《Gilgamesh In DxD》Chapter 1

So let me tell you the best thing that ever happened to me.
I died.
Strange, right? Before I even graduated from high school, and funniest of all things, a thunderbolt that had ended my life. I didn't even have a chance to defend myself, I just got hit when I was sleeping, I remember waking up disoriented and with a big headache, and after that I found I was dead.
I can't decide if I'm glad it wasn't a car that killed me... so, considering my usual behavior, dying in a way completely contrary to most reincarnation stories seems perfectly characteristic...
I beg to differ, the moment I finally shuffled my deadly serpent, I found myself alone, walking across green fields with the sun on my face...and no Russell Crowe to be my spirit guide, but it's too bad.
Instead, I shrugged and kept walking, wondering if this was the afterlife…well, it was a little boring, but not horrible or anything.
Or maybe it was just the purgatory I ended up in...
"No, not purgatory. More like Universes waiting room."
I had turned, half-scared for another death...and blinked in surprise at the sight that greeted me.
Three extremely beautiful women, all with curly brown hair and immaculate white dresses…and smiles that suggested they had a Royal Flush after everyone else entered.
"Uhh...hello?"
I think I can be forgiven for not being the most verbose person after dying, something the three women agreed with while they all laughed like I was an ordinary comedian.
"Hello young man and welcome to the start of your new life!"
That got some confused blinks from me.
"... Reincarnation?"
"Hey you did it! This is better than most people..."
"Well, to be totally fair, I'm still not totally convinced that this isn't some kind of psychological hallucination brought on by overdue food and a late night."

They did that laughing laugh again like the protagonist who spoke happily: "Well, don't worry, we're as real as possible! Now let's get down to business! I think you'll be happy to hear that, since way died in a completely random way , his soul was at stake and we were the ones who grabbed her! "
"...Yay?"
"Oh, relax, yeah? Just be glad you didn't end up in Ares or some other idiot domain, THEY like to send people to Warhammer 40K. Ick!"
I vaguely remember a state of complete and utter bewilderment, but the idiot side of my brain, which was somehow understanding what the woman was telling me, replied, "Wait, so it's not technically reincarnation, but putting people into other worlds? i'm not putting myself in something horrible... "
More laughter ensued.
"Don't worry! I- Laima- and my sisters Kārta and Dēkla have decided to send you to the heavenly world of Highschool DxD!"
... By the time I'd just been revived, it hadn't been Attack on Titan or some other fucked-up universe where horrible death was a constant companion. Although it's been awhile since I've read or watched DxD, it's a world of light romance.
As long as you're not an idiot, surviving comfortably wouldn't be too difficult.
... And then the bomb was dropped.
"Hmm...ok, a little bit of technical details before we get down to business. Those 'altering stories' like DxD, Warhammer, Harry Potter etc etc... are static. Your events don't change unless something forces you to them change ... like a person reincarnated from another world. "
They had that card shark smile once more.
"Here's the deal. We send you to DxD with a plethora of gifts and abilities... and in return, you shake things up a bit, upset the status quo and give us something new to watch! Sound good?"

... Suffice it to say that, even though things had been a dream, I wasn't in any particular rush to wake up.
The world of DxD, the land of unbridled sex and power, where someone with a slight problem of social maladjustment could thrive?
Sign me the fuck up!
"Okay, so what are these gifts and abilities we're talking about here?"
Well, for starters, we'll provide the basic necessities so you don't waste our two times. A mansion hidden from the world, teleportion circles and maids, all ready to enter the facility...oh, and a training room. to have a training room! "
... Shit, if this had been a dream, I really didn't want to wake up!
"Then to your wishes?"
I thought about them for a while until I made up my mind.
"First I want a system where I can evolve and acquire the most diverse things"
"Hohoho, a system that a lot of people ask for, very well, what's the second?"
"I want the bloodline and all the powers of the King of Heroes Gilgamesh"
As soon as I said that a big one passed the women's lips.
"Hohoho, a very interesting request, just with that you could put yourself among one of the strongest in the world."
"It's just that I like the character a lot." I say scratching my head.
"So demanding~! We like it! And your final gift before we send you on your way?"
"I want a Longinus Sacred Gear."
"I see. So if you don't mind we'll pick one for you."
I nod my head. After all, they are already giving me this opportunity.
"Okay, if that's right, we'll start the process. You'll be arriving a few years early, so you have time to get used to your powers - and convince yourself that this isn't a dream - and for some other tasks."
I had offered a crooked smile and replied, "Well, if that turns out to be reality...then you have my sincere thanks for it, Miss Goddesses. I foresee fun times ahead!"
The final laugh that marked our first and last meeting together had an extraordinarily perverted tone.
"Oh, before we forget! We've made some... changes to the things we think you'll like. Have fun~!"
I didn't get a chance to ask what that meant before falling back on my way to the best moment in my New Life.

A Virtual Invasion
An invasion from another dimension is shut down by an Empire's traitor and the world has a scant few decades to build the strength to resist a multidimensional Empire. How will the world fair when no one even knows its doom is one barred gate away? Fortunately, the traitor has a plan. Maybe with a bit of luck and planning, he can build a force to defend the world without anyone realizing it. Author's Thoughts: What is litRPG (From wikipedia) - LitRPG, short for Literary Role Playing Game, is a literary genre combining the conventions of MMORPGs with science-fiction fantasy novels.[1] LitRPG is a literary genre where games or game-like challenges form an essential part of the story. A LitRPG work simultaneously narrates the story of characters inside and outside of the game-world. At least some of the characters in a LitRPG novel therefore understand that they are playing a game: they are 'meta-aware'. So, while Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is a fantasy novel, a book about people creating avatars and interacting in a Lord of the Rings MMORPG would be a LitRPG novel. Why do I read them? You know, I am not too sure. I love MMOs. I played them, quit them, joined up and repeated the cycle. They are fun! They are a massive waste of time but so are most games. Do I want to read about someone else playing them? Sort of?The advent of VR and the possibility of VR someday becoming so immersive that you can't tell them from reality sets the imagination on fire. What if this could be life? But most stories fall short. At the end of the day the protagonist hangs up his VR helmet and goes to have dinner with his mom and dad or other family and it becomes meaningless. It's like the story that ends because the main character woke up and nothing you read matters. There have been some books that explore the concept of the intersection of reality and total immersion VR. Enders Game is a classic. There were a few others that escape me but they exist, however, the cross between the game and reality is weak.So what if the game was real? The technology needed for total immersion VR is so advanced that by the time we reach that goal technology should have naturally evolved to include several items. You must have direct neural input. You simply can't have a total immersion (all senses and perfect presence) experience without this basic prerequisite. If you have direct neural access, you can probably do neat things like feed knowledge and skills directly to that person. You can undoubtedly do many horrible things as well. Muscles are controlled by the brain. If you control the brain why would you let the body just sit there and rot? A person that sits unmoving for 24 hours a day will have their body whither away just like a coma patient. However, if you control the brain you could control the muscles. On a basic level, this would be isometric impulses, working muscle group against muscle group to avoid atrophy. Taken to its logical conclusion you would be able to gain muscle mass and program muscle memory. The flip side is that you could remote control their body... but let's not go there. So what would people do if it were real? Well, they would probably limit and regulate it since the drawbacks are very obvious. Even if you look at the basic aspects of this you can see some negative possibilities. Look at the Sword Art Online anime. Personally, I think they missed the boat by putting a bomb in the VR helmet. Do you really need a bomb when you have direct access to the brain? So what kind of events would you need to have a situation where the obvious drawbacks haven't been explored? Maybe a society where the advancement of technology has so far outstripped the explorations of its applications that ignorance was truly bliss? Okay, so I had to put in an alien invasion to kickstart the premise, but that was just one of the possibilities.
