"Everything Is a Double Edged Sword"

Present Day

*THUD*

How long was the drop; twelve feet? It felt like one hell of a ride. Getting knocked back like that and falling into a thought to be void really scares the shit out. I fell on my head. It felt nauseous. My head felt like it began to shrink and might explode any moment. I tried to look through my eyes. They are wet, am i crying? I wiped my eyes with my hand. When i looked, everything began to turn white and suddenly all fade away. I tried to get a grip on my mind and body. Once i regained my senses I felt something warm rushing out of my left side of the stomach. I stretched my arm to check. It was blood. Of course, i was just shot....it’s flowing out relentlessly. I tried to look up. I can clearly see the dust forming cloud due to the impact though it was dark in here. I guess my eyes got adjusted to it. I tried to stand up. I couldn’t. I don’t have enough strength left to stand nor to move a muscle. At this rate I’ll bleed out. So, is this how it’s going to end; without knowing the reason behind this? No way to fight back? No weapon at my disposal?

Waiting… standing still at the gate of Death. “Standing still”.....yeah, I remember now, those were my old man’s infamous last words. That reminds me, this is not the first time I’m in this kind of situation. Now that i think of it, am i cruel for not regretting what happened back then? I didn’t feel any remorse at that time. It’s not like it was my fault. But am i guilty for having no emotions over it? I wasn’t happy either. Frankly speaking, it felt like freedom.

East to Berlin, Countryside.....

*YAAAAWN*

“Is my shift over yet?” asked a guard in duty to his partner.

”quit your slacking, we have a country to protect.” his partner replied

“Why are we guarding if nothing’s supposed to happen?”

“We are guarding so that nothing HAPPENS.”

“Let’s get some booze after all this is set and done.”

“You can go on your own, I'm going straight home.”

“Yeah yeah... Whatever.”

*beep*

“Something’s on the radar”

“Wait, let me check”

*frightened*

“Hey, what is it? You’re face is white and all”

“HURRY AND CONTACT HQ. I SPOTTED A WHOLE ARMY OF DEMONS WITH ATLEAST 2 REDS.”

“Wait, dammit. Where's the damn telephone”

Berlin HQ

“Hello, can I have your message.”

“This is the east checkpoint. We just spotted a WHOLE ARMY OF DEMONS APPROACHING WITH ATLEAST 2 REDS!”

“What are the coordinates? “

“20km North-west to east border. It’s approaching to central.”

“Roger that, please standby”

*DISCONNECTION*

“Report an invasion in northeast. Inform the general.”

Sometime later

Soldiers were getting prepared to head out.

“There’s a breach at northeast. It’s a surprise attack. We have to stop the enemy before they reach central.” That was the speech from general before they headed out.

“ETA is approximately 5 hours until they hit central. We have to head out there fast. Winning this battle would be a miracle. I didn’t expect they’d take their turn so fast.” An officer reported to the general.

“Even i didn’t expect this. To come up with an army like this, it’s just like as if.....they’re taking their last stand.”

Battle zone, 1 hour later.

“What’s the status?” general asked an officer

“Not good sir, we are 1:3 in number. Not to mention those 2 Reds are enough to take our army out. No reinforcement available too. It's unexpected that the enemy would come out of the blue like this. It hasn’t been much time since the last battle. Regardless of the win, we lost a huge amount soldiers, high numbers of seasoned soldiers are killed or at leave due to injury. The men at field are the only expendable we have.”

“Then that’s it, we either turn them back or die trying. Make sure to send a message to abandon east if things go south.”

“ALL UNITS, CHARGE AHEAD!”

An average Demon is 2x stronger than a normal human. And with a ratio of 1:3 winning this would be a miracle. The enemy was well prepared. They took countermeasures beforehand. It was a big wasteland; perfect for massive destruction. The 2 Reds were enough. Caught off-guard and unprepared it was a matter of time the army would lose to them. Lack of resource and Color was another point. In less than half an hour they were almost wiped out.

“What’s the status on marksmen?”

“Retreated from action due to lack of resources, sir”

“Ground troops?”

“Front vanguard is all but wiped out. Remaining soldiers are trying to draw attention by spreading both east and west

“What happened to the warping plan?”

“There’s not much efficient Color and manpower to pull that off. If we could warp the reds, it’d give us enough time to hold the enemy off for a counter-attack.”

*radio transmission*

“Is everything right sergeant?”

“Sir, I just had a message, it is bad news. The right flank is compromised.”

The general took one last look at the battlefield. “This is it, give the order to abandon east border. Send the remaining soldiers to rendezvous at central. Regroup and redeploy. We’ll take the enemy out at central. If we retreat now we might get enough time to come up with a plan.”

“But sir...”

“THAT’S AN ORDER!”

“Yes, sir”

Just before the order could be sent another soldier came barging in and said, “SIR, THE OPPOSITION HAS RETREATED!!”

“What? Why’d they turn back now?”

Another officer came sprinting in. Panting like a madman, “sir....*huff*...the HQ...*huff*....it’s been infiltrated.”

“This was a diversion??”

“Yes, there’s a....*huff* traitor in our ranks. He...*huff* tried to breach files on other officer’s whereabouts. He was caught before a huge leak could occur but one contact has been compromised.”

“How long has it been since the breach?”

“About 2 hours, it’s hard to get radio here that’s why it took time.”

“So, now that the opposition is retreating that means, they got their target. Who is it”

“Colonel Akdteruß, sir”

“Great, it had to be some important personnel. Did they dispatch someone?”

“Lieutenant GrandHel was sent to secure colonel.”

“That kid was sent to secure him? How old was she again; 14 right?”

“Yes but out of all army in Pendragon she’s the most powerful. Young she might be, but she’s more experienced and bold than the rest off us.”

“That, she is.”

Sometime Later

West to Berlin

Brandenburg

Akdteruß Mansion,

I remember it was a dark night. The sky looked dreadful because of all the thunder crackling and the wild breeze. By the looks of it I could tell it was about to rain soon and hard. I was at my father’s office in the ground floor of my house. It was the room in which I’d spent most of my time. There were a lot of papers in the room. On the table, floor, my dad’s work desk, everywhere. No one bothered to get rid of it or to stack it up. A thick layer of dust was on the papers. It had an old musty smell to them. I tried to read the contents once but, I didn’t understand the language plus it had a lot of weird pictures & designs in it. I didn’t understand any of it. I did ask my dad about it few times but he’d always turn me down. There was also a bookshelf. Rather curious one. It had a lot of books in it. I never bothered to check out the books. That’s a lie actually. I never got to know them because my father always kept it locked up. Maybe he didn’t want me or anyone else to know what’s inside. When he needed he’d take out books secretly, without my knowledge. Not that I'd anything to do with it but, he always did this behind my back. But It’s not the only thing that was kept secret from me, truth to behold they didn’t disclose anything to me.

It was just another normal night. I was either playing or observing the environment. I always do that. Look around the room non-stop. I never get bore of it. But I’m sure I was thinking about something. I can’t remember. And then suddenly a loud lightning struck and caught my attention. I got up and walked towards the window. That’s when another lightning struck, louder than before. I don’t know but, at the same time as the lightning struck I think I heard another sound from my house. It felt like a sound of a glass breaking. I backed away from the window and suddenly the lights went off. It was pretty obvious. I didn’t expect the electricity to stay up much longer after hearing few lightning strikes like that. I started to walk out from the room to check on my parents. I opened the door and stared at the pitch black environment. I started to walk down the corridor, Step by step. It was dark and I didn’t know my path so I was being pretty cautious. I think I heard some weird noise and it caught my attention. I couldn’t decipher the sound. I tried to follow it. My eyes started to adjust with the darkness while I was searching for something, or someone that might be related to the sounds. I ended up at the back side of my house, trying to find out the sounds. Before I could find out the source of the sound, someone came up to me from behind, grabbed me and took me up. I tried to struggle a bit but I stopped because it was my father. He lifted me up on his lap with one hand and on the other hand he took my mother’s hand and headed up-stairs using the back staircase. I looked down and I think I saw someone while we were heading to the next floor. And that’s when I knew something’s not right. I opened my mouth to ask my father but after seeing his face I didn’t utter a word. I didn’t think it was a right time to ask something to him after seeing that serious face. And it’s not like he’s going to tell me everything or either anything. After all when was the last time he told me anything related to anything? Just as we reached the 2nd floor my Dad handed me over to mom and commanded something to her. I didn’t quite catch that. My mom carried me and took me to the furthest room on the east side. She opened the door, put me on a table and said, “It’s going to be fine, daddy will come back soon.” how could you tell that mom? Frightened and shivering like that? How could you lie?

The door suddenly opened and my mom shrieked. It was my father. He walked up to us and said to my mom, “dear, we’ll have to go. There is no other choice.” mom sort of hesitated. She was looking at me and at my father repeatedly. After a bit she stopped and looked down. As if she was disappointed. I was starting to understand a bit. I think it had something to do with the man downstairs. I’m sure he didn’t come here for friendly business. And then suddenly my father turned fast to me and said, “Listen Raye, no matter what happens, DO NOT come out of this room. You hear me? I’ll come back soon. Stand still and don’t move”. Don’t move?? How could i stand still? The last words of my father were to stand still? And my mother told me that everything was fine? How could anything be fine? How could anything be fine if i stood still in this world where you keep everything a secret and locked away from me?? How could i?? Is it because I’m a kid?? If it was, then it’d be meaningful in some cases, BUT IS IT NECESSARY TO DO IT EVERYTIME?!

After those words my father grabbed my mother’s hand and went out. Before they left mom looked back at me one last time. I could see the dazzling wet eyes of my mother in the dark looking back at me. Those eyes looked like they were bearing a pain. It looked like she wanted to say something to me. But she could never say it…..not anymore. My father didn’t bother to look behind. That was typical of him.

I was neglected....again. I am neglected…….every time. I sat their and looked at the window. The curtains were flying wild. It was raining, quite heavily. It was getting stronger with every moment passing by. The outside looked very dark. The only motion I could make out was the trees that were dancing with the storm. Now that I look at it I never went out of my home much. I could count the times I went out if I tried to remember. So I didn’t have much experience outside. I didn’t even go to the place called School. I had to fulfil my desires in these locked 4 walls. I didn’t have any friends. Actually I never knew anyone but my parents. And it’s not like I had a strong bond with my parents either. I talked rarely to my father. He was a very philosophic person. I did like what he had to say but that was it. Nothing more “Father Like”. My mother was a bit more co-operative but it felt like she forcefully didn’t keep much contact with me. She tried to get along with me but I think… She, they... never saw me as one of their own.

I sat there waiting for someone to come or something to happen. I kept waiting and had lost track of time. I don’t know how much time had passed. 5 minutes? 30 minutes? 1 hour perhaps? I was so angry at them. I’m always angry at them. Why did they always shove me in a dark corner? I was growing more impatient as the clock tick-tocked. I felt annoyed at the sound. I couldn’t take it any more. I stood up and thought if it was right to go out there. I wondered what was happening. It was strange that the electricity didn’t come yet. We had an electricity generator and it had an auto function to turn on when load shedding occurred. I wondered if the guy downstairs had anything to do with it. I think I should check out. I started to walk towards the door while staying quiet. I opened the door carefully and tried to catch a sound cue. The storm was really strong. Maybe the strongest I’d seen in my life. I couldn’t hear anything because of the storm. I took a peek. No sign of anyone or anything unusual. I came out and closed the door. I started walking down the corridor slowly. Tip toeing to make sure the floor beneath didn’t squeak. I kept walking thinking what could possibly go wrong. I searched the rooms along the path to find my mom and dad. And then something caught my eyes lying on the floor. I peered at it from few feet away. I tried to figure out what it was. I think i figured it out. And suddenly a lightning flashed. And I saw it, a body.

Her body.

My mother’s body. Silent as ever.

I walked up to her body. It didn’t move an inch. I bent down on my knees and flipped her to my side. Her body felt cold. Her eyes were open, gaping at horror. I checked for wounds. She was stabbed with a knife. I checked for a pulse. But she didn’t have any. I closed her eyes and suddenly I heard a racket. It came from the room up ahead. The sound felt dangerous that’s why I pulled the knife from her body and stood up. I silently walked towards the room. I peeked in while standing at the frame of the door. And I saw four men and my father. Suddenly one of them charged at my father and tried to pull a punch in his face. My father dodged it and punched him in the stomach. It enraged the man and he started to attack at father more viciously. But my father was too swift for him to handle. At one point my father brought his hands together and I saw a light coming out from his locked hands. I didn’t know what it was but I’m sure he wasn’t holding any sort of device to do that. Then he grabbed the man and lifted him up. He was shaking and sparks began to come out as if he was being electrified. After a few seconds my father let him go and the man fell on the ground. Smoke began to emit from his body. My father took a few steps back. He looked a bit worried. One of the men had a sledgehammer. He charged at my father and tried to wreck him up with a blow but it was too slow for him and he dodged. The sledgehammer guy was quite strong I guess. He tried to land blows after blows relentlessly. But my father dodged them all off. He was dodging them alright but he was significantly slower than when he was dodging the man who is now lying on the floor, probably dead. My father was trembling a little. At one point it was about to hit but my father grabbed the sledgehammer. He struggled to parry the attack because it was too strong for him. Not to mention he was shaking. As if he was growing weaker. Another one of those men took the chance. He came in sprinting with a switch knife and stabbed my father right in the middle of his stomach. The stabber let go of the knife and my father collapsed on his knees at once. Blood started to come out from his wound and mouth, he tried to pull out the knife. The sledgehammer guy finished it with an upward smash. Judging by the hit it surely broke the chin and neck bone of my father. I saw him as he flew off and dropped on the floor.

I lost a bit balance and stepped on a piece of glass unintentionally. I took cover beside the frame right away because i was sure they heard it. I peeked again very carefully this time. The man who stabbed father motioned the 3rd guy to check it out. He started walking towards the door. I readied the knife in my hand, prepared to attack. He closed into my range and I stabbed him at the left side of his chest. I let go of the knife. The man looked into my eyes and collapsed at the ground at once. The other 2 ran to see what happened. But before they could reach I broke into a sprint. I’m sure they heard me and chased after me. I tried to think of a plan as I kept running and suddenly a window in front of me burst open though it was locked. I guess the pressure of wind was too much for the lock to handle. And then a plan came to my mind.

The 2 men split up to search me. The sledgehammer guy would be the bigger problem i think. So i decided to draw his attention. Once they had split to search for me I followed the hammer guy. I didn’t notice where the other guy went. I made sound and stuff to lure him. Then i used the back stairs. I checked if he was still following. I was at a safe distance but he was following. I ran up to the main hall. There was the grand staircase in front of the entrance gate. I checked if he was following my trail. He was taking my bait. He was walking towards the main hall. I unlocked the entrance gate and hid under the shadow of the grand staircase. I could run away but i had a revenge to take. I had prepared a vase to hit him with. As soon as i was done he appeared. I was waiting for the moment. He was searching the room for me. Then suddenly a big burst of wind opened the front gate. The sledgehammer guy was off-guard. He tried to cover himself from the storm outside. I ran up to him and threw the heavy vase at his head. He fell on the ground and dropped his hammer. I quickly picked it up and hit him with it though it was too heavy for me to handle. He was trying hard to stand up. But I’d hit him in the leg so he couldn’t move. He started to scream in agony. I slowly walked up to his head. He saw me with the hammer and tried to crawl away and screamed. I lifted the sledgehammer over my head. It was so heavy. I put all my strength and heart in it and landed a blow on his head. Blood started to flow out. He didn’t move. I guess he’s dead, I killed him.

Suddenly a ball of fire went through right by my side. I turned back to look. I forgot one of them was remaining. How could i forget something like this at a time like this? I moved towards the grand staircase. He was in front of me, In front of the entrance gate. I lifted the hammer up to make a defensive pose. It was hard for me. My arms were sore. I couldn’t bear the hammer’s weight any longer. And suddenly i saw a change in his hand. His hand was glowing and suddenly turned into a ball of fire. I was harrowed at the sight. How is that possible? He threw the ball at me but fortunately it didn’t hit me because the shock from before made me lose my balance and i fell on the ground due to the heavy weight of the sledgehammer.

I was looking at his hand. Did he really just spew fire from his hand? He shook his hand to take out the flame. He started to walk towards me and pulled a gun from his coat. I tried to think. What could i do? If i started to run or even make a move he might shoot me. I looked my left and right for something. The sledgehammer was useless, it wouldn’t help me deflect bullets. What could i do? What could i? Before i came up with a plan he walked up to me. He was just a feet or two away. He switched the safety button off and aimed at me. He took the hammer of the gun back and loaded it, now it’s a live gun. I stared at the nozzle and he pulled the trigger.

I heard a gunshot and closed my eyes. I tried to feel where the bullet hit. I didn’t feel any. I opened my eyes to check. No sign of wound. I looked at the man. Blood was dripping from his body. And suddenly he collapsed. I took a look behind him. There was someone behind him. It was a girl. I couldn’t clearly see her. Her hair was flying because of the storm. She was holding a gun in her hand. Smoke was coming out of the nozzle. So she’s the one who shot the round. I tried to stand up and suddenly a lot of men with gun came charging in, securing the house. They were soldiers I guess. I opened my mouth to thank the girl. But she left the spot and talked to one of the soldiers. I thought to walk up to her and thank her. Before I could do it someone grabbed my back and said, “Come with me. You can talk to her later.” I listened to his suggestion and followed him. He escorted me out of the mansion with an umbrella and took me to a car. He opened the back door for me and I sat in the back seat. I wonder what’ll happen next. And how did they know that there was an assassination in my house? Was my father connected to the military somehow? While I was thinking about it I saw the soldiers bringing the corpses out of the mansion. I couldn’t tell which one was which. All of them were covered with white clothes. Distant they might be but, they died protecting me. I guess they did care for me after all. Then I saw the girl coming out of the mansion with one of the soldiers, talking about something.

“The power was cut off. All communications were disabled too. They had planned this beforehand.”

“What about the bodies?”

“Total of 6 was found. Mrs.Graham was found lying on the 2nd floor corridor. She was stabbed but no weapons were found. We found 3 bodies in the room next to her. Col. Akdteruß was lying on the floor. He was stabbed in the stomach. His neck was dislocated too. It broke apparently. One of the other 2 bodies was shocked. The body was next to Col. Akdteruß. The last body in the room was lying on the door way stabbed at the heart. The last two were at the main hall. One of them had their brain smashed in while the other was shot by you.

“Dispose all the bodies from the history. It can never be made public. No one and absolutely no one else should not know about this.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

I didn’t know what they were talking about. After the conversation finished the girl entered the car and sat in the front seat. She ordered the driver to go. I took a last look at my house and then the car took off. So this is how riding in a car feels like. The fast motion of the world around me dizzied me for a second but in a few moments I got adapted to the situation. After a while she looked behind to check on me. I sort of got a little spooked. She was staring at me and I tried to pretend that that I didn’t notice and rolled my eyes away. It felt a little awkward. Then she asked me, “What’s your name?” I still didn’t look at her. I replied,

“Raye. Rayemond lynn-Akdteruß.”

She turned back and didn’t ask me any other questions. Ohh! I forgot to thank her. “Thank you for saving me.” I thanked her. She turned her head a bit but didn’t say anything. I was staring at the window. Thinking what would happen to me next. Was I about to be sent in an orphanage? Maybe I’ll be sent off to live with another family. What if they were also like my former parents? Did I get freed from chains just to get shackled again? I didn’t want to be tied down again. I wanted see the world. Explore it. Feel it. I decided, no matter what happens…I’m not going to get caged again. It was quite late. After all what happened I think I was exhausted. I looked through the windows to enjoy the sceneries. I kept on replaying in my head what happened in my house. We arrived at a military office 1 or 2 hours later.

German HQ

It was 12/13 floors or more with an area greater than a football stadium. We got out of the car and the girl asked me to follow her. Actually it felt more like an order. We reached the front entrance. Soldiers were guarding the entrance. They saluted the girl when we arrived. I guess she was a higher level officer. But after all she’s also a kid... like me. Maybe 5 years older than me. The ground floor was... empty. Nothing but the reception and elevators. We entered the elevator and were headed for the top floor. It felt sort of funny, the elevator ride. My stomach felt tingly. I wanted to laugh. Before I lost control over my body we reached our destination. I walked along her. I took a glance of the busy atmosphere around me. There were officers working, talking to each other, walking around. Telephones, chatters, machines all sorts of noise were in there. It was a bit too much for a solitary boy like me to handle. She entered a room, it was a personal office. I also entered the room. There were 2 men in there. One was standing talking to the other person sitting behind the desk. The man who was standing left the room at once when we arrived. The girl sat on one of the chairs to the left.

Then the man in the desk started to talk to me, “Good evening, child. It has been so long.”

Oooo…kaaay so… I did know someone. Or at least someone knew me.

He continued, “Of course you don’t recognize me. I met you when you were very young.”

I didn’t know what to say. What should I say??

“Oh right… I haven’t introduced myself yet. My name is…”

“Tyler II Pendragon.” I stole his words. He seemed a bit pleased.

“And how’d you figure that out?” He asked.

“There’s badge at the right side of your chest. It’s worn by the kings of Pendragon. So that means…” I started to talk.

“Yes I’m chief in command of this Super-Nation. I must say you have quite the observant eye.” He complemented me.

I was again out of words. What could I say? It felt a little awkward. I started to look around the room. I couldn’t help it. It was one of my tendencies.

He walked out of his desk. Keeping his head down he started, “I’m really sorry for the loss of your parents.” He apologized.

Don't be.

“They were very close and important allies for me. I’m at grief because of this atrocity. But i have to know how it happened. So Rayemond, can you tell me what happened?” He pleaded.

Without a hesitaion, I agrred, “Ye-yes.” after all, I have no trauma over it.

I told him everything. How they killed my parents, how I killed them and everything in between. I also told him about the fire and electricity incident. Now that i think about it, it feels like a dream. As if nothing really happened. How could it really happen?

“So you killed 2 full grown adult men not to mention they were Demons and were Color users.”

Demons? Isn’t that a legend? A myth? Color? What is that? How can red, blue and yellow have anything to do with this?

“Uhm..sir, i don’t understand what you are trying to imply.” I stated.

“Just as I expected. Ohh yes, of course it went over your head. So tell me, what was your father’s occupation?”

“He was a...” then I realized, like I’d know what he did. I don’t even know his name.

“He worked in the military. He was a Colonel. The trick he had done to kill the man was magic. Everyone in this room except you can do that.” He said.

Magic? Is this a joke? But then again, electric hands and ball of fire was the proof to that.

“So, Rayemond, Want to know that had been kept hidden from you by your parents?”

I nodded to affirmative.

“You see you were born without these powers. That’s why your parents did not want you to know anything. There’s a war going on between us and the Demons. They were worried that you might not survive this." (Tyler)

Suddenly the desk telephone rang. The führer nodded to the other receiver's end and put the phone down.

“I wish i could spend a bit more time with you to quench your confusions. But I’m sorry. For now I’m leaving you with her.” He stated.

I glanced at her and looked back.

“Oh, of course, introductions. She’s the gem of Pendragon, Aya-faye GrandHel the youngest officer in history of this military.

Now now, go on.”

We left the room. The man who was in the room earlier was outside the office. Maybe he was waiting for us. He gave a hard glance at me and entered the room.

“So, did he pass?” The man asked.

“Pass.” Tyler replied.

“Really, Tyler? Now you’re sending humans to war? Not to mention he’s a kid and look at his body. You think he can survive?” The man protested.

“That KID might be the KEY. If he turn-“ Sir Tyler tried to oppose.

“What if he is not what we expect? What if we’re calling in danger?” The man still went on about it.

“Akdteruß decided to keep him away from this matter. Now that we are in position, we should make a use of him.” Sir Tyler made a point.

"He's not a tool Tyler." The man tried to knock some sense in to him.

Sir Tyler's face boomed into a bit confused astonishment. He started, "Frankly speaking, I wanted to tell him everything and let him decide for his own. But Aya said she would take all the responsibilities and lead him."

"That girl's a menace. She'll turn him to rabid dog in a few days but then again, she's the most-" The man couldn't finish the sentence.

"Trustworthy. Right?" Sir Tyler finished his sentence.

"Yes." The man agreed.

"We are responsible to destroy his life. True it may be, but the cost can turn this apocalypse down. Forever." Tyler realized.

“Disclosing the truth and clinging on a light of hope which might turn out to be the flame that’ll burn us all is not wise Tyler.” The man still wanted Tyler to be considerate of his actions.

“If this FIRE of yours ends the war for once and for all… I’ll be happy to burn in it.” Tyler wanted to take the risk.

“For that I’ll sacrifice myself too.” He agreed with him for the moment.

After exiting the office, I kept walking the corridor with my head down carrying a subconscious mind.

"Where are you going?" Aya asked me.

"I don't know." I said with the most clearly faint voice.

"You don't have much options from here on out." She said.

When was the last time I was given an option?

"I'll send you to join in the military. You'll be working under me against the Demons." (Aya)

I stopped on my track, "If I turn down?" I asked.

"Your opinion is Irrelative. You'll be executed if you disobey. If it wasn't for me, you'd be dead by now with your parents and the men from the military would be responsible for your death." (Aya)

"Are you threatening me?" I asked spinning my head around.

"I'm ordering you to obey me." She said.

I opened my mouth but I didn't say anything more. I turned my head down, eyes closed.

"I'll be sending you Stuttgart tomorrow, to start your training." She said and went on ahead; leaving me behind.

After that, I was sent to a private facility in Stuttgart. I trained for the next 6 years. I came in touch with the outside world. I started to live my life with a meaning.

To this very day I don't why I went with her plan. What was it that stopped me from opposing? Being executed now and then won't be much of a difference. Death never bothered me. But I guess, staying silent and agreeing with her to join the military was just the perfect reply to the face of my parent’s so called HOSPITALITY.
