《The Hero's Prophecy》Chapter 4: Torc

The beast stood before them proud and tall. Its body made of violet flesh and shiny steel towered above the buildings by two storeys. Its steel-plated skull sneered high above the roofs with a menacing smile. A sinister turquoise light emanated from behind its glass eyes as it stared at the miserably small group of fighters with nothing but wicked delight.

"Give that back, Torc," Moly demanded.

The dragon moved its gaze onto the spectacles for a moment, and returned it to the crowd. It laughed.

"This measly thing? Too bad. I ain't giving it back." The sound of shattering glass was heard as the spectacles between its claws was squeezed. The act intimidated the crowd with a few having their legs and arms start shuddering. A fog of silence shrouded everyone.

"Guys, what'd he do? Couldn't see it?" Moly asked.

"Torc shattered your glasses, Moly," Metaphor replied, which Moly answered with "Oh."

"Valiant heroes of Townston, our high lord and saviour Prometheus would like your measly town erased from the face of the Imaginarium, and I, Torc, would realize his wish."

"What did we do to displease him again?" Moly inquired.

"Mere existence."

"Not a chance. This town shall stay, may it need my life." Hero was first to attack. He swung his two-handed sword at the great beast. The others, inspired by his example, jumped into action, casting their meager spells and swinging their flimsy clubs.

Their bolts and blades were no match to the great beast's hull who only shrugged off their attacks as only "scratches." Torc, the beast, swept the square with his claws, digging trenches in the stone. The buildings all around toppled by the great beast's whim.

Hero was getting none of that. With might, he swung his claymore at Torc's hand. Fire flashed from his strike. Torc reeled in pain as the blade sliced his steely bones, and cut his purple flesh. Blood dripped from the wound.

"H-how?" Torc exclaimed. The townsfolk were emboldened to see that even the great beast sent to pound their town to rubble could bleed, and they attacked fiercer.

In the volley of attacks, the great dragon retaliated with a fury of swipes that halved many, and carved ditches onto stone. Walls fell down, brick were sundered, and homes were reduced to rubble.

Hero was the forefront of the battle, swinging his claymore at the beast of steel. He wounded the dragon with his mighty attacks. The wounds were then enlarged by fiery bolts cast by archers and spellslingers.

When Hero was about to strike true the finishing blow, a sinister glow appeared in Torc's mouth. The beast was heavily wounded, blood leaking from his many wounds and orifices. Hero didn't notice it at first, but when he did, it was already too late.

A stream of blue flames flowed out Torc's mouth, torching and roasting all caught in its path. The entire square was covered in soot as the fiery breath thoroughly grilled them. Hero fell back, dropping to the ground, defeated, roasted, overwhelmed, smoked. All the other townsfolk were cooked just as well. Ashes, chars, and embers shaped like people laid all around. The surviving people were discouraged to see their hero fall, and some even fled in cowardice and hopelessness.

"F-fools. You think you can defeat me? I am a d-dragon for goodness sake! You c-can't defeat me. I am insurmountable, insuperable, undefea-"

Torc suddenly stopped midword as his breath was suddenly stolen away. He dropped onto his knees, then dropping face first to the ruined ground. The living toquoise glow slowly faded from his eyes. All the surviving folk a stared in amazement, seeing the dragon that fought them like a one-man army was felled by a four-legged creature with an arm on its back holding a sword piercing through behemoth's neck.

After a few bated breaths, the silence was broken with warriors chanting cheers of victory, raising their weapons up high.

"Hip hip hurrah. Hip hip hurrah."

Who is this mysterious quadruped warrior? One thing is for sure: they are handsome.
