《Hiroto The Cursed Phoenix Mage》Chapter 4: Training For The Transfer Exams

Daiki immediately rushed me creating a sword out of his water magic. I did the same and we both clashed. He was able to hit my fire sword out of my hand and of course, I did that on purpose. With him lowering his guard I started to fight using hand to hand combat. Daiki went to stab me and I dodged. I swung my arm around and grabbed his wrist that was holding the sword. I lifted up my leg and kneed his forearm making him drop the weapon. He tried to counter by swinging a right hook however, I used both of my arms to block it. I then swung around using my elbow to hit him in the chest. seeing him wince in pain indicated that it did some damage. Before he could recover I went to hit his stomach with my palm. As soon as I made contact I shifted my wrist clockwise making his skin ripple. He coughed up blood and got launched back to the edge of the arena. I leaped upwards, grabbed my sword, and came clashing down onto Daiki. Daiki was able to roll out of the way barely dodging the attack.
"I see, he purposely let me knock his sword into the air to make me lower my guard," Daiki thought.
"I wont lower my guard anymore. Also, it seems I need to go all out," Daiki further thought to himself.
Daiki slowly got up, looked straight at me, and started speaking.
"You're stronger than you look," Daiki told me.
"I honestly don't care, just come already, I'm getting bored. Also, you didn't even land a blow yet," I stated. "Don't worry that will change very soon."
Daiki started unleashing all of his power. The pressure causes the ground beneath him to break and made people in the arena put up there arms to block the pressure.
"Amazing, he's a genius," the teacher yelled.
"Will Hiroto be alright," Chiyoko and Chika said worried.
When Daiki was finished I noticed he would always make a glance towards Chiyoko. Now that I think about it he was always nice to her and her only. Also, he would stare at her when he thinks he does something "cool."
"Does he like her," I thought.
"Whatever, I need to finish this fight. I can't make this a long drawn out battle," I continued.
"Hey, what the hell do you think you're doing," I said loudly. "Huh?"
"Do you think letting your mana run amok inside your body will do anything," I stated.
"Our teacher taught us that the more concentrated your mana is, the stronger it becomes," I explained.
"What the hell, I'm already concentrating my mana to the best of my abilities," Daiki thought.
"Anyways, I will show you how it should be done," I stated.
I closed my eyes and started concentrating my mana. When I opened my eyes I unleashed my aura making everyone get a shiver down there spine.
"What, I can see him but why can't I sense him there," Daiki thought.
"Why is his aura so bright and smooth. I've never seen that kind of aura," Daiki continued thinking.

"Judging by his reaction, he can't feel my presence," I thought.
"Compared to Hiroyuki's aura that he showed me before I went to bed, mine is so unsteady it's crazy. He also said that with the way I am right now, I might not pass," I told myself.
"To know that there's things out there that can make me feel excited and not bored everyday pumps me up even more," I continued.
Why am I excited? That's because everyday my school life was so boring. Sure I am the "weakest" however, that was all an act. The school work was so easy that I have trouble staying awake in class. If I'm being honest, maybe I agreed to go with Hiroyuki because I was bored. Maybe it's because I wanted to know more about my parents. Whatever the reason is, it doesn't change the fact that I'm abandoning my family. However, I'm still glad they supported my decision and I will make their lives worth while.
I started to feel excited and released all of my magic power. The air became dense and the arena started to get hot and everyone started sweating.
"What the hell is that power," everyone yelled. "Was he holding back that much!"
"That power, he could be stronger then me," the teacher stated. "What?!"
"Of course, after all he is my student," Hiroyuki said.
"Where the hell did you come from," Chiyoko yelled.
"Shhh, lets just enjoy the battle unfolding in front of us," Hiroyuki said with a smile.
Everyone went quiet and started paying attention to the fight. Without even knowing a smirk appeared on my face and I looked directly at Daiki.
"Dammit don't get cocky Hiroto," Daiki yelled.
Daiki launched water spears towards me. I stuck out my arm, turned my wrist around, and snapped. This made the spears instantly disintegrate. I immediately rushed Daiki and I was instantly in front of him.
"What when did get there," Daiki thought.
"Dammit, there's no use using hearing anymore. I'll have to focus mana in just my eyes," Daiki concluded.
In the world of magic you can focus mana in a certain place to make that area stronger. For instance, you can focus mana in your eyes to make your vision several times stronger. You can also focus mana in your limbs to make your strength stronger. Of course doing this makes the magic you use physically weaker.
Daiki went to kick me and I dodged by jumping upwards. While in the air I kicked him in the ribs and then the head. I landed on my feet and went to attack. I threw a right upper cut to his chest however, Daiki put his arms in an X formation to block it. I know it still did some damage because he coughed up a bit of saliva. The impact of the blow launched Daiki upwards and while in the air he created more spears and launched them towards me.
"Does he only know how to make spears," I told myself.
"Whatever, I'm running out of time. I need to finish this fight right away," I concluded.
I created a sword out of my magic and deflected all of the spears. I then used my speed to get behind him. I kicked him in the back making him crash into the floor. The impact caused the ground beneath him to break. I landed safely on the ground and started walking slowly towards Daiki. Daiki created a huge water ball and started yelling.

"What the hell are you," Daiki screamed.
"Does people really think the bigger it is, the stronger it is," I thought.
Daiki launched his attack towards me and I just let it hit me. It caused a small explosion and a huge smoke screen. Everyone was worried especially my sisters. Well everyone except my master Hiroyuki.
"Did I win," Daiki questioned. "Win? Don't mess with me. You're far from winning Daiki."
I walked out of the smoke completely unharmed. I started to walk towards Daiki that is barely standing.
"Dammit I need to move," Daiki told himself.
Daiki tries to move however he realized that he simply cannot.
"What, I'm out of mana," Daiki stated.
I was still walking towards him and started to speak
"Hey, you said that you would land a blow on me right," I said in a cold monotone voice. "Am I really going to lose."
"You really are nothing but an extra," I said with pity.
I coated my entire arm in fire magic making Daiki start to shiver. He was to scared to say anything and was on the brink of falling onto his knees. I punched him in the stomach making him cough up blood. The wall behind him already started to crumble from the pressure. He should be fine with a little bit of rest, hopefully. Since I exceeded my limits I passed out and when I woke up I was greeted by my family and Hiroyuki. After I recovered I immediately went to airport with Hiroyuki. Moments before having to board the plane I had a final conversation with my family.
"You better visit you got that," Chiyoko and Chika said simultaneously.
"Yeah yeah, don't worry I know," I replied.
I was quite surprised when Daiki showed up to send me off.
"Sorry for everything," Daiki said while bowing.
"I will except your apology if you stay away from Chiyoko." I demanded.
"Huh, why," Daiki yelled. "You think I don't know you like her."
"Every time you think you say something "Amazing" you look at my sister for a reaction. Not to mention she is the only person your nice too. I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed but I'm not that dense," I explained.
Daiki was a blushing mess while Chiyoko had a small tint of red on her face. Hiroyuki and my parents were looking at me with a face that perfectly says "but you are that dense."
"I don't care if I'm being overprotective, if I don't approve then it's not allowed," I continued.
"What, do you have a sister complex or something," Daiki said loudly.
"What's a sister complex," I asked, confused.
"A sister complex is when the brother," Daiki said before being cut off. "Say another word and your dead."
"Now that I think about it, mom and dad said that my sisters has a "brother complex" can you tell me what that means," I asked Daiki.
"Huh, what," Daiki yelled. "You both have a brother complex."
"Mom, dad, why did you tell him that," Chiyoko and Chika yelled.
"He doesn't know what it means so I'm pretty sure you're okay," the parents pointed out.
"He looks like a normal person, what made you both get a brother complex for him," Daiki questioned.
"So what? Stay out of this," my sisters said back.
The three of them continued arguing and Hiroyuki was just on the side watching everything that was unfolding in front of him. Before anyone could continue the conversation it was time for Hiroyuki and I to leave.
"Whatever, I could ask Hiroyuki what the word means on the flight," I said softly.
"Promise me you wont," Chiyoko demanded.
"Okay, however, you cannot date anyone without my permission," I demanded back.
"Are you her parent or something," Hiroyuki said.
"Stay out of this," we both demanded.
"Fine I promise," Chiyoko agreed while pouting.
"This also goes for you Chika," I said before leaving.
"Fine, I agree with your terms," Chika said sad.
Hiroyuki and I got onto the plane and for some reason it was only us.
"Hey, why is it only us on the plane," I asked.
"Oh this is my plane," Hiroyuki answered.
"Of course it is," I said sighing.
"Oh yeah I forgot to tell you something," Hiroyuki said.
"Well, what is it," I questioned. "You're going to take the transfer exam not the entrance exam."
"Why is it easier," I asked.
"No, in fact it's several times harder," Hiroyuki replied with a smile.
"What, are you trying to make me fail," I said loudly.
"Actually, the exams is in three days and you're not prepared for it. So I'm going to train you for a month," Hiroyuki explained.
"Why not longer," I continued questioning.
"That's because the transfer exam is only a month and a half after the entrance exam. After a month of training you will have a two week break before the exam," Hiroyuki further explained.
"I see, well you're well prepared," I stated. "Of course, after all your the person I've been looking for."
For the rest of the flight we had conversations and we even played a chess game. When we finally landed I was joyed to have proper training with Hiroyuki. We both exited the plane and was heading to the training spot.
"So I will be training for a month," I told myself.
"Interesting, I hope that his training will actually work to break my one minute timer I have on my magic," I thought.
"Hiroto, hurry up and get over here," Hiroyuki said loudly. "Yes sir!"
I started running towards Hiroyuki ready to train.
"Well then, I wonder what will happen in the future. No, there's no point thinking about the future. What's important right now is the present," I said to myself.

Homecoming | A Chronicles of Ascension Story
When Jethen was captured by slavers, his childhood was torn from him and left shattered half a world away. When he finds himself back home decades later, by methods he does not fully understand, he finds that the life he has lived has changed him far more than he knew. In a home he no longer knows. Places and people at the same time familiar and foreign, he must decide - stay and help with his parent's business, or return to the land that remade him and the family he made there. --------- Homecoming started as just a short story to break an episode of writers block. It has since morphed well beyond that into a novel in it's own right, and may well end up with a sequel. The writing of Homecoming became a bit of a self induced challenge to improve my initial, first brush, writing quality. Each chapter was written raw, given a once over read and edit, and then posted. In this way I am forcing myself to write better from the start. I do hope you enjoy the story and will leave a comment or review, and if you see an issue, feel free to let me know as well. I know it is not nearly perfect, and it will get a full and proper edit once I am done. Never hurts to fix things along the way though. As an additional note. The story has undergone a structural rework and has been reposted in an updated structure and sequence of chapters. If you have read this story already, I invite you to do so again in this new structure.
