《To End All Wars》Chapter 3: CLOSE ENCOUNTER pt.1

Some men were checking their weapons and equipment, some striking a conversation with their comrades, others praying for a successful mission. There is no one specific way to deal with stress, especially stress that stems from a genuine possibility of death in the coming hours.
While the men were getting ready for the imminent battle. Lothar, Carsten, and Caspar were in a meeting with various company and battalion commanders, attempting to hash out the final details of their upcoming attack.
Carsten looks around the room, he frowns once he notices Caspar. Straightening out his stance, he turns and looks at Lothar.
"Your highness, I understand that this meeting is to decide on the final details before the battle."
Lothar sighs softly, realizing the reason for his loyal advisor's question as he answers.
"Yes, it is."
Carsten continues, "Then forgive me for being rude, your highness, but why is a non-commissioned officer, especially one that is not leading men, is participating in this."
Carsten was relatively flustered since he had just questioned his prince in the presence of several officers. He was not purposely making it difficult for Lothar, he was genuinely curious. It was also better for him to ask about it right now, rather than allow the officers to make up their own wild stories later. Although Lothar had commanded some small skirmishes, this was the first significant conflict he had command over. So in Carsten's mind, everything had to be perfect.
Lothar slowly swings his head from one side to the other, taking in the officer's varying expressions. He knew that some of these men were loyal enough that they would take their own lives if he asked them to. Of course, Lothar would never ask that from them. These were the men that followed him from the start of his military career. They were his true seat of power.

The others were officers that he picked up after being assigned his current position as commander, Lothar has yet to foster in them the absolute trust that he required, for that kind of faith, is only gained after showing them his true capabilities.
As he was scanning the room, he saw Caspar standing there, with what he thought was an uncharacteristically stoic expression. "Or is it that he is normally stoic, and before was an exception." Lothar thought to himself.
Lothar kept his hazel eyes intertwined with the deep abyss that was Caspar’s eyes as he addressed the rest of the officers.
"As you may or may not know, sergeant Hahn here is the number one reconnaissance unit in the 23rd infantry division, and he knows the battlefield like the back of his hand. Is that not correct, sergeant?"
Caspar, trying his best not to reveal a proud and satisfied smile for being able to shut that advisor up replies.
"As you say, your highness."

Leaves of Terranthir
DISCONTINUED - I won't be writing more of this fiction. Check out the latest post for a worlbuilding summary / final thoughts. Leaves of Terranthir is a gamelit blend of ARPG, action, fantasy, and slice of life. It's inspired in part by some of my favourite games, borrowing in themes, sense of exploration, and aesthetics from the Soulsborne and soulslike genre, mixed heavily with arpg itemization from Diablo/PoE style games. While many may remember their Soulslike experiences as nothing more than suffering, I personally loved the sense of progression, to prevail over challenges and monsters that seemed impossible to defeat at first. If any of that seems interesting to you, do check out the first chapter and let me know what you think. Cheers, and thanks for reading. Cover by Baconstrap.

Persona Non Grata
After the events of Dr. Jose Rizal's second novel "El Filibusterismo", the story follows the tale of the former students Basilio and Isagani in the aftermath of the failed assassination plot against the most powerful governing political figures in the Delos Santos residence. Now a licensed doctor and a tenured businessman, Basilio and Isagani returns to the Philippines after their 10-year venture in Spain and in the United States to spearhead a large-scale project for the Spanish crown. For the first time in the history of the country, the Spanish government has allowed Indios to pioneer major public works, and the Filipinos, seeing this as major milestone of their race, welcomed it cheering and with open arms. It was also during that same year when the new Captain-General was appointed to the Philippines following the scandal involving the outgoing Captain-General, who sent an entire battalion of Indio conscripts to be deliberately slaughtered by a gang of tulisanes led by a man going by the name 'Matanglawin' (Falcon-eye). Leonardo Montes, the incoming Captain-General, was both feared and loved by his subjects. A close friend of the king and reputed for upholding honor, discipline and goodwill among his subjects, he won the confidence of the Cortes and of the Filipino people when political unrest arose during the tenure of his predecessor when he represented the Philippines in the high courts and won the case. However, Montes, now at the early days of his tenure, is faced with a huge and pressing problem: the widespread opium trade in the Philippines. Chinese immigration to the Philippines has increased at an exponential rate since his predecessor came to power and so is the circulation of the substance within the country. And to make matters worse, strange cases of killings and abductions began to terrorize the country, with the motives of the culprit unknown...

After All
This is not my story. My story was of a world I forged by my raw will, and of you, my children, forged of my dreams. That story has long since ended. Our world was not alone. Another deity came from beyond my sight, and despite our resistance rent our world asunder. In the end, all was lost and you were gone. That I survived your passing is a testament to the cruelty of existence; I cannot forgive existence for the monstrous crime of making me go on without you. This is the story of a new world, forged by the hands of fools. That it is made from the bones of that which I most hated will bring this place no absolution. In the fullness of time, I will seize the reins of this new narrative, and I shall end it. You are lost to me, my children. I will make a funeral pyre of all reality for you, and be with you in oblivion after all. --- DocSumac here. This is a story that has been rattling around in my head for years. It's not complete, but I'm not going to let it haunt me anymore. I'm uploading what is ready, and I'll add more as I can. --- Addendum May 20, 2020: I've added the Sex tag. Not because of actual smut, but becuase of what will probably devolve into an ongoing parade of dick jokes. No point denying my nature.
