《Eternal Luck》A Profounder's student

(I remember it all. The grand war. Her last words. At the end of my rope, I ignited my bloodline to cast universal magic. Before I knew it, my mind was back in Acadia at primary school.) "Did you pass the science test, Ryatt?" asked the bespeckled girl with auburn hair seated to my left.

"Did anyone pass the science test? It was all about next week's lesson," I complained with a calm expression. "My mom's going to kill me..."

(News flash: I always hated this school. Major Acadia was the type of school that you see on broadcast shows. A bunch of preppy aristocrats whose parents do their best to spoil them, and a splash of commoner students. It was strange to watch the young me from my own perspective. However, I soon noticed I could look beyond my own perspective.)

"You don't look very concerned," the bespeckled girl giggled as she packed up her bags.

I just shrug. For reasons my younger self was unaware of, I could never really express the same depth of emotions as others. It's not that I don't feel any emotions. My thoughts are constantly more expressive than my exterior. There was this majestic image in my mind that constantly kept me level.

No one but my older sister could hope to understand this.

It was another day in class, normal as ever. How many days just like this one had I spent in Major Acadia? I had already lost count.

"Do you think you passed, Marcus?" the bespeckled girl asked another student as I strapped my bad to my back.

The bell indicating the end of the school day still lingered in the air.

"Barely. I bet I got low marks because I didn’t really understand that part about advanced science," the boy named Marcus said.

"You mean the stuff about formulation?" the girl asked curiously. "Well, you should study more. That's crucial information."

"Pfft, yeah right." Marcus laughed mockingly. "That’s stuff for the hero society. How would we be able to use that when we work humble jobs in the future?" "Don’t tell her that, Marcus! Thanks to Wonder Corporation and the World Government’s efforts, even the untalented and humble can defend themselves in this world ruled by the strong." "Tsk, Wonder Corporation," I grimaced to myself as I listened to the conversation going on around me as we walked down the white hallways of the academy, and out into the grand courtyard.

Wonder Corporation was the company my step-father worked for. They were the leading specialists on technology in the digital age. By using mana as a source of electricity they were able to revolutionize modern society in marvelous ways. The world used to unified by a single all-powerful monarchy. However, the continents were now split, and three different factions controlled this side of the world. Wonder Corporation had so far managed to partner with all three of those factions. "But isn’t that going against the son of heaven’s will?" asked one boy who seemed to be constantly adjusting something on his uniform. "The humble are untalented. That's the mandate of heaven. All humans are born humble, but the untalented are meant to remain meek and offer faith to the Supreme Plato Emperor. The World Government is staging a coup, and it's only a matter of time before the son of heaven takes action." I sneered in my heart hearing that the son of heaven would take action. If the previous conqueror of the world was able to change the state of things, would they have progressed so far? Besides, what was heaven and what was hell? Kids my age were often naive and I disdained them a bit, but my impassive face made them presume I was just ignoring them.

"Well, the teacher said the World Government already took over the previous commandery, so New Origin City is already no longer a part of the dynasty. We are now a province of Acadia. Worship of the son of heaven is something the World Government discourages," another little girl said to the group.

This was another child I had seen before but never spoken to. I mean, these aristocratic students were so pretentious. I greatly preferred the company of my commoner friends.

"I know I, for one, aced the formulation portion of the test," said a loudmouth pretty boy with platinum blond hair. "Wonder Corporation helped my third uncle become a hero! Now that our family has another hero, I’m learning about advanced science at home too. My mom says we'll be moving to Kairo Mountain in the future." "Lucci, is that forreal? Hey, I heard if you get full marks on this science test, then the academy will recommend you to one of the powers of the mystic grounds. Do you think you'll get into an academy in Kairo Mountain?" "Hmph, of course. What could possibly stop me?" The boy sneered aggressively. "Once our guild becomes a sect or clan, we'll be a major too. Who can call us mere pirates then?"

"Yeah, but do you think those powers would be as tolerant as the schools in New Origin City? Life would definitely be miserable if you aren’t strong." I said casually as I stepped past the arrogant youth, and dashed over to my friends. -------

"Drakel..." The arrogant youth gnashed his teeth as he watched Ryatt Drakel run off to his dirty commoner friends. "No matter...let's see how long you can stay so much after tonight, heh..." -------

(It's a strange power, this ability to see time through different perspectives. It really helps me see the big picture. I understand more than ever why they fear us. Anyway, I figure if I play the role of spectator until a key moment arises I can make a difference. After all, the young me had no way of knowing what I know. But if I made a move too soon, it may backfire. Time magic is incredibly sensitive. I decided to see how many perspectives I could explore for now.)

It was another day at school, like any other. Major Acadia Primary school had a campus that spanned across half a kilometer. The buildings were all modern, made largely from stone and wood. After all the classes ended, the young students packed up their bags and headed out the main gates as they started their commutes home. While a majority of the students were living in campus dormitories, many couldn’t afford the tuition. These students, who were looked down on and often humiliated, had no choice but to leave the campus and return to the outer city.

Major Acadia Primary school was the number one academy for young scholars without a power base. There were mighty monsters, magi, and gods who practiced magic and wonders in the world outside. However, most ordinary people were completely unable to come in contact with that world.

These powerless people were known as The Humble. -------

"Did any of you see the broadcast that came out yesterday?" a short, green-haired youth with glasses walked backward down the busy street as he talked to the seven friends in front of him. He had freckles and a wide grin that looked inherently mischievous.

(Major Acadia Primary School Student, Mikah. He and his twin sister were my best friends from a very early age.)

Although the two youths walking behind Mikah had altered their uniforms fashionably, they all wore the same uniform. Hovering cars zipped up and down the road as the fellows chatted on the sidewalk outside the academy.

"Mikey, be careful!" a slightly taller green-haired girl berated softly. She had brown eyes and cute features, with braids in her hair, and looked 80% similar to Mikah. "You act like you’ve been waiting all day to talk to Lucky and Axel about this. Try not to get run down first."

(Major Acadia Primary School Student, Micayle. Mikah's twin sister.)

"Hehe, sorry, Micky," Mikah scratched his nose when his twin sister scolded him. He turned around obediently and fell into step with a handsome boy whose face showed no expression. This boy had shoulder-length dreadlocked black hair, hazel eyes, and was the only one as short as Mikah. Despite his size, this student was markedly more sturdy than his friends. Mikah always felt safer when he stood next to this friend of his, "Anyway, did you see it, Lil’ Luck?"

(Major Acadia Primary School Student, Ryatt Drakel. I was a handsome little guy.)

"You know that Marc doesn’t let me access any of the terminals at home. My mom doesn’t watch anything, either," Ryatt shrugged his shoulders as he replied in a resigned manner.

He knew that his friends preferred to use his nickname when addressing him. Ryatt was okay with this because he also liked to be called in this way.

"Isn’t that only because you broke the wonder-mirror he gifted you? Lucky, you need to get a new communicator! Would you miss any broadcasts if you had one?" another girl in the group laughed.

"You guys, little Riot doesn’t support Wonder Corp anymore, remember?" laughed a young man with short red hair. "Remember in class earlier? He even told the teacher he would never own a wonder-mirror for as long as he lived."

All the other kids laughed at this comment. Ryatt shrugged again. He knew that wonder-mirrors were marvel inventions that allowed people to communicate face-to-face over large distances, amongst many other uses. One such use was watching public broadcasts. Ryatt knew that most of his friends here also missed the broadcast for various reasons. After all, their families were relatively poor, and most couldn’t afford a broadcast device. Ryatt was okay with being the butt of today’s jokes because they were all in similar situations.

As for acquiring a wonder-mirror? He didn’t want to. Was image transfer even that difficult to accomplish? Not for the young Ryatt Drakel! He already had the power of ancient science on his side.

"I saw it!" said a handsome youth with long wild hair standing next to Ryatt. He had long dark hair and stood a head taller than the rest. He was tall for his age and looked strong, with well-developed muscles despite his small frame. He carried a wooden katana on his back and had bandages around his wrists. "They say that a real Profounder is going to speak at the central plaza in a few days. Baba told me some people are already camping out in the plaza, even though that profounder hasn’t said when he would speak exactly. They say the profounder’s going to pick a few humble students and try and see if they have the potential to become a hero or profound life-form! I’m going to go take a look when that time comes!"

(Major Acadia Primary Student, Axel Harding. To this day, Axel is one of the truest comrades.)

"Yeah, Axel, you would definitely get chosen. All of us are just humble humans, but you could become a true hero."

"Haha, I don’t dare to say that the profounder will choose me. But I always wanted to become a Body Former. This could be a chance…" Axel almost seemed as if he were speaking to himself as a small fire seemed to light in his eyes.

"Wondergods…those are truly scary…" said Micayle with a wary look in her eyes. She tightened the strap on her bag anxiously. It was almost like she thought that made her safer.

"What’s a wondergod?" asked the tall boy called Marcus. He was the only aristocrat among the group outside of Ryatt. "The other guys keep saying that too."

"You don’t know?" Mikah and Axel both asked, astonished. Aristocrats normally knew way more than they did about such things. Marcus just shook his head impatiently.

"You know what heroes are, right?" asked Mikah with evident excitement. Could this be Mikah’s favorite subject to teach?

"Heroes? That’s one of those mythical realms of power, right? Stuff like his majesty, the Supreme Plato Emperor, and the pharaohs of old," replied Marcus after thinking. He crossed his arms in contemplation again before saying, "As far as I know, everyone is born at the Humble Realm. Only by learning how to sense the power that exists all around us can one absorb it and transform the body. That’s how heroes are born, right? Heroes live longer than the humble, right? And then heroes can become magi, right?"

"Well, almost," Mikah chortled. He sneered at his friend, feeling superior for knowing more than an aristocrat. Mikah and Marcus bickered for a bit before Mikah explained carefully.

I smirked, having long since known what heroes are. My older sister told me long ago that practicing a doctrine was something only pharaohs could do. The stages went Hero, Magus, Pharaoh. Pharaohs were known as 'ageless' and could really live for millions of years. They were the truly supreme rulers of this world. Marcus marveled as all of this was more or less explained to him by Mikah and Axel, with me taking over at the end.

"That's why the Supreme Plato Emperor could only be called supreme. He is a True Pharaoh. The powerful pharaohs are the rulers of the three planes and thirty-three skies. Right or wrong?" I asked my friends.

"Right!" Everyone replied in unison.

This sentence was public knowledge even in the humble cities. What were the three planes and thirty-three skies? Most didn’t know at all. After all, even if the knowledge was public, not everyone could afford to have an understanding of it. It was inconceivably difficult for a human man to become a pharaoh. Actually, it was somewhat difficult for a humble man to become a hero. Forget becoming a pharaoh; most heroes would never even become profound life-forms!

"So, you have the heroes that study that the path of technology, and then you have heroes who struggle to become profound life-forms. But becoming a profound life-form is incredibly hard. It’s no different than a complete evolution of body and soul!" Axel had taken over the explanation at this point. He spoke fervently, with a fiery passion in his eyes. Axel clenched his fist and closed his eyes as he continued, "Wondergods are totally different. Unlike heroes, most wondergods were born naturally from the twilight itself. The twilight!"

"I don’t know what that is either!" said the feisty girl next to Marcus, Sabrina. Marcus felt smug, seeing as he at least knew about the twilight.

"Haha, sorry, sorry," Axel laughed, feeling embarrassed. "In other words, they were given birth by the chaotic source of power that created the world! Wondergods are profound life-forms from the moment they are born, so they’ve never experienced being humble or heroic."

"What?!" Marcus and Sabrina were both stunned by this description.

Marcus wasn’t totally convinced, "How do you even know all this? They never taught us this in school."

A creature born from the chaos that created the world? In science class, they did indeed teach that the world was created from chaos. Actually, a massive explosion of chaos was said to have given birth to the world as the humble knew it.

"Such an event also gave birth to other creatures?" Sabrina couldn’t help but be stunned by what her friends were saying. She had to ask, "Are these creatures as strong as the world? I don’t understand."

"No, not necessarily," Axel crossed his arms and replied sagely. "Some are born as profound life-forms. They would only be comparable in power to a profounder. But they have that power from the moment they are born."
