《Hunger for affection》Act II - Palace | Magic

The days of calm and tranquility passed with normally in Rin's life in the palace, but recently there has been a problem with which all the people of the empire have suffered lately and it is the chronic heat of summer.
Every summer it's hot, that is a fact, but even with this permanent fact, the people have never avoided complaining about the heat, regardless of whether you are an emperor or the servants who serve them.
This is demonstrated by the moans of annoyance in the morning that Rin heard when getting up after a difficult and hot night.
"What annoying this heat, and it doesn't help that this is surrounded by buildings."
"Yes, absolutely right, Ahh as I would like, to be back at my house."
"Don't be arrogant, at least you had a house, and not only this but a house at the Sword of Wind school."
"Well, I'm sorry for coming from an important place, not like you, who came from the street."
"You will..."
These small squabbles were normal in Rin's residence, as were reconciliations, normal talks, schemes, betrayals, and for better or worse, these for the most part did not involve her.
Therefore, this conversation, Rin only took as a morning gossip to entertain herself in her silence, to then get up to prepare.
But, influenced by the continuous moans of the heat around her, and the little importance that Rin had to her appearance, she thought of a small solution for her heat, which she implemented that same morning, fed up with the heat.
Thus, with all the determination in the world and with great calm without leaving the room, she grabbed a scissors recently obtained after her first payment, to use it to cut her long hair without much precision, leaving it to the middle of her neck.

But when she finished her work, and after enjoying the new lightness of the head and enjoying a new psychological freshness, she received, as expected, the insults of her roommates, who were present at that time.
"Look how ridiculous, you look like a boy." They laughed at her out loud.
"Yes, yes, it is true, small, and without qualities."
"Beast, what happened? Were you very hot? It wasn't that beasts were stronger than humans, what a joke."
"Incidentally, you're a beast, you're a weakling" They all made fun of and laughed at her.
Rin, before all this, turned a deaf ear, since, at this point, her words were worth nothing, so after throwing away her trash and finishing getting ready, Rin, with a sublime elegance, like every day, she went out the door to go to the laundry, not if before being fired for more laughter and ridicule.
"Look, look, she thinks she's important, but she's a beast."
"Hahaha yes, it's very funny, it's like seeing a boy acting like a lady."
But these impressions did not end here but were repeated by whoever saw her pass by, except for one person, her co-worker Yue, who received her with words of surprise and concern.
"My God, what happened to you, did your roommates do that to you?" She said looking at her with concern and unable to stop looking at her new haircut.
"No, myself," Rin explained, to get to work alongside Yue
"But, but why?" She babbled. "Did you have a revelation or something?"
"No, I was hot," Rin explained, wondering what she meant by revelation.
"Don't play with me, just for that?"
"Yes"
"Oh God, what a waste, you had such beautiful hair, and the worst thing is that you cut it without any aesthetics."

"Doesn't matter," Rin said feeling a little warm because her hair always hated was praised.
"of course it does matter! the hair is a woman's treasure, be it long or short."
"Well," Rin said intending to make her stop complaining.
"Of course it's not right, oh my god, if you had told me you were so hot, I would have used some magic, so you wouldn't have cut it."
“Magic?” Rin asked surprised at this mystical word.
"Oh, oops, it was a secret, well I think it doesn't matter if it's you, it's good that we're far from the rest," Yue confessed, and then continued lowering her voice a bit. "Yes, I can use magic, but look, I not really know if it is good or bad to use it, you know if it is good or bad?.
"I don't know," Rin said thoughtfully.
"Oh, how bad, you see is that I am afraid to ask surrounded by so many enemies, well, well, let me show you, be patient, it is something difficult," Yue said and then, after a while a current of air began to be felt between Rin and Yue, making them feel fresh, and in the case of Rin amazed, since the only magic they had seen was her and her mother's.
"Wow!" Rin was looking at everything trying not to miss anything.
"Yes, it's really great, oh I lost control," Yue said resulting in her loss of concentration and the disintegration of her spell.
"Why, isn't that like waving your hand?" Rin spoke a lot as a result of her interest.
"You're crazy, that saying is only said by super magicians, or those with native magic."
When she said that, Rin understood a little that she didn't know much about magic and that according to her friend she might be the last thing she mentioned.
"Yue, I'm sorry."
"Yeah, it doesn't matter," she said, not giving importance to the subject.
"Good, me too."
"What about, you too?"
"I use magic... and is native," Rin confessed.
"Really, great, show me, show me," Yue said with bright eyes.
"Feel this" Rin said to then take Yue's wrist, to then generate heat through her hand.
"Wow, that's awesome! It's like a portable microwave," Yue said enthusiastically.
“Microwave?” Rin asked for this strange word and also removing the effect of her magic.
"Ehh, well, it's something from my tribe, it's difficult to explain, but it's something that generates heat, but more importantly, tell me, how hot you can do, is it enough to melt metal?"
"I don't know, I hardly use it, I'm hungry."
"Ah, sorry, I didn't know."
"Easy," Rin said smiling at her.
After this, they talked a little more about magic, until they got fed up a bit and decided to talk about other things as they always did until their work was finished, and they had to say goodbye as usual, until the next day.

Blood & Noodles
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] As they always have, humanity hunts the gods roaming the world, craving the supernatural power that flows within their veins. Even a drop is zealously guarded, passed from master to student through the ages. It is with this stolen power that the Blooded - those with divine blood coursing through them - grasp beyond mortality and achieve prestige, power, and greatness. Yet, for every fraction of power gained, thousands perish, slain by the gods' supernatural prowess. But everything is beginning to change. Eight years ago, for the first time in human memory, a god was felled. Part-time chef and full-time nuisance Orvi wants nothing to do with gods. Living in a derelict city, his only concerns are ensuring his adopted family's restaurant is prosperous and how to best beat the neighbourhood boys in a fight. If he's lucky, he might even snag a date with the farmer's daughter at the market. But even though he cares nothing for the gods or their blood, the world won't leave him alone forever. Because to reach godhood, one must first leave their humanity behind. *** The first arc of Blood & Noodles follows the adolescent Orvi as he attempts to navigate his rapidly changing home and - by his own definition - protect his family. The story is told almost entirely in the first-person, from the perspective of a teenager who isn't always the sharpest tool in the shed. There are tragic elements, especially in the current arc. It's character-focused and driven, though the protagonist's shenanigans are backdropped by a world operating independently from him. Orvi's a generally light-hearted character, and though the story veers into darker territory, I also want it to be able to make readers smile. Action sequences, despite the fantastical elements, are meant to be grounded and clearly-conveyed; Orvi is a brawler, not a warrior. I'm trying to write a story that's enjoyable to read and flows nicely, mainly because it's more fun to write. I'm also trying to improve my writing, so any feedback, whether positive or negative, is welcome!
