《Nightmare》A "New" Friend

I wake up being dropped on the ground. The sun is hot against my eyes. I look around seeing that we are in a desert like area. All around us is sand. No vegetation. I slowly sit up feeling my hands bound by something. I try to secretly unbind myself realizing that the dagger that I don’t have access to any of my powers. I look at the man angrily as he sits back relaxing against a rock. “What are you?” He looks over at me a little surprised.
“Thought someone as weak as you would have been knocked out for the rest of the trip.” I look around for his horse noticing that it is completely gone.
“I guess you underestimated me.” He chuckles to himself pulling out his blade with the saw back. He cleans it looking at me.
“I would say overestimated. The Nightmare I knew would at least given me a match.” I try to break out my binding. “Don’t even try it. This isn’t the first time he’s sent me after you. I would say this is the easiest time though.” I stop looking at him.
“What do you mean?” The man smirkes removing his hat. A large black diamond is on his forehead.
“Before there was a Nightmare, there was… No reason to get into my story kid. Soon you will be reunited with him.” I growl trying to break the bonds that bind me. “Boy I told you..” The man slaps me hard causing stars to dance in my vision. “You can’t break it. It was especially made for you.” I try to get my head to stop spinning. He relaxes back down in his position waiting.
“Why don’t you just let me go!” The man shakes his head rolling head. He places his hat back on his head.
“I wouldn’t even if I could. I have always played second fiddle to him. You think it’s fun pla-” He stops looking up into the distance. He stands up drawing his sword. “Looks like I wasn’t the only thing that followed out of the prison.” In the distance, something slowly walks over to us. It’s a creature with a large eyeball for a head. The head is elongated coming to a point at the top. The eye takes up the majority of the face. It otherwises looking like normal eye. I look at it shocked.
“What the hell are you?” The eyeball creature thing blinks looking at the man. It looks like the man holds his head in pain as a voice rings out in my head.
“I’m here to help old friend.” The man tries to stop his pain in his head as the eye creature looks at me. “Allow me..” The man charges the creature stabbing it in the chest. The creature blinks again sending the man flying into the air. The man slowly flies higher getting thrown far away from us. The eyeball creature comes over to me. “This body is dying.” I frown looking up at the creature.

“Maybe I can help you. I need you to free me first.” The creature nods releasing me from my chains. Once free I rub my wrists looking at the creature. The creature looks to have human shaped body except for the head. Where a normal sized head once sat sits an eyeball three times the size of the normal human head. The creature holds his hand out for me.
“Help.” I reach up taking it’s hand. I assumed that it would help me up. Instead the creature’s eyeball disappears with an eyeball tattoo appearing on my hand. I freak out slightly trying to shake it off. “Thank you for helping me Zack Day.” I look around assuming that I would see the eye creature somewhere. “I am in your head Zack Day.” I groan getting already annoyed.
“I lose one and gain another.” I feel the creature give off signs of disapproval.
“I am not like other beings Zack Day. I am the one thing in all of creation that can give you the answers you seek.” I stop thinking to myself.
“An excellent question. I have many names, however you can call me Seer.” I frown not liking this situation.
“How did you know my…” He cuts me off when it’s voice rings out inside my head.
“Question? I know many things Zack Day. However, this place isn’t like I remember. Something feels off in the world.” I stand up trying to access any of my powers. When nothing comes of it, I let out a large sigh.
“Great. I am in the middle of nowhere with another weird voice in my head.” Seer doesn’t say anything for a minute.
“It seems this world is different from the world that I came from. Moments in time haven’t happened like it was supposed to.” I wait for him to answer the question forming inside my head. “Meaning that three beings shouldn’t exist in this world. Death, the hunter that I threw away, and me.” I chuckle to myself looking around the area.
“Really? Death?” I spot a small building in the distance. I figure that I can at least try to make my way toward it.
“Yes. He has gone by many names. The Black Diamond, The Sixth Offspring, and a few others. Death was decided by the people that worshipped him.” My head starts to swim as I walk toward the building.
“You mean that bald guy who created Nightmare?” Seer doesn’t answer right away almost searching for an answer.
“Correct.” The building slowly becomes larger the closer I get to it. The building looks to be abandoned with the door swinging back and forth. “He needs to be defeated before he brings his other siblings.” I slowly frown looking inside the building. It looks to be ransacked with items all over the place.

“Siblings?” I enter the building looking for supplies.
“Yes. The other five. Fire, River, Force, Life, and Nimbus. With them back, the King will come back.” I find a few supplies that I can use to get back to back to my group. I stop realizing that I have no idea where I am. I groan slightly trying to climb up on the building.
“So I need to defeat this Death character right?” I get on top of the building looking out across the desert. Toward the horizon a number of buildings block out the setting sun. I do a three-sixty to see if there is anything close. The rest of the horizons are just desert. Great.
“Yes. Once you defeat him, he won’t be a problem anymore.” I wipe my face with my hand annoyance surging through me.
“What about you? How can I get you out of me?” Seer doesn’t say anything for a minute before coming back to me.
“I need to find a host body. Something won’t be destroyed with a stab.” I groan slightly somewhat wishing for Flint to come back already.
“I will try to figure something out. Anyway, how did you find me? Like do you know where we are?” Seer takes a minute to answer again.
“We are forty-five minutes south of any civilization. The location you were taken from is a month’s journey on foot.” I stop realizing that should be impossible. However, with everything that’s been going on, I understand that almost anything is possible now. “I found out you because of the hunter. He was made from where I came from. So I am able to sense those kind of people within the world.” I hop from the building deciding moving is better than sitting.
“You seemed pretty powerful when dealing with that guy. His skills…” Seer cuts me off as I begin walking into the desert.
“He was a backup plan for a younger Nightmare. When Nightmare escaped the lab, Death created this man to potentially make up for losing him.” I stomp through the sand my body slowly sinking with each step. “For me. I am one of the oldest beings to ever exist. Dealing with a weakling like him should never be a problem.”
“What about me then?” Seer doesn’t say anything for a few minutes leaving me alone with my thoughts. I don’t have control of my powers. Flint is gone. Plus I am a month away from everyone. I stop for a moment taking a breath. Plus with this Death figure controlling my brother. This is becoming too much.
“In my world, we never dealt with Nightmare. The rest of my kind was destroyed before the thought of creating a Nightmare was even thought of.” I stop at this surprised. From everything that’s happened to me so far, I would have thought that Nightmare would’ve been more powerful. The sun slowly starts to set as I get to the outskirts of the city. I look around seeing what I had expected. It’s been abandoned.
“Sounds kind of nice. Honestly.” I try to find a place to stay for the night. I can feel the annoyance surging through me as Seer comments on my statement.
“It was. Until King destroyed my race.” I find a little home that still has enough supplies that will get me a by for a few days at least.
“Why would this king person destroy your race?” I create a small fire trying to warm myself up. I got used to not really needing anything. Warmth, food, sleep.I guess this is going to be a big problem.
“We were the only ones that knew how to kill him. Nightmare was considered a god. King was beyond anything the universe ever saw.” I pick up a can slowly opening it.
“So Death is bringing him back. Great.” A slow headache forms in the back of my head.
“The only way to defeat him is finding me host. That way I will be connected to this world and know the world.” I eat from the can my headache slowly building.
“Which will be where?” Seer doesn’t comment as I finish eating from the can. I toss it aside laying down. The cloak feels cold to me. Everything about this just seems off.
“I found the perfect place for me. Just north of here is a tree.” I roll my eyes sitting up slightly.
“Really? A tree?” I stand up dusting myself off deciding it will be better to get this off now.
“Yes. Tree’s hold vast knowledge that I will need.” I put out the fire heading outside.
“Alright. This is..” I stop seeing the man that kidnapped me. He glares at me angry holding both of his swords in his hands. “Shit.”
“You’re lucky that little eyeball sent me away. This time I will personally make sure that you won’t be walking where again.”

Bloodlines
Bloodlines is the first major story set in the far larger and immensely connected universe known as Infinitum. A group of renegades and misfits take into the sky in their fancy skyship to fulfill the prophecy they don't care about and defeat the Empire they care even less about. In the process, they learn things (they would rather not) of the fucked up Universe, dead gods, and the future that holds no mercy. Bloodlines draws inspiration from One Piece. But in the bigger picture, Bloodlines is one of many stories set in Cosmere-like universe where plots stretch beyond planets and star systems and stakes are higher than godhood (like in Malazan chronicles). Currently, I am planning to finish the first arc [Bandit Arc], add 10k words interlude with some revelations, then publish a story happening elsewhere. Then I will be back to write the second arc. For now, the Fifth Region has 8 arcs planned. Officially, there are 5 regions. The Fifth Region is not the shortest but is far from the longest regions. - PS. Pay attention to flavor text. Chapters published weekly.
