《blood tax》Chapter 56 The Unexpected Demon Hunter

Immediately following Brownie's words, ten goblins also crawled out of the grass. Two of them were in leather armour with swords and hatchets, while others were haphazardly carrying crude bows and daggers.
Both before and now, Griffith can easily eliminate them.
"Good evening, Mr. Gothra," Griffith walked up slowly and said, looking at Brownie, who could kill with a single move. "One minute, give me a reason not to kill you."
Each of the goblins glared fiercely, staring at the apprentice knight.
"I know how to get out of this forest, please come with me," Gothra smiled. "Anything else you want to know?"
"How did you know?" Griffith tapped Brownie's throat with a sharp wooden gun. "What about the other goblins?"
"Before planning tonight's action, the goblins have already conducted a detailed exploration of the edge of the Whispering Forest," Gothra calmly walked past the apprentice knight, "My plan is not to Capturing or killing Homon Watts students has no interest in exchanging hostages for wealth or status."
"Well," Griffith retracted the wooden gun and followed behind it at a distance from Gothra, "what's that?"
Gothra waved his hand and let the goblins who were protecting him spread out around him, as if he was chatting with a friend, he said casually: "This decaying and corrupt forest contains many secret treasures, far better than Hormon's. Watts' Secret.
"But there are dangerous mutant creatures all over the place, and it is impossible to explore with goblins as assistants.
"For this reason, I thought of using your strength. Of course, it is impossible to ask you directly, I will be treated as a lunatic by Homonwarts.
"However, after introducing human warriors and mages into the forest through the previous method, coupled with the blood shed by the battle, mutant creatures in a large area nearby will be attracted, and they will kill each other for blood food. Then came the great professors, and I think you must have seen their terrifying thunderbolts and karmic fires. After this repeated cleaning, I was able to explore in relative safety."
"Even if the monsters in this forest have been weakened, it is impossible to explore with your power. Any mutant creature will kill you," Griffith said.
"Indeed. I have a squad of escorts, and these are the only ones left. The other companions were all killed not long ago," Gothra stopped, turned to look at the tall apprentice knight, "do Make a deal, Mr. Apprentice Knight, I think you have sufficient reason and a sound brain. If you can protect me for a while, I will tell you how to get out."

Griffith stared into Brownie's big eyes: "How can I make sure you're not lying to me? I can wring your guard's neck and ask you where to go."
"Don't do this. It's not too far away, and there's nothing to lose by taking a look." Gothra pointed to a hill in front of him. "The lost secret is there. Even without my guidance, you have to climb it. Go up that mountain and look for the way."
Griffith thought for a while, and felt that he really had no other choice, so he followed Brownie to the mountain not far away.
They hadn't gone far before a strong rancid smell appeared in the air.
Before Griffith could understand what it was, a small figure staggered in the darkness ahead.
"This is?" Gothra narrowed his eyes and tried to look forward.
A dead goblin appeared in the moonlight. Its body was wrinkled and twisted, half the size of a normal goblin, like a shriveled orange.
There was no usual greed, cruelty, and cunning in its eyes, but a cloud of turbidity instead.
"This is one of the guards I killed,"Gothra said to Griffith," there was some kind of monster hidden in the darkness that made them what they are. It's already a walking corpse. "
Griffith looked at Gothra, and then at the shriveled goblin walking corpse, without any intention of making a move.
Without Gothra's order, the guards jumped out two of the surrounding goblins and rushed towards them. They held daggers and stabbed at the walking corpse from left to right.
Just as the dagger stabbed the walking corpse, the monster suddenly became manic. It opened its thin arms and embraced a rushing goblin like a welcome old friend.
"Jie Jie Jie!"
The captured goblin immediately screamed. Their originally thin bodies became as dry as walking corpses, turning into a pile of skeletons in the blink of an eye.
Griffith and Gosla, who saw this scene, took a step back in unison. Evil magical energy roamed the air, making every living creature present shudder.
"What? Aren't you two distorted and chaotic monsters like this walking corpse? Since you are the same kind, what's there to be afraid of?" A voice like dry ice sounded from the darkness. Six humans in black robes slowly emerged from the darkness.
Professor Lordes!
Griffey immediately saw the face of the visitor. Why is the head of winter camping here, shouldn't he be supporting the others? Is everyone out of danger? Great, finally safe.

"Ouch!" The remaining goblins shouted in unison, rushing towards the humans appearing from all directions.
"Stop!" Gothra and Lordes shouted at the same time. But the professor added after that: "Don't kill them, I'm useful."
A black-robed man following Professor Lordus stood out from the crowd. He lifted his cloak like lightning, and a few snake-like shadows rushed towards the attacking goblins, knocking them down to the ground in the blink of an eye. .
Centipede-like shadows crawled along the goblins' hands and feet, binding them firmly. There seemed to be tiny threads spreading out from the shadow that easily pierced through the skin of the goblins, wriggling in their flesh.
A terrifying blood vessel immediately bulged near the flesh where the thread was pierced. After struggling for a while, the goblins gave up their resistance one by one, stood up like puppets under the control of the shadow, and looked at Griffith and Gothra silently.
"Witcher, you're here so fast, have you been waiting nearby?" Gosla sighed weakly, and took off his hat to Professor Lordus and saluted, "I didn't expect it to be a big trouble for you."
The high-level wizard of Homon Watts waved his wand contemptuously, and a black magic pattern immediately attached to Gothra: "Lead the way ahead, lowly creature, take me to the treasury where your master hides secrets."
Gothra turned around obediently, without any resistance, and headed towards the pitch-black mountain.
"Professor," Griffith, who had a chill down his spine, looked at the icy Professor Lordes, "thank you for your help, please tell me how to leave this forest, I need to get back to Miss Larmor as soon as possible."
Lordes ignored the apprentice knight, but nodded to the witcher beside him: "Watch him, I suspect that he has been contaminated by mutant creatures. During my exploration of the ruins, he must stay by my side at all times."
The five witchers who followed Lordus hesitated for a while, and the man who had just controlled the goblins raised his hand to signal to the other two:
"Pella, Hank, check the apprentice knight's equipment."
Two young witchers, a man and a woman, were immediately ordered to surround them. The girl looked Griffith up and down, and the male witcher named Hank beside her confiscated all his weapons and handed them over to their leader: "Captain Karius, these are all his weapons."
"Short spear cut from wood, dagger," the witcher captain Karius identified the weapons in his hands one by one, and suddenly exclaimed, "Corrupted holy artifact? Where did it come from?"
Professor Lordes swept Griffith's blade-like gaze, his eyes seemed to say--"Give me an explanation."
"This is the trophy I got in the battle to protect Miss Larmor, from a fallen vampire baron," Griffith said steadily, "Miss Larmor can prove it to me."
"This weapon is solidified with special effects of shadow attributes. is a very powerful weapon, far superior to enchanted equipment," Karius repeatedly checked Feather Fencing, "Corruption imprisoned it. Original ability. If it can be purified, it will be a rare weapon. Pella, examine him carefully with the forensic eye."
After saying this, Demon Hunter Karius put the Feather Fence around his waist without any intention of returning it to Griffith.
The girl named Pera closed her eyes immediately, and when she opened it again, a blue light appeared in her left eye.
Several witchers present made a gesture of vigilance together, and once Griffith was abnormal, they would take immediate action. Hank, Pera, and LaVine make up a combination of shield-wielding vanguard, charioteer, and long-range marksman, while Karius and Hakan's gear seems to favor spellcasters over melee combat.
This is a well-organized squad of witchers that can handle many complex situations nimbly. They were following Lordes, and they must have a mission.
To be sure, this mission was not a search and rescue of Griffith.
Griffith felt the blue light penetrated himself, and even his soul was re-examining. He couldn't help but worry about the retention of the blood race Beyonder characteristics he had just acquired in his body, and whether Minos, the bone ring, would be detected.
"No abnormality, Captain," Pera's strange eyes didn't find anything, "His spirit is a little confused, like he just advanced from Sequence 9 to Sequence 8."
The majestic Lordus swings his cloak without looking at the people around him, and walks quickly towards the dark mountain alone.
"Let's go, Hank, and return the dagger to him. This corrupted weapon is in my custody," Karius hurriedly followed Lordes' footsteps. "We must hurry."

My Newest, and at the same time, Oldest novel. This is a Rewrite of my very first novel that I begun when I was just starting out. It follows the story of Mark Floyd, a broken man who once tried to do what he thought was right... only to be stabbed in the back and thrown away. Now, pulled into a conflict that spans time and space, Mark has a choice to make; Stand up once more, even if it means facing an unknowable future, or let the Embers of his heart die and sink back into darkness. ----------------------------------- “For gold is tried in the fire, and acceptable men in the furnace of adversity”. Once part of a Special Ops team in the US Army, Mark Floyd thought he had seen the worst that Humanity had to offer. That was until his final mission, one that would leave him a broken and shattered man, betrayed by the Country he served, and abandoned by society as a whole. His dreams filled with nightmares of the ones he failed to protect, mind and memories clouded by booze and more, Mark finds himself stumbling through life without purpose or desire. Life isn't done with Mark yet, however. For as long as even a single ember remains in a persons heart, here is still yet hope for the flames of Passion and Hope to be Rekindled. When the dying embers of Mark's heart catches the eyes of a Being far beyond his understanding, Mark finds himself thrown into a situation not even his years of training could prepare him for. Will this new chance be Mark's hope at both Redemption and Recompense? Or will it simply be the final nail in the coffin for a man already dead to the World? [This is a rework of my very first story. The general story will remain the same, however a few details have been tweaked, the chapters have be Edited better and some chapters have been broken down into smaller chunks for better flow and consistency. The biggest change will be to the System itself; It will be a lot less "Game-like", meaning no stats, levels or similar aspect, though skills will still be present in the form of "Programs". Instead, It'll focus more on the Sigil's nature as super-computers and how they change the world around them. This should make for a much more "natural" and less info-dumpy system.
