《Flaming Light》Chapter 18: Incoming Threat

Serena displayed excellent and surprising prowess unleashing a great level of power, as she defeated Maka Dusa. Meanwhile, unknown to those at Glory Academy, a great threat ensues from the southern border of the Central Plains as Axion and Jergens invade the kingdom but are currently on halt having encountered the General of the ninth division and his vice, Anya.
“This is a tale of humans, beasts, and beings from other worlds. A tale of a girl who wants to surpass the strongest; no this is their tale. A tale of hope. A tale of Flaming Light.”
Axion stands before the general, keeping a straight face, as the wind sweeps across the battlefield. Quickly, some of the soldiers advance, charging towards Axion with swords in their hands.
Suddenly, a black streak flashes as Axion appears right in front of the general to cut him but the general swiftly draws one of his swords and blocks the attack while the heads of the soldiers that charged forward are rolling in the air with blood spewing from them. The bodies of the soldiers fall to the ground as Axion and the general clash.
“Leave him to me!!!” The general yells. The other soldiers behind him quickly move a great distance backwards.
“I must say, you’re quite a skilled one,” the general says. He takes hold of the handle of his other sword and swiftly draws it, launching a slash assault against Axion. Axion makes a quick side step, evading the attack but the general follows up as he spins and uses his sword to attack Axion’s back. However, Axion without turning back, blocks the attack his sword. The general turns around the handle of his other sword and tries to stab Axion from the front but he quickly kicks the side of the sword using it to push himself backwards.
Meanwhile, Anya is standing in front of Jergens ready to battle however, they both get distracted, watching the battle between Axion and the general.
Anya is perplexed at Axion and how he is able to keep up with the general. “He looks so young yet he’s already at this level,” she mutters.
“Surprising isn’t it? A young chap like him can keep with a General,” Jergens comments.
Back at the battle, the general and Axion are both moving at high speed, clashing swords with powerful shockwaves being discharged from each clash. They soon come to a pause, standing some meters between them.

“So young and vibrant, you remind me of a certain friend in our young days too. With your sword skills, it would have been nice to have you in Central Plains, however, for your crimes, your punishment is death,” the general states as he advances towards Axion and begins rotating.
A large pillar of wind swirling high into the sky is generated from the rotation. The general steps out and is now behind the pillar. He raises one of his swords vertically, pointing it at the sky and says,
“Wind Blade Skill: Pillar of the Twisting Tempest.”
He swings his sword downwards, sending the pillar against Axion. Axion glares at the incoming attack without saying a word, he exhales and swings one of his short swords vertically. A mighty force is unleashed which instantly splits the general’s wind pillar, and the two separate halves cause a considerable amount of destruction on both sides of Axion nonetheless Axion stands unfazed.
This shocks Anya, the other soldiers and the general himself.
“He stopped the general’s blade skill attack?! One of the high level ones at that!” Anya states. “This brat, who in the world is he that he’s capable of going toe to toe against a general.”
Jergens smiles and says to himself, “Intriguing, I never thought he’d be this strong. With just a swing of his sword, he disposed of that technique. Now I see why now Jac de Jac requested for him as per the orders of Neutrogena. “
He turns to Anya and suggests, “Hey, why don’t we just put a pause on our fight and put our stakes on our comrades. We’ll watch the fight and see who wins.”
Anya scowls at Jergens and replies, “I also sense you’re a very dangerous man yourself. If you think I’d just stand here and let you do as you wish, then your folly must know no bounds.”
She directs both her hands towards Jergens as if holding something. In a horizontal position, a sword materializes in them with one holding the sheath and the other at the hilt.
“As the vice general of the ninth division, Anya Hearth, I’ll end you before you pose a greater threat in the future.
Blade Awakening: Fire up, Sanbo-Kojin.” (Sanbo-Kojin - Japanese god of fire, the hearth and the kitchen).

Anya’s sword becomes enshrouded in flames of fire and in her eyes, a circle of fire can be seen around her pupil. She quickly unsheathes the sword while it is in the horizontal position and the fire dissipates but the sword now has a new shape. It is curved outwards at the bottom right and top left, having some new features around the hilt.
Holding the sword at a horizontal position to her right, she unleashes an assault.
“Sanbo-Kojin’s Grand fireball!!!”
Fire begins emerging from the tip of her sword till a fireball as high as thirty five feet (35 ft) is formed. She quickly swings her sword from right to left, sending the huge fireball against Jergens.
As the attack approaches Jergens, he smiles and says, “Interesting.”
Simultaneously, at the battle between Axion and the general, the general is still surprised at how Axion dispersed of his technique.
“I see you’re no ordinary fighter. You seem to have learned the Way of the Will, no wonder you give off similar vibes to Kensora. But it’s not just the Way of the Will, you also have that assassin countenance, tell me kid, who exactly are you?” The general says.
“I have no obligation to indulge you, this is a battle however I’ll just hint you since you’ll die anyway, you can remember me as the black assassin,” Axion replies with his inexpressive face.
The general glares at Axion and responds, “Black Assassin huh? I see. That explains a lot. In that case, I, Furyoku Hashiba, General of the Ninth Division of The Central Plains’ Military Force, declares you a level seven threat and will now dispose of you.”
He takes his fighting stance, crossing his hands against each other with each of them holding a sword.
“Blade Awakening —,”
Suddenly, the entire area of the battle and its surroundings begin to rumble violently as the ground beneath Furyoku, the general, starts to crack with small pieces of rock breaking off, floating and some, crumbling to pieces. The soldiers who stepped back quite a distance, are also feeling the tremors generated from Furyoku. The atmospheric pressure also increases immensely and a mighty gust sweeps across as some soldiers struggle to breathe, forcing them to back away even further. Anya and Jergens can also feel the mighty pressure from General Furyoku.
“The general is serious, that brat is dead now,” Anya says to Jergens as they keep fighting.
“Hmm? Let’s see what happens then. Even I, I’m curious,” Jergens replies.
Back to general Furyoku, he completes his statement saying,
“Blow up, Shi Kaze-no-Senshi.” (Japanese - Warrior of the four winds).
A blue gigantic ethereal being of about twenty feet materializes with just the upper body emanating from the ground upwards which enshrouds Furyoku. It is clad in samurai armor, holding a sword in each hand with two other swords strapped to its back; the edges of the being are glowing as are the eyes also. The being is translucent making Furyoku somewhat visible as he stands inside it.
Axion exhales and says, “So this is the power of a general huh? Guess I should also get serious.”
He sheaths the two short swords strapped to his waist and draws out the sword strapped to his back which is black in color.
At once, a powerful pressure similar to that caused by Furyoku, begins erupting across the battlefield covering a wider range. Though the soldiers retreated further backwards, the pressure still gets to them inducing severe headaches on them, making some to instantly fall unconscious.
Furyoku is a bit surprised at this. “He can use the Way of the Will to such extent already? And if I’m not mistaken, that is the black blade which has a similar strong force to that of Kensora’s white blade. This kid may be young but no doubt, he’s the real deal,” he thinks to himself.
“Nevertheless,” He says out loud and starts charging towards Axion with his ethereal being at high speed.
Axion points the black sword at Furyoku, holding it in a manner like one playing snooker (pool), with one hand holding the hilt and the other hand having its fingers at the tip of the blade.
Meanwhile, at the Battle Royale tournament happening in Glory Academy, Dubnet is currently facing off against Teru as Dayve is also going up against Tesla at the same time while Serena is subtly watching to see which battle she will join.

The Dreamside Road
Five years after the world fell into chaos, a treasure of artifacts is up for grabs. The relics of the Dreamside Road offer a power that could help rebuild or annihilate what remains. Orson Gregory is an adventurer for hire, but hunts this treasure for answers, not glory. Enoa Cloud’s late aunt helped hide the Dreamside Road, but following in her aunt’s supernatural tradition offers her as much peril as power. Together, Orson and Enoa battle a magic-obsessed militia, clash with a host of rivals, and face constant adventure on their journey to find the Dreamside Road. *Updates Monday and Friday The Dreamside Road is now on TopWebFiction! Vote so people know this exists. _____________________________________ NOTE: The Progression tag applies specifically to Enoa. Also, fair warning, that element doesn't enter the story until she begins her studies. Content: Main characters range in age from teenagers to people in their thirties and older, but it will not contain gratuitous violence or explicit sexual content. It also won’t shy away from implication, anything to make this story and its world feel more real. Characters will freely allude to potentially triggering topics, including living with a disability, facing terminal illness, coping with trauma, surviving societal destabilization, and the consequences of bigotry. At its most intense, the Dreamside Road is a hard PG-13. Worldbuilding: This is not a story with a lot of early exposition scenes, conveniently explaining ‘magic systems’ and political dynamics. Readers will learn, progressively, as the characters do. This story/world has a ‘magic system’, or rather, a set of systems, but the effort to quantify and understand the truth of the setting plays a role in the backstory, as well as in some character motivations. In that same vein, not every character has a firm grasp on the nature of their world, and not every piece of dialog from every character should be taken as entirely truthful Worldbuilding. Also, this isn't the softest Sci-fi. There are at least some basic explanations given for various elements, but Royal Road does not give me a spectrum to choose from. Given the choice between hard and soft, let's just say The Dreamside Road won't be cited in any college Physics papers. Setting and Theme: The Dreamside Road walks the line between fantasy and science fiction and deals with finding one’s place in a changing world. Many of the characters in this story are United States natives and the story begins in the United States, my homeland. However, knowledge or interest in this country is not necessary to understand the story, especially as it progresses. Also, as this is a novel that deals with societal collapse and while that damage may be widespread, in story, I don’t want to overstep and critique the culture of others’ unless I have particular knowledge in a given area. Ultimately, the Dreamside Road is American in the same way Harry Potter is English, fantasies that do not have a full secondary world, but with enough original elements to fully diverge the setting from our the real world.
