《fall into darkness》Chapter 75: The Hunter's Demon Mark

At this moment, Du Dian in the basement of the ancient castle had just finished washing, put on the linen fiber clothes that had been prepared, and sat on the bed chatting with Macon and others.
It didn't take long for the door to the basement outside to be pushed open, and a group of people came in. They were four light guards, escorting two doctors in white coats and masks, carrying their respective medical boxes.
"Everyone is ready to be checked, take off your clothes!" shouted one of the guards.
Scott, who has many experiences, didn't even put on his clothes after washing, and sat on the bed naturally. When Du Di'an, Macon and others saw this, they could only take off their clothes one by one helplessly. Fortunately, these two doctors were both men, otherwise they would still feel shy and embarrassed to be naked in front of the opposite sex at such a young age.
"Look at the side."
"Well, turn around."
Two doctors came out of the iron cage and watched one by one.
Du Di'an and others cooperated with their orders and turned their whole bodies to let them check it again.
"What kind of injury is this?" the doctor asked, pointing to the scar on the back of Macon's hand.
Macon said quickly: "It's a scratch. It's been rubbed when moving things. It's been a long time."
The doctor nodded slightly, looked at the scar carefully, and recorded it in the notebook in his hand: "The wound has been scarred, and the time of injury is estimated to be more than four hours. There is no redness and swelling at the wound, and it is initially judged that there is no infection."
After writing, move on to the next one.
"Hey!" Suddenly, another doctor screamed, staring at the slightly raised blood vessel-like red marks on Du Dian's chest, stunned, and leaned a few minutes to look in front of Tie Zhu, only to find that it was not his own illusion, he couldn't help but Surprised: "Magic marks?"
When the other doctor heard his words, he was stunned for a moment.
Du Dian heard a move in his heart, magic marks? they know this?
Scott, who was in the cage next to him, was also stunned, and said, "Magic marks? Dean has magic marks?"
Du Dian didn't expect that he also knew this thing, but looking at his appearance, he didn't seem to recognize the red marks on his chest. Most of them just heard about the "magic marks" from other paths, but never saw it with his own eyes. .

I saw the two doctors staring at Du Di'an like a ghost, and said, "How is it possible, you, aren't you a scavenger, how can a demon be born?"
Du Dian was also puzzled and said, "What is a magic mark?"
Scott noticed that the direction the doctor was looking at was Du Dian's chest, and he looked at it immediately, his face full of novelty, and when he heard Du Dian's question, he immediately said: "Dian, this "magic mark" is the exclusive power of Lord Hunter, and it is also The fundamental reason why hunters are far stronger than our scavengers is that it is said that there are various amazing abilities hidden in the magic marks. Some hunters can see through everything, and some hunters can corrode metals... and these abilities, just From the magic mark! "
He looked at Du Dian's chest with a red scar that looked like a bulge of blood vessels, and said: "I didn't expect this to look like a magic mark, Dean, I didn't expect you to have a magic mark, no wonder the power is so strong, it turns out that you are already hunting. It's over!!"
Having said that, looking at Du Dian's eyes full of envy, but not jealous, because he knows that if he wants to give birth to a magic mark, it is related to his own body, and not everyone can give birth to a magic mark.
Du Dian was a little stunned.
The place in the chest where the blood-colored worm lives, is the magic mark?
Is there a hunter for everyone?
So, isn't he already a real hunter? !
The two doctors looked at Du Dian deeply, and one of them said: "Although I don't know how you, who was rated as a "scavenger", gave birth to the magic marks, but it should be related to your body, we can test for you again once the body? "
Du Di'an had long been worried about the hidden dangers that the blood-colored worms would bring to the body, and immediately agreed, saying, "Trouble the two of you."
"No trouble, if the test is as we expected, you will be an adult hunter in the future, so you don't have to be polite to us." The attitudes of the two doctors became modest, and smiles appeared on their faces.
Du Dian was stunned for a moment, and immediately realized the gap between hunters and scavengers, and at the same time he was quietly relieved. Since other hunters have demon marks, he is not special, and there should be no hidden dangers.
The two doctors asked Du Dian to stretch out his arm from the gap between the iron pillars to help him check. One of the doctors pulled out a tiny glass meter from the medical kit, which was the radiometer.

Du Di'an immediately understood that they wanted to test the radiation in their bodies, and at the same time guessed that most of the magic marks were related to the radiation content in a person's body. After all, this is also the biggest difference between hunters and scavengers!
Soon, the doctor extracted the blood of Du Di'an's finger and measured it with a radiometer.
Now Du Dian's vision is completely different from the original, and he suddenly saw the red line at the bottom of the radiometer, slowly squirming, crawling upward for a few minutes, and then sliding down softly. This time, he could see it very clearly. The red line was clearly a hair-like bug!
Could it be that there is such a worm in every radiometer?
Du Dian came to a realization, no wonder that this world with backward technology can measure the radiation value of the human body, it turned out to be through this mysterious little bug. Most of these bugs were the same as the "Bright Bug" he had seen in the Hunter's Castle, and they were all bugs that had a special sensitivity to radiation.
"This, this is so low!" The two doctors were shocked when they saw the reaction on the radiometer. They glanced at each other and realized that with such a low radiation content, it is no wonder that magic marks were born!
It's just that the two of them are strange, how can such a talent be assigned to the scavengers, is it the mistake of the consortium?
They don't dare to think too much, after all, this is a matter of the top, and it has nothing to do with them, they just need to do their duty.
"The test is done, we will submit this." One of the doctors said politely to Du Dian: "You have the physique of a hunter. I believe that the consortium will soon promote you to the hunter, congratulations to you."
When Du Dian heard their honorific titles, he was a little unaccustomed to it, but thinking that this is a world with distinct classes, there is no need to be pretentious, he immediately accepted it calmly, and nodded: "Thank you two."
The two doctors smiled politely, and then checked Macon and Scott, as well as the three consortium scavengers and the new boy, recorded the situation, and left the basement under the escort of the four light guards.
"I didn't expect, Dean, you became a hunter unknowingly!" After the doctor and the guards left, Scott looked at Du Dian with amazement, and his eyes revealed surprise and a bit of flattery. This is simply a godsend It is a good opportunity to be able to get in touch with the hunters at close range. If he can get shelter or a little help, his life will be much better in the future. Even as long as Du Di'an says a word, the proportion of his scavenging in the consortium will be divided. Can improve a lot!
This is the influence of the hunter!
Macon, Zach, and Sham looked at Du Dian in amazement, envy and happy for him.
"We will have a backer in the future, haha..." Macon laughed sullenly.
Zach tsk tut: "I didn't expect Dean to become a hunter without knowing it. I suspect that I am dreaming."
"Isn't it, I didn't react." Sham said with emotion: "I knew Dean's seed status for a long time. As long as he behaves well, he will have a chance to become a hunter sooner or later. I didn't expect it to happen now, tsk tsk, Still so young, I don't know what rewards the consortium will give Dean."
All three were a little excited.
Du Di'an looked at them happily, smiled slightly, and reached out to touch the magic mark on his chest. It seems that the hunter was going to ambush the black giant beast, mostly for this blood-colored worm. However, the hunter already has demon marks, why do they still need this? Could it be said that even if there is a magic mark, this can also enhance the power, or enhance the ability brought by the magic mark?
Speaking of abilities, he thought of his super sense of smell.
This should be his magic mark ability.
Du Dian thought of Scott's previous words and said to him: "Do you know what the hunter's magic marks are, and what abilities do they generally have? Will this thing pose any threat to me?"
Scott scratched his head, and said with some embarrassment: "I only know a little bit of fur, but I heard that there are all kinds of abilities. As for whether it will threaten you, I don't know, but it should be No, all hunters have this, but I have never seen anyone have an accident... Other specifics, when you are promoted to hunters by the consortium, someone should tell you."
Du Dian thought about it too, and immediately stopped thinking too much.

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.
