《The Boss System》First Day PT-1

The next morning Jason was woken up by the rays of the sunrise, he climbed down and headed out of the slums. After thinking about it for most of the night he had made a plan, 'First thing is first, I have to eat something otherwise I won't be able to do anything. Before that however I have to exchange the gold coin, it's not normal to pay for food with a golden coin. Thanks to that I have to think of something else to use the gold coin and break it up. I thought about buying some clothes first but I also need to bathe and a place to sleep.'
'Renting a room isn't too expensive but that got me thinking, I've heard that adventures get discounts in Inns. That not only would mean I get to save money but I can also make a living. Also, I would avoid having to give a gold coin to the inn. The last thing I need is the owner's bad luck to set fire to the damn place or something. I thought about getting the coin exchanged in the adventurers guild but on second thought I'm not so sure about flaunting a golden coin around those adventurers so I could buy some gear before that and break up the gold coins that way.'
.
"So I have to go to a weapon shop to get equipment and split some gold coins, eat something, go to the adventures guild, rent a room at an inn, and finally buy some clothes. With that, I will have the basics of what I need to survive."
Once Jason was finally out of the slums he tried asking around for directions to a weapon shop but the people quickly said that they didn't know even before he finished asking the questions. Some even went far enough to completely ignore him and walk around him.
He sighed and kept on trying, he figured that the reasons people avoided him was because of his clothes, his smell, and lastly his scarred face. 'Can't blame them, I can remember how disgusting my face looks. If I look for adventurers and ask them then they will be more likely to answer me, I should have probably been looking for them in the first place, they are the ones who need weapon shops after all.'
After looking around for a few minutes he finally found a group of adventures that looked reliable. The group was made out of 2 young men and 3 women, they had pretty basic leather armor so they weren't big shots meaning that they shouldn't mind him taking some of their time.
He walked to them and smiled, "Sorry to bother you but could you tell me if there's a weapons shop close by?"
The group of adventurers stopped walking and turned to look at Jason, they hesitated for a bit but a young man was quick to regain his composure "Hi, yeah there's a few around this area, but we get our equipment at Trey's Weapon shop. It's near the... um never mind I'll just take you. Guys wait for me at the gate I'll be there in a few minutes."

The group nodded and continued walking while the young adventurer guided Jason to the weapons shop.
"Oh, I just noticed that I didn't introduce myself, I'm Raymond, and you?"
"My name is Jason, thank you for helping me Raymond it means a lot."
The young adventurer laughed and shook his head, "Don't mention it, this White Fang City is gigantic, it's very hard to find what you are looking for sometimes. Hey, I hope that you don't mind me asking but why are you looking for a weapon shop?"
'Why the hell do you care? Wanna know if I have money on me?'
"I want to be a blacksmith, if I learn how to make weapons then I'll be able to earn money so that I can live better."
Raymond nodded and sighed, "I'm sorry to tell you but Trey isn't a blacksmith, he buys weapons off blacksmiths."
"That's fine too, in fact, it's even better. It's likely that I'll be able to get in contact with multiple blacksmiths at once."
Raymond laughed and patted Jason's shoulder, "I like your spirit kid, that's Trey's Weapon Shop right there. Take care alright?"
Jason nodded and said his farewell, when he entered the shop, he was overwhelmed by the number of weapons and armor that were on display.
"Where the hell do I start? For it being such a small store it sure is packed."
After looking for a while and not being able to decide, he went to the reception desk and got the attention of a large man who seemed to be reading a book, "Excuse me sir, I don't mean to bother your reading but I need some help with choosing some equipment."
Trey put the book down and smiled, "oh, equipment for a young fella like you, sure kiddo what do you need help with."
Jason went on to explain that he needed some light, cheap, but effective armor. As for a weapon, he would like a short sword since it was what he had learned to use.
"As an adventurer, I don't really think I'm going to be taking any subjugation jobs since I'm still just a kid. If anything all I will do are jobs like herb gathering or other labor-oriented jobs I've seen adventurers take. Having a weapon is just in case I run into some monster while I'm collecting herbs. Having a bow and killing them from far away sounds great but the arrows will get expensive and I would have to practice."
"Well kid based on your requirements and what you plan on using it for leather armor is your choice to go. Leather armor is the cheapest of all the armors, therefore it's pretty much the worst. It's better than nothing though, it's good at slightly minimizing the damage of blunt attacks. As for your size I only have these three, choose the full set of any of these four and I'll give you a slight discount."

"Really? How much is the discount?"
The man laughed and lifted two fingers, "2 silvers. I've actually had these armors since I opened the shop. I wanted to have a size for everyone but I never thought about the fact that people your size usually never come here. These three are what has been left here gathering dust for years. It's just taking up space that I could use for other armors. They are all made out of hide from Blood horned bulls, that's what gives them their pitch-black color. That will be 28 silvers for any of these four sets so pick the one you like.?"
Jason thought about it and after a few seconds he nodded and picked the armor that covered the most. '28 silver is equal to 280 copper, I'm sure that the armor will pay itself off soon. It's also a little bigger so I'll have it for a good while before I outgrow it.'
After he had chosen his armor the man took him to the area where the short swords were but suddenly he had to go back to the register because someone else had entered. Jason looked through the swords and as he played around with a sword labeled Cinquedea Sword but something across the room caught his eye.
At the corner of the wall, there was a pile of odd weapons and there was an interesting one that he had seen once back on earth. The weapon had a sword handle but what made it odd was that it had 5 separate paper-like blades that acted more like whips than actual sword blades. He ran his nail across the blades and was surprised by how sharp the blades were. He looked at the tag and discovered that the weapon was called an Urumi Sword.
"This is a pretty awesome and scary-looking sword haha. Hey, that's also pretty cool."
When he picked up the Urumi Sword he revealed a weapon that seemed to be a hybrid between a sword and spear. The sides were sharp so even though it resembled a short spear it seemed like it could also function as a sword. He looked at the tag and found out that this type of sword was called an Iklwa sword.
"Damn, I like both of these weapons, lets see how much the Urumi Sword is….. Ooh why is it so cheap? Only 8 silvers? ..... The Iklwa sword is 15, which means that in total it should be 51 silver spent including the armor."
He took the weapons and went to the register where his armor was laid down. Trey seemed to be helping the other customer find what he needed so Jason began to put on the armor so that he wouldn't have to carry it. He had a storage but he didn't want to catch unwanted attention, the only way that people learned magic was by using grimoires and the space magic ones were very expensive and limited by the nobles that made and sold them. Naturally, the magic skills that were written in each grimoire were inferior to the ones the nobles had.
It wasn't long before Trey came back to the register, when he saw that Jason had picked up the Urumi Sword he shook his head. "Kid you really shouldn't use this weapon. The last guy who bought this one was an experienced sword user and he ended up hurting himself. I bought it from a blacksmith apprentice since it seemed interesting. News about the adventurer hurting himself spread and well those weapons were never bought again. If you want to buy it to show around then go ahead, just don't try using it alright?.... You really have an odd choice in weapons, this Iklwa sword was created by a friend of mine who was messing around. I was actually just going to put it in the short spear section. Here let me get the sheath for you, make sure that you come back and let me know how good it is if you get an opportunity to use it alright?"
He nodded and pretended to dig around in his pockets while he mentally thought about getting 7 gold coins. "Umm do you think that you could exchange an extra gold coin for silvers?"
"Oh my, I was doubting that you would be able to pay and here you come carrying gold as if it were nothing haha."
Jason pretended to laugh nervously, "If you didn't think I was going to be able to pay how come you were so nice to me?"
"When you've been in this business you learn that there are always strange characters who look like they are broke but they have their savings. You're the first kid though haha. Well here are your 19 silvers here 1....5….8…...13…..16...18…..19. Have a nice day and come back again."
'Try to use those gold coins as fast as you can.'
Jason smiled, thanked the man, and left after asking for recommendations for cheap clothing stores and Inns. The man gave him the names of a few that were nearby.
While he was on his way to the guild he was attracted by the smell of cooking meat. He remembered that he hadn't eaten in a while and now that he had changed the money nothing could stop him from eating. He made a quick stop and bought two meat skewers made from giant boar meat for 4 copper. After having Eric's memories he nearly cried about the fact that he was eating fresh meat and not something from the garbage.

Cycles of Ruin
Civilizations rise and fall. Kith build them up and monsters, led by powerful dungeon keepers, bring them to ruin. For three thousand years the cycle has been maintained by the Guild of Chaos and its endless hordes of minions who—in absence of their long lost creators—have taken it upon themselves to keep the realms of the universe in balance. The Guild has grown efficient at this task, but some among its ranks have begun to ponder the utility of a universe that has been robbed of the very possibility of change. Basil von Doom is one such dungeon keeper working for the Guild, leading an army of loyal minions from one conquest to the next; burning civilizations and sifting through the ruins in search of forbidden knowledge that the races of kith were never meant to possess. But having spent more than half a century in pursuit of glory and fame—trying to live up to the legacy of his father—Basil has grown indifferent towards his work. Desperate for a worthy challenge, but bound by his duties as a dungeon keeper, he has turned his mind towards uncovering the ultimate fate of the previous master of his house and the secrets that were buried with him. Now the young Master of House Doom must balance his growing interest in pursuing the trail of his father with the responsibilities that come with running a dungeon in service to the Guild of Chaos. To remain in good standing with the Guild, Basil has even accepted the task of mentoring an apprentice dungeon keeper, a young succubus named Elnora. It is at the tail end of her apprenticeship that the story begins; with a civilization poised to fall—its greatest heroes gathering for one last assault on the heart of darkness—and Basil striking up a conversation with his apprentice that will set into motion the unraveling of the universe. ***This is a rewrite and continuation of my story that was first posted on RoyalRoad a few years ago.
