《Gary the Mimic》Ch.9 A boring fight
Advertisement
After a little while of walking my long journey begins to get more distance from the kidnapers. I don't think I'll be able to escape them if I get caught again. I quickly chose a path and went forward. It was a long time before I hit another open area and I nearly fell over from exhaustion but the time spent was cut down to zero thanks to the air mana eater skill. Ignoring the pain from walking, I need to improve faster. The fact I didn't even scratch that big guy shows it.
I quickly start to look around the area; it's another forested area. I soon found my hunting grounds and another base that's hidden. Getting to work on eating as much as I can sheep, slime, goats, wolves that are alone, anything that's easy enough to kill and is low risk. Yet after three days of gaining I started to get impatient. The facts are I level too slow and I'm not getting any skills so I want to take on the bear.
I need to come up with a plan. Attacking it at the water is my best chance but the true problem is the size difference, I'm not even that big I'd guess my height is 30cm at best. Although that means I can maneuver and sneak up on it better if I get hit once my life is over. Now I need to abuse my mobility while getting hits in when I can to exhaust it and I can keep up the stamina battle thanks to my new skill.
Going to a hiding spot behind a tree I wait for it to show up. I Constantly debated whether I should do this because of the high risk but soon the time came. I quietly snuck up staying in what I assumed was a blind spot. As soon as I got in range of a good hit I took the chance and aimed for the legs like I did with the wolf.

The first hit was mine but it didn't do much damage. The bear quickly turned around but I followed its turn to stay hidden and took another swipe making the cut a little bigger. This happened for a little while until it finally learned and did a bait which I fell for and ended up in its view. The bear took a swipe and I backed off. It didn't want to let off the pressure, clearly annoyed with the few cuts I gave it. It fell into my plan, this is going better than planned if I can keep dodging. I even got a few swipes in well on the front legs while they swung at me. After a long while of cat and mouse the bear started to get tired. All the cuts on the arms and legs left it becoming slower and slower until It collapsed.
That was a lot easier than I expected and a lot more boring it just kept swinging at me.
I poke it a couple times well, keeping a little bit of distance. So far no movement but I didn't get any exp which means it's alive. I quickly put it down feeling a little sorry that I killed it with a 1000 small cuts. Not wanting to wait a moment, I drag it into the forest, out of sight of the other animals. I made it bitesize but the process was long due to the tough hide but it gets done. The flavor is similar to venison but sweeter and the texture is crude and rough, not a very good combo but not unwelcome.

[ prideful bear : the sheer size, power, and toughness of the bear is immense but their intelligence is very low and they never run from a battle only seeing an option of food or territory claiming]

So even the system calls them stupid and gluttony worked… the gluttony skill seems a little too good.
After a while of resting from the fight I felt better being able to take down something that is giant compared to me meant a lot more food options were on the table for later.
I move back towards the water and hunt down a few smaller monsters to calm me down while still getting experience. Before I knew it another skill was ready to evolve and it's one that was holding me back.
[Skill digest is ready to evolve.]
I quickly looked through the menu hoping to get rid of the conflict with gluttony and adventchully found it, smart digest. It lets the user pick what part to digest and what it to digest first. I went through an options menu for the skill and made it so skills take first priority. As soon as I got the skill I wanted to try it out. Getting to the water I did an experiment. The smaller monsters would freeze and not be able to move. Bigger ones like the sheep kept a fair distance away well hostile ones like wolves seemed a bit aggressive. The only negative is that sneaking up was harder but with trance being used it even made the wolves freeze up in fear. Getting this skill made hunting way easier. With a day well done I decide to rest.

The Errant Otherworlder Watanabe
“In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death, taxes and trucks whom transport men to other worlds.” Meet our titular protagonist Haruto Watanabe, a man who has all the markings of a good protagonist for a generic portal fantasy story. As an overworked office worker, to escape from the grips of crippling capitalist alienation, he had taken up to reading many stories where young men like him were transported to other worlds and enjoyed their lives at a most leisurely pace. Armed with genre-awareness and (what he believes to be) a marketable personality which would make him an easy audience self-insert, he longed for the day the isekai express would take him to his long-awaited adventure to another world. When the fateful day came, where the fair yet harsh mistress that is the fabled truck took Watanabe on one last date to the other side, he was most ready to escape his previous life, ready to embark on an errant so great he’d be most overpowered, his heroics so exceptional and his harem so vast that they would barely fit ten or twenty volumes of an overly long novel made by a desperate author looking for quick cash. Lo and behold however, Watanabe instead found himself in a low fantasy world which lacked severely in the department of any game-like systems, cheat skills or easily charmed damsels in distress. In a setting so antithetical to his established genre savviness or any attempts at power fantasy, how will a man like Watanabe, lacking in strength, wits and courage, manage to survive in a land most foreign to him? This is my first time trying to share to the wider world what I’ve written, and I hope you’ll enjoy reading the errantry of Watanabe as much as I enjoy writing about them. I'll be posting one chapter per week on Sundays, along with extra chapters whenever I get the chance to write more than usual.
