Chapter 11: Serana, A Story So Cruel / It Shall Go Untold, Horrors Unimaginable

“Just let it end.” Serana thought, sinking deeper and deeper.

“It hurts.... Why? Just let me go, already. Why do you still want me? Why…” Serana wondered, her consciousness drifting away.

She fell asleep in the water, smiling softly, as her eyes finally closed.

She woke up.

She was on a soft bed, in a warm room. A peaceful ambience filled the entire area.

“What? Whe-kack, uolp. Uhblehgh! Keh..ha...ha. Ugh.” Serana choked, puking up water.

“Oh my god! You’re actually awake! I almost thought that mom was just going crazy when she said you were alive!” A young voice exclaimed.

“Who..Where?” Serana asked, rubbing her eyes.

“You don’t remember me? What about him?” The voice asked, pointing to an older boy who was sitting next to him.

“You’re… That one annoying kid, and his brother. Why am I here? Couldn’t you just let me sleep?” Serana asked, scowling.

“SLEEP?! You were drowning!!!” The boy said.

“Sorry. Sleep for eternity. That’s what I meant.” Serana said, her words laced with poison.

“Snap out of it.” The older boy said.

He slapped Serana, trying to shake her out of it.

She spit on him.

“Leave me alone. I’ll kill you if you try that again. Hand me something sharp, and I promise that I’ll only slice you up.” Serana said, growling

The boys cowered, shocked by her suddenly overbearing and aggressive attitude.

An aura of hatred surrounded her, replacing the usual depressing one, and multiplying in intensity manyfold.

“F-fine. We’ll leave you alone. Let’s go. We’ll get in trouble if mom finds out we came here, anyway. We just wanted to check up on you, Serana.” The older one said.

“I never asked you to. I asked you repeatedly to leave me alone. Now I have to experience the pain of drowning. Again.” Serana said, grumbling. She curled into a ball. The aura of hatred slowly disappeared, replaced yet again with a somber and sad feeling in the otherwise peaceful ambience.

The two got up to leave, no longer frozen stiff in their seats from an icy fear.

“What are you two doing here? I told you specifically not to come here!” A woman's voice asked.

“Mom! Uh! We thought we should check up on her.” The younger boy said.

“Idiots! I’m your mother, I know what I’m talking about, so listen to me next time!..... Leave. At least you two aren’t… wait, you aren’t injured? Is she still- No, you're awake. Hello, Serana.” The mother said.

“Louise. That’s your name, right? Why did you stick your nose in my business?” Serana asked.

“Well, it’s pronounced Louise, not Louise.... But that doesn’t really matter, does it. I know you can’t die, but I know your role. You can’t just sit there. You know that too. Some of us want the world to survive, Serana. The world needs you.” Louise said, frowning.

“I want the world to end.” Serana said spitefully.

“Why haven’t you two left, yet? Go!” Louise said to her children.

The two boys left the room, leaving their mother and Serana alone.

“Serana, the world can’t end. I won’t let it.” Louise said.

“You can’t make me do anything.” Serana said.

“I’m not going to. You’re destined to save us. There isn’t a way to change that. Whether it’s because you change, realizing something about the world that’s good, or even if it’s unintentional, it will happen.” Louise said.

“Then why did you even bother to get me out of the water?” Serana asked.

“We all have our roles. Some of them affect other people. I did what I was supposed to. That’s all.” Louise said.

“So….if you didn’t have that role, you would have left me?” Serana asked, pausing for a second.

“Frankly, I don’t blame you whatsoever. I would have chosen the same if I were you. And that’s only from the few parts of your past that I know of. Knowing it alone sickens me. In fact, I wish from the bottom of my heart that I could help you pass peacefully, to finally end your suffering… But that isn’t my part in this play.” Louise replied, shaking her head.
