《Short Stories by Regan Brooks》The Interview

I’m always nervous about interviews. In high school, I was one of those people. You know, the kind that doesn't test well. I got nervous and second guessed myself and ended up changing my answer to the wrong one, even though I nailed the question the night before. All those familiar feelings came back as I sat at the conference room desk.
The harsh fluorescent lights were starting to give me a headache. One more thing to be anxious about. “Sorry I’m late,” said the suit who walked into the room, shutting the door behind them. “I’m Allen, it’s nice to meet you.” He held out his hand, which I shook. “Alright, tell me a little about yourself.”
I hate that question. It’s so open ended. Want to know how I broke my arm in seventh grade? That I have a super cute dog? That I hated my last job? “Um, I’m twenty-seven. I, uh, graduated from the college here in town with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration...is there anything in particular you would like to know?” I ask.
My resume is on the table. Allen swiped it towards himself and took a glance. “Graduated in town too, huh?” he said.
“That’s right. You too?”
“Heh, no.” he muttered, turning the piece of paper and setting it back down. “Why do you think you’ll be a good fit here?”
Sweat rolled down my back. I’d be a good fit because I need a paycheck and you’re offering one. Yeah, that’s totally the answer he’s looking for. Something professional, I needed an answer that was vague enough to sound appealing. “Well, I’m a team player. I’m punctual, and I...am dedicated to my work.”
Allen nodded slightly and looked up at the ceiling. My heart pounded while I waited for him to say something. “What,” he made a gesture with one hand, like he was feeling around in the air for what words he wanted to pluck out and use. “What do you bring to the corporation?”

Didn’t I just answer that in the last question? I wanted to say something that related to what the company did, which would’ve been easy if I’d known anything about what the company did. “I bring a willingness to learn, um, I pick up things quickly. I...I bring a lot of dedication and knowledge from my previous experiences?” I didn’t want that last part to sound like a question...but here we were.
“Cool,” he said. The word hung there like cigarette smoke.
“Is that it?” I asked cautiously.
“Oh...sure. Do you have any questions for me?”
Somehow that made me even more nervous. Was a short interview a bad sign? “...can you tell me a little more about what Fischer-Baker Inc. does?” I mustered.
Allen shifted in his seat, for the first time, he didn’t look sure of himself. He opened his mouth, then closed it quickly. “Well, we facilitate the...forward progression of our field in...the industry.” He cleared his throat. “What we produce...um, sustains various communities within the market.” I wasn’t sure if it was the lighting or not, but it seemed like his face was getting redder.
“Listen,” he continued. “I’ll level with you. I was brought on six years ago. I don’t really know what it is we do here and at this point, I’m too afraid to ask. I give a lot of internal presentations and keep everything super vague and, so far, no one’s called me on it.” Allen laughed like someone who finally shrugged an enormous weight off their shoulders. “I think we manufacture...things?”
I was dumbstruck. “Does, does this mean I have the job?”
“Sure,” he laughed. “Why not.” Allen let out a deep sigh and smiled. “Come with me and we’ll get that paperwork started.”

8 156Those Zombies Again
One day Sam wakes up in a world full of zombies and tries to survive.PSFirst of all i would not recommend this novel if you haven't read like hundred of novels already. Its pretty weird and depressing novel. This story is told almost completely from MC point of view. Third person.MC is a pretty ugly random guy with different psychological problems. He is antisocial and limited person.Lore - Since MC is limited and barely interested in people or just surroundings, you will get pretty limited descriptions on stuff, it was meant to be like that.Characters - Obviously for the same reason, you will not see much characters, usually you wont get their description or even names.Fights - I personally hate those fights in novels which take like few chapters to describe some shitty encounters. For example MC is making his "move" and then you get half chapter of description of his thoughts and the ways his face is looking, and the way like his opponent surprised and the way crowd is reacting and so on. I really hate all that shit so fights in this novel will be described not that often, only if an equal or a new opponent, and only in a strict and straightforward way, no bullshit. Now this novel is not exactly fantasy, its more like grim realistic-fantasy.But i will have to explain what i mean. Lets take rape in most novels as an example. Usually MC will be justified to rape a girl one way or another. Common example is aphrodisiac. Or the girl were trying to kill him so he had to "punish" her. Or she just happened to jump on his thing and then after rape she become his girlfriend etc, Those are examples of "fan service" in novel. So MC would be justified and readers woun't feel too uncomfortable to read something like that.So there is no "fan service" in this novel, like at all. You will have to read some stuff that will make you feel uncomfortable and you woun't like it.Common sense also means that there is barely gonna be any "random" events which MC is gonna be part of. No treasures and superpowers he founds because he is "special". He will not meet antagonists on his way. This novels world will not spin around MC in any way. He will usually sit in his deep cave and no one around will give a damn about him or even know of his existence. So this novel is not for you to have fun and enjoy reading. Not to make you feel comfortable, satisfied or happy. Its probably the opposite. There are some standards which novel usually sticks to in order to become popular. Obviously i did not meet those standards at all.
8 150Vlad The Impaler (VAMPIRE-ELF)
Count Dracula wakes up after 2000 years and the only thing he wants, desires and yearns for is to find her and make her his ;the woman he had been promised through years and years of prophecy. Yet this elf princess who captured his soul by just breathing comes with a lot of baggage in the form of curses and a destiny given mission to kill him. Erinna is the most powerful elf to have ever been born and stands by her duty. She doesn't care for fabled prophecies making her mate to the most evil tyrant to ever walk the earth which does not make sense in itself since a union between a vampire and elf will result in a curse that would wipe out both races. The only prophecy she believed was the one that said she'd kill him. What are these two going to do especially when Dracula hungers and yearns for Erinna with a desire bordering on insanity? Will she be able to fight the uncontrollable attraction and bond she has with him and not succumb to her darkest desires?I obviously suck at summaries. Just read the book.Beta Reader @LightningThiefGirl
