《Nightmare》Death's Rise

I step back as the tendrils fade away and the older Flint stares shocked into his chest. “Impossible..” He coughs up blood as he falls to his knees. I frown ripping the sword from his chest.
“It’s over Answer. I defeated you.” He looks up at me smirking slightly.
“It’s finally over..” Flint appears at my side looking down at Answer.
“It’s finally over now Answer. It’s time for us to leave this world.” Answer looks at me smirking slightly.
“One down Zack.” A bright flash of light blinds me for a second. My vision comes too and I see Cure and Infection laying on the ground. They both have a holes through their chests. I look at Flint who disappears. I frown for a second looking at the child’s body. I hear the motorcycle coming as I start to walk away from their bodies. I see Eyes pull up with the cloak looking shocked.
“You did it..” I take the cloak from her and put it on.
“Yes I did. We need to find my brother quickly.” I notice the surrounding infection start to burn away from the landscape. Eyes thinks for a second and shows me the underground cave that the Answer was talking about. She quickly goes into it followed by me. We find my brother knocked out leaning against the wall. He looks undernourished and pale. I pick him up holding him close. “I am here Nick. I got you.” I carrying him out to the motorcycle. I turn back to see Eyes slowly following me. “Hurry up! We need to get him some help.” She quickly walks to me.
“He won’t die Zack.” I have her get on and drive us back. I hold Zack close to make sure nothing hurts or comes close to him. The surrounding landscape has become barren from the Infection burning off. We get back to the camp and Wart comes out. I head straight to the van and place Nick in it.
“... Zack?” I pause hearing Liz’s voice. I turn around and she rushes me hugging me close. I hug her back.
“It’s over. It’s finally over.”
We spend the next couple of weeks heading back to the compound where Liz’s parents are. My brother hasn’t woken up just yet but I have been ensured that he just needs to build his strength back up. With the Infection finally destroyed, teams have been sent out to make sure that there are no remaining Infected out there. I walk through the door to see Liz asleep in the bed. I look at the clock on the wall. Midnight. I hear footsteps outside the door. I look and see Eyes. “Can we speak for a moment Zack?”

“Yes.” I follow her down the hall and see Wart standing with their bags packed. I frown slightly looking at both of them. “What are you doing?” She frowns slightly.
“We were wondering when we are going to leave again. It’s been nice and fun here, but we have other things to do.” I frown remembering the fact Flint hasn’t appeared back.
“I don’t know what I am supposed to do. I am not leaving until Nick wakes up and is fine.” She frowns and looks at Wart. Wart snorts slightly.
“Um.. Zack. Eyes saw something worrying down south. It’s hiding itself from her. It could be nothing but..”
“But nothing. I am not the hero you guys think I am. I am not going to go down the path Nightmare did.” They pause as I leave the room angry. I head back to my room and get in bed with Liz. She rolls over putting her arm across me. I close my eyes and try to think of better days. She wakes up the morning kissing me on the cheek.
“Good morning.” I open my eyes and smile at her.
“Good morning.” She gets up heading to the shower. I sit up and I see Flint appear on the bed. His forms keep jumping between a bunch of Nightmares. In a bunch of distorted voices, they start saying weird things.
“He’s coming. You must run- no, fight- no, submit-” He stops changing forms and falls to the bed exhausted. “An old enemy is back Zack. You need to find my creator before he..” Flint gasps as he slowly starts to burn away.
“Flint? Flint what is going on?” He gasps and slightly touches my face burning completely away. I get a sensation of loneliness I haven’t felt in a long time. A red siren goes off throughout the lab and I jump to my feet. I throw the cloak on and grab the sword running to the hall. Down the hall, I see people firing into a cloud of smoke. Wart gets thrown from the cloud a black cloaked figure slowly approaches me. The black cloak is familiar but I have no idea where it’s from. He looks toward me and appears in front of me.
“I finally found you.” He removes his hood and time stops for a second. My brother stares at me except with pure black eyes and black veins going throughout his face. “I wanted to thank you for finding a suitable host for me until I get everything set back up.” He walks past me as I am unable to move. I feel the compound start to shake as Liz runs up to me. She tries to get me to move and I finally give in as a support beam falls. We barely reach outside as the entire compound collapses on itself. The ground itself starts to collapse as Wart and Eyes appear on the van. We get in it and it speeds away from the forming earthquake. After getting far away enough, I burst out of the doors as Wart tries to grab me.

“I have to save him!” Eyes and Liz gets in front of me. Liz slaps me forcing me to my senses.
“Your brother must be Infected with a new strain of..” Eyes cuts her off.
“No Elizabeth. The Infection is gone. This is something we haven’t seen before.” I frown as Wart removed his grip on me.
“Eyes. We need to find someone.” Eyes pauses and looks at Liz who looks annoyed. Liz goes to the van and slams the door close. I sigh with a mix of emotions running through me. “I need to find the person who created Nightmare.” She pauses and stops.
“You mean Doctor Green?” I frown slightly and nod. She digs out her book and looks through it. “He is far away south, Zack, but I think we can find him.” I nod.
“Start searching then. I will start driving.” Eyes and Wart get in the back of the van and I get in the driving seat. Liz looks at me annoyed.
“What’s going on Zack?” I start the van start driving south.
“I don’t know but I know a doctor who might help.” She glares slightly at me but huffs.
“Fine. We are lucky everyone got of the compound fine.” I pause slightly surprised.
“Really? No one was hurt?” She shakes her head no. Interesting. We stop trying to find some gas along the road and I pull Eyes over for a second.
“Flint is gone. I felt him leave me Eyes. Who was that really?” Eyes frowns shaking her head.
“I have no idea. I have never dealt with anyone that strong before.” I frown angry. How could this happening? I need to figure what is going on. I pause feeling a cold chill go up my back. I look around to see and my eyes lock onto a lone figure slowly walking down the road. Eyes looks at him also. She frowns confused.
“He isn’t from this world.” I draw my blade ready for a fight.
“Liz and Eyes go hide. I will deal with this.” Liz pops her head from behind the car. She frowns wanting to fight it but Eyes drags her away. The man stops from about ten feet from me. He looks young but danger is coming off him. He is ghostly white. He eyes are the color of the sea. A black cowboy hat hides the majority of his face except for the start of a beard. He is wearing leather armor which is confusing to a degree. He has two swords hanging from his side. He looks at me somewhat interested.
“Interesting. I didn’t guess Nightmare could change his form that much.” I rise my blade before me reading myself.
“I am not Nightmare. My name is Zack. What’s yours?” He draws one of his blades. It has a saw like backside made from a black steel.
“Been a long time since the last time someone asked me, I forget.” He rushes me and slashes at my side. I deflect the blow almost losing my sword. He tries to sweep my legs but I easily jump over him trying to slash at his neck. He takes the hit which causes me to pause. The hit does nothing to him as he brings his sword through my arm. I jump away holding my wound. What the hell is this guy? He starts to rub his neck where my sword hit. I rush at him hoping this distraction will give me enough time to end this. I quickly make three slashes at his chest and he doesn’t try to deflect them. I feel a sharp pain in my side and I look down to see a piece of blade sticking out of it. My body goes rigid. He places the small dagger back into its hilt. “Time to go Zack.” I try to fight to move but nothing comes from my actions. He picks me up throwing me over his shoulder. I limply lay there as Wart runs out with his wip.
“Let go of him!” The man drops me on the ground as he turns back to Wart. I try to force my body to do something but I am unable to. I start to hear a crunching sound. I get picked back up by the man walking over to his mode of transportation. A black horse.
“Pathetic being.” He turns around allowing me to see what happened to Wart. Wart’s head is smashed end leaving a bloody mess. The man throws me over the back of the back of the horse. He climbs on the horse spurring the horse down the road. My head swims as whatever that laced the dagger sends me into darkness.

[Archive] Legend of the Nameless Hero
A WhiteSamurai original Web Novel There are always the mysterious tales of heroes, those who fight against the Demons, who fight for justice and those who head mighty quests against tyranny. Heroes that are born to destiny, Heroes that are forged through tragedy, and Heroes that are brought to the world in times of great peril and strife. Not all true Heroes are wanted or beloved, but all life understands, that throughout all time and space, for those who truly stand as Heroes, they never need to be called one. The sands of time are the only true judge for those who journey upon the true path, the only one they will ever need. This is the tale, no, the Legend, the Legend of the one who throughout all time, would forever be, the First Hero. This is Their story, a story of true hardship, of a sorrow greater than any other that would stand as a symbol of inspiration no matter the test of time. A tale of darkness, a true curse, an impending evil hidden beyond the horizons that threatened the very future of existence. This is the tale, of one of the few great figures, who, in the face of true evil, continued to stand. . . . _______________________________________________________________ :Disclaimer: _______________________________________________________________ . . . All Chapters are subject to sudden revision, scrapping, or complete removal from the canonical storyline. The author of "Legend of the Nameless Hero" uses RoyalRoad as a method of experimentation with genre's and writing styles for Fantasy-style works for the sake of eventual publication. The end result isn't to release perfect chapters on RoyalRoadl, but eventually develop the story as intended using the best material to produce the highest quality work. The best mentality when reading works from WhiteSamurai is to see it as the ability to read and review pre-release transcripts or "Rough Copies" before publication. Viewer discretion and maturity are both requested and required. . . . _______________________________________________________________ :About: _______________________________________________________________ . . . This story follows direct character point of views along with an intentional third person narrative to explain to the readers what the characters won't. (I don't use my characters to go give extensive explanations for every last thing like EVERYTHING DOES) This tale shall encompass the life of the Hero from the moment she is summoned into the Kingdom of Kremor, to the Legendary Final Clash. This isn't your run of the mill hack and slash raise an army and conquer, I don't follow that bandwagon. Real life holds politics, intrigue, economics, structure, populations, civil opinions, history, psychology, heart, suffering, wonder, advancement, curiosity, ambition, and so many more things that would lead to me hitting some character limit. I refuse to take the same route that others use by simply ignoring these factors, my worlds, my stories, are as real as they get. There's no plot armor here, if someone screws up, they've screwed up and there's no magical sword in a well for them. I write in 'Seasons' not 'Books' as many often do, these are generally, not always, hundreds of chapters long, though as I have yet to finish a season, the average length is in the air. I go by an ideal of what I call 'Universal Lore' which includes the policy that things that exist within the story don't follow the rule where the Protagonist needs to be there so that it will happen. There will be some things that will happen, and the hero, and sometimes the reader, won't know happened until they enter a place, or news gets to them. A person needs to be in the right place at the right time, I hate plot holes and meta characters above all else... For my works, comments are practically demanded as reactions, thoughts, and various viewpoints are like sweet fuel to my writing spirit. Reviews are highly accepted and appreciated, BUT ONLY IF THEY ARE EDUCATED AND THOROUGHLY EXPLAINED. Those that throw down a low rating ARE HIGHLY REQUESTED to extensively detail and explain their viewpoints on the work. They should also be willing to come back to the work at a later date if messaged by the Author, Me, due to issues they mentioned being taken care of. I'm never against scrapping a chapter or rewriting several paragraphs if there are character or story discrepancies. I want the highest quality work possible, and every comment, every review, are tools for me to use to further that goal. . . . Enjoy the work. ~White Status: (Ongoing)
