《NeverMore》The Soap Eater [Part 3]

One side of her face was stripped raw of its skin. It was covered with oozing flesh and this brown liquid that sizzled and bubbled. With a twist in my stomach I realized that it was the liquid that was eating away at her face. She opened her mouth and just kept screaming. It was horrible, especially since the motion made the thinned out flesh of her cheek tear. As she kept on screaming in agony, the ghastly slit that opened at the corner of her mouth only grew wider and wider. That bubbling brown liquid was slowly dripping down her face. Her eyelid was already gone, and the sizzling liquid seeped into her eye socket to eat away at the soft orb of her eyeball. It was as if someone had taken a cheese grater to her face before splashing her with acid. My stomach gave a queasy churn as I realized that's exactly what the liquid was: acid. It was corroding Amanda's flesh right off of her bones. Some of it was on her neck as well, burning away the skin to reveal the bleeding muscles and the stringy tendons beneath. What the fuck is happening? What the fuck is happening? WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING? Terror made my legs weak, I couldn't conjure any strength to stand. The only thing I could do was remain right where I was and watch as a scene straight from horror movies played out right in front of me. Amanda brought her hands up and clutched at her face. Her hands also had acid on them, so much acid that even the white tip of her wrist bone was poking out from the mottled flesh of her hands. Meanwhile Scotty was scrambling to his feet. He gagged, and more a string of clear liquid dribbled down from his mouth, hissing as it met the flesh of his chin. With a start I realized that Scotty was puking acid. There was no better way to put it. As I watched, horrified, Scotty hunched over and gagged, his spine undulating with the effort as another wave of painful contortions wracked his body. The acid spewed out of his ruined mouth, clear and colorless, only when it hit the flesh of his face did it begin to bubble. I looked at Amanda again. The brown liquid plastered to her face must've been clear at some point, but as the acid liquefied her flesh, it also mixed with the liquefied bits of Amanda, turning the colorless acid into the sickening brown color that I'm looking at now. Scotty heaved again, right onto the carpet. Acid hissed as it hit the artificial fibers. And oh god the smell. I can't eve put a finger on what it's supposed to smell like. I've never smelled anything so horrendous. The entire lower half of Scotty's face was melted by acid. Especially his mouth. He had no lips left, so his teeth were exposed like a hideous anatomy illustration come to life. Something fell from his mouth, and with a jolt of horror and disgust I realized it was a piece of his tongue, bloody and wet with drool and acid. Scotty got up and took great, lurching steps towards the bathroom and yanked the door open, then he stumbled back and picked Amanda up. Her screams have gone silent by now, and she lay limp in Scotty's arms like a broken rag doll. Scotty brought her to the bathroom. When they were both out of my sight, I was finally able to calm down. I gave my self a few minutes, took some deep breaths and gagged as the noxious scent of melted flesh his my taste buds. But it seemed to help. After a while I grabbed the door and used it to get up off the floor. When my legs have finally stopped shaking I let go of the door and made my way to the bathroom. Scotty had put Amanda into the tub before turning the overhead shower on. Water rained down on her limp form, slumped at the edge of the tub. The water washed away the acid, and flushed the blood off of the open wounds. Pink colored drops of water, mixed with Amanda's blood, splattered all over the side of the tub and out on to the ground. Bloody water was also gathering in the tub around her prone form before slowly slipping down the drain. The side of her face that was still intact looked relaxed, her one good eye was closed as if in bliss. Scotty had his back facing me, but he turned at the sound of me entering the bathroom. The bottom half of his face was still skinless, but he was chewing on something. I looked at the mint-green bar in his hands and all of a sudden it was as if a key turned in the lock with a neat click. Memories came flooding back.

Many Minded
Synopsis: Issa Pyxis, Spacer orphan and illegal heretic, graduated from living on the streets to running with a gang years ago, but now it looks like that’s all going to change. Her inheritance, more specifically who—or what—she is, is catching up with her, and on a planet with the Emperor’s inquisitors slinking around in every shadow, nowhere is safe and no one can be trusted. What will she do? A cyberpunk story about identity, loneliness, covert infiltration, evil dystopias, and much more! Features: - Cyborgs and cyberpunk galore - This is indented to be somewhat “rational” and “hard” Sci-Fi story - Original Fiction however parts of my worldbuilding are inspired by other Sci-Fi stories (duh) Rationale: The future is cool, AIs are kickass, and questions about consciousness are simultaneously existential and yet unanswered. To me, this story is a vehicle for exploring these topics, and also, I wanted to write a story where the protagonist was unafraid of themselves and where their self is more like a git-repo than a meat computer. Disclaimer: This story primarily takes place in what we’d describe as a “cyberpunk dystopia” with some extra technocracy, autocracy, and religious fervor thrown into the mix, so there will be some “grittiness” in this story. Caveat emptor. Also, [insert your favorite boilerplate “views expressed” disclaimer here]. I shouldn’t need to say this, but the main character and other characters in my story can be wrong on occasion (gasp!) and the way they view the world isn’t always objective truth (if such a thing even exists) nor do their views and opinions necessarily reflect the views of me, the author. Humans Are Evil (completed)
A world of magic, where empires rise and fall, and where civilization is never safe from the perpetual menace of the monsters that roam the land. In this volatile landscape Fera is reborn and must adapt to this new and ever-changing world. She will grasp at whatever opportunities she finds to escape her unfortunate birth as an orphan. Either excelling, or wallowing in self-pity, Fera will question if this world of magic was as fantastical as she initially thought. Note: The story is technically a litRPG, but much less like a game and more akin to real life, for example obtaining a class does not give free skills to the individual, it’s the other way around! Skills are what unlock your class, so an individual who learns magic skills will unlock mage classes, classes then provide passive buffs and stats, in my opinion this makes everything feel more earned so that the power levels in the world are more natural, rather than every single random person being a powerhouse.
