all of that up! Because of our stupid debt, the guild takes most of our reward money after every quest!”

“I didn’t hab a choice! I’m sowwy! Just Stawp pulling my cheeks!”

“Ugh.”

I let go of Adventurer-chan’s face.

We sat down at her doorstep.

She was rubbing her red cheeks as she talked to me.

“So what the hell were you doing using a Wyvern Wing? Don’t tell me you were planning to go home and leave me to deal with all of our debt all alone.”

“Hey! It’s your fault we’re in so much debt you idiot! Besides, the wing didn’t work out!”

“That’s weird. Where did you say you were from again?”

“Generic Country. It is insanely far away (In another world actually) so maybe the item just wasn’t powerful enough to take me there.”

“Well, I’ve never heard about that happening before, but don’t worry. I’ll keep looking after you until you can get home. But when you do get home, the first thing you better do is come right back to clear our debt!”

“Yeah yeah yeah!”

Adventurer-Chan stood up and extended her hand to me.

I looked up at her.

“What are you doing?”

“Come on. Since you gave up all your money for me, the least I can do is treat you to a nice meal.”

Oh!

This is surprising.

I took Adventurer-chan’s hand and she picked me up.

“Of course, I don’t have any money either, so we’re going to have to go complete a quest first.”

“...”

“Oh come on. I’ll let you pick an easy one so you don’t have to worry about fighting any strong monsters.”

“Alright fine! But get ready I plan to work up quite an appetite!”

“Me too! Let’s go!”

(Later that day, Adventurer-Chan accidentally flooded a veggie field with a poorly aimed WATER spell. The party was forced to pay for the damages and their debt had increased once again.)
