《Stress Reliever》Drafted

I come to your window at midnight. The moon outlines your sleeping figure on the bed. The blanket rises and falls with your chest.

I wait. Hopefully, there would be no need for my intervention.

Then, there it comes, the trappings of a dream laced with the poison of a nightmare. Silently, I enter your room. Carefully, almost surgically, I grasp the nightmare and pull it away from you.

Your expression tightens, and so does my heart.

It's like peeling off a scab. I coax, and pull, and scrabble to find a nook where my claws can find purchase. It's a tiring affair, but not one I am not rewarded for.

The cloth of the night terror I take in my hands. It's a living thing, and it swirls and presses against my palm, trying to run back to you. But all I do is take out my needles, and knit.

I watch your smiling face and knit your nightmares away. What a reward, I think to myself, to be able to see your smile. Oh, soon you'll wake, and maybe you'll be grumpy, if not a bit woozy from your sleep. At this moment, however, you grin. And that is all that is needed to keep me going.

It's a beautiful night, but remember. Nightmares vanish in due time, as the sun slides into the sky.

Goodnight.
