《The Boss System》Sorting Things Out PT-1

The next morning he was woken up by a knock on the door. He slowly opened his eyes and yawned as he got up from the floor. Since Eric hadn't slept in a bed for a long time his body didn't feel comfortable sleeping on it.
When he opened the door he found a man holding a bucket of water in each hand. Jason felt strange; it was as if the man had x-ray eyes that could see through him. It made him feel very uncomfortable.
"Umm thanks for the bucket of water, I take it that you are the owner?"
The man smiled and nodded, "That's right, and you are the kid who rented the room for a week and was wondering if you could bring your two friends here. My son seems to have forgotten to ask for your name and we don't have you fully registered."
Jason nodded realizing that he had freaked the kid with his face, "My name is Jason, nice to meet you."
The man nodded and lowered one of the buckets, "Since you are young I will allow you to bring the other two but that's it. As for the extra payment you offered, it's not necessary. It's not like we include the meal or anything. Well, good luck on your first day as an adventurer make sure that you are careful."
He nodded and brought the bucket in, after wiping himself he put on his new clothes and he put on his armor and the Iklwa Sword. He said his thanks to Ron and walked out of the Inn looking both ways as he tried making his decision.
In the end, he decided that he was going to go into the slums and find the two kids. On his first roll, he was able to get something that radically made his life easier and his priority should be farming points. He ate the rest of his bread and bought 5 meat skewers that a man who had a food stand, this time they were from horned rabbits.
After being in the slums for a year he knew a big chunk of it by memory, and he knew where he would be able to find them.
As he walked towards their den he noticed that people were looking at him with interest, he didn't blame them. Just yesterday he was in the slums about to die and in tatters, yet today he appeared with new clothes, armor, and a weapon.

He knew that he could attract trouble but that's why he had bought the Urumi Sword. At the moment his malnourished body didn't have too much strength. The 5 odd blades were an excellent defense against other people even if they outnumbered him. If he needed to he didn't mind pulling it out for surprise attacks.
Fortunately, even if he was getting some greedy looks there wasn't anyone who tried anything and he arrived at his destination without much of a problem. He found them in their alley laying down and wrapped in blankets that were full of holes.
When one is hungry they don't have much energy and that's why these two and lots of people in the slums were still sleeping. Earlier he had wondered if he could intimate subjects into submission and he figured that these two would be the perfect test subjects.
He took his Iklwa Sword from its sheath and ran it across the mudbricks of one of the buildings creating the noise that he wanted. The two kids quickly woke up and looked at him in both terror and confusion.
"Er….Eric wh….at are you doing here? What do you want to do?"
Their terror-filled eyes stayed glued to the blade of the sword and Jason began swinging it around causing them to shift their eyes following the blade. Jason had always enjoyed these moments in mangas but the reason he was enjoying it so much was because it was something Eric had secretly wished for.
Jason laughed and looked at the two shaking kids mockingly, "I'm just here to kill you for what you did the other day."
The two boys swallowed their saliva and began shaking even more, "Wai….. Wait don't kill us, we…. We promise not to do it again."
"Yeah, we will do whatever you want us to do, if you want you can live here and we will get out of your way and never bother you again."
He nodded and pretended to think about it as he playfully swung his sword around. 'How exactly does the system work? What do I need to make these two my subjects?'
"If you want to live then you have to follow my orders. From now on I will be…. your boss. Are you two okay with that?"

Tristan quickly stopped shaking and stood up his face full of anger but as soon as he saw Jason raise his sword most of that anger was replaced with fright. Both he and Jack looked at each other and after a few seconds, they nodded.
"Fine, we will do what you tell us to do."
The moment both of them said that a green diamond-shaped crystal appeared on top of them. He was surprised by this and he opened his status screen.

"Oh, that loyalty tab is a new one." he clicked on it and found that it was just a list that involved the people who had become his subjects.
[Tristian Makva, Age: 14, Loyalty: 0]
[Jack Riverfall, Age: 13, Loyalty: 0]
'Damn with those loyalty values who the hell wants enemies. Still, it was a little too easy, wasn't it? I mean I like that I don't have to do much but all they had to say is that they were going to listen to me and they became subjects? Sadly it seems I only get 1 subject point for each person, it'll take a while before I can get another roll. I would try to get more subjects but at the moment I don't think my money would be enough.'
Since he was checking his status board he had created an awkward silence, "Umm now that you guys will work for me then I'll take care of you, here eat this.
He pretended to get the skewers that he had bought out of his armor and he handed it to them. The two friends took them but looked at each other in confusion.
Jason grabbed the one he had bought for himself and sat down and began to eat, "What are you waiting for? Just eat, I didn't poison them or anything. If I wanted you dead I would have simply killed you and not waste any money or food"
The two kids looked at him and then at the skewers and they didn't wait for a second invitation and started eating it like crazy men. When they finished Jason stood up and ordered them to pull apart the small "house" they had made out of sticks and worn-out blankets.
Tristan and Jack did it slowly, he could tell that they were suffering after all this makeshift shelter had provided them a sense of home. God knew how long it took them to collect all the blankets.
When the shelter was dissembled he led them out of the slums and began walking towards the Inn.
"Listen, I know that I scared you a bit back there, but it was necessary because it would save us lots of time. And to be honest I didn't see you agreeing to let me be your boss otherwise. I got lucky and managed to find a way to get us out of the slums and to live a better life but I need people I can trust. As long as we all work together then I'm sure that we will be able to accomplish great things together."
He turned around and found the two of the kids thinking about what he had just said.
"You two have worked together for as long as I've known you and as far as I know you haven't cheated each other in any way. I'm jealous of that bond and I'd like you to treat me the same way. That's why I decided to work together with you two."
'And the fact that I would feel less guilty bullying you since you've done it countless times.'
"From this moment on I'll consider all the evil things you two did as necessary to survive but if you do anything to betray me or bring me trouble I'll cut you up in a million pieces. That means no more bullying, okay! Where I'm going to take you there is a small kid and you better treat him nicely because his father is a monster!"

Checkpoint
as an anomaly sweeps the world, many gain strange abilities. as for Mal, the power makes it so they cannot die, or more accurately, they get sent back in time to the last place they were safe at. A power that seems like a blessing until you’re crushed under rubble, drowned in sewage, shot, stabbed, all while having the royalties to feel all the pain from such fates. And to put the icing on the cake, a strange message appeared before everyone’s eyes stating that unless someone breaks down the gate within 17 years, everyone will die”. now Mal needs to find a way to “break down the gate” (whatever the hell that means) or they will be forced to die and revive, only to die again for the rest of time. Which would suck, probably. /————————————————— this is technically a time loop novel. the MC is chaotic neutral with a worryingly lack of care about how their actions affect people. i want to interact with my readers so give critique and suggestions. I will sometimes host polls for the personality for new characters, story decisions, and the ability to cancel annoying characters, besides Mal, if they get enough complaints. I am also impatient and will end decision polls when I want to write more. If no one votes, I choose, so don’t let that happen. if you’re want world building check out hitchhikers guide to checkpoint (an encyclopedia of what I made up with lots more explanation)
