《The Origins and Adventures of Jogger Colt》Chapter 2

It is my third day as being a newborn foal. At first, I was shocked to acknowledge that bearded-ugly man as my father. I can't help but think about my features.
But thankfully, I've got a beautiful mother, Gemma. Oh, by the way, my father's name is Jog. My name is a combination of theirs.
Mother kept talking about how they argue every day with my father because of my name. And as I could see for these past few days, mother had the upper hand in this relationship. Why? Because Mother got to name their children.
My elder sister Emma called me, "Jog! Dinner is ready!"
With difficulty, I stood up from where I sat. I gallop and almost tripped my self. I sighed, becoming familiar with my body proved to be much more strenuous than it seems. My subconscious got familiar with the human body. Right now, as a centaur making my four hooves to move in sync is tougher than turning both hands in opposite directions.
Being a Centaur had its perks as well. The error they saw on my blue screen made both my parents excited. They explained to me lots of details after that. A newborn foal with a teenager's intelligence is unheard of before. Except, of course, the geniuses coming from the Royal races. That is where their name Royal races came to be.
But my race is on the lower string. The Centaur race is said to be born to become mighty warriors. They are a mighty-force on the battlefield. As they grow old, strength and vitality level goes up side by side. The other stats, on the other hand, tend to be left behind.
Oh, forgot about that agility is just right behind the two main stats of a Centaur. Dexterity is not a cup of tea for them. Making things by hand is not their thing. Then comes the two, Intelligence and Luck. Average adult Centaurs have 6 Intelligence at the maximum, with Luck coming behind to 3.

Let me explain first these five stats.
Strength - determines the individuals' ability to lift objects. At a higher level, it gives one the ability to lift things much bigger than the individuals' body.
Agility - determines the individuals' ability to move. At a higher level, it gives one the ability to move past the sound barrier.
Dexterity - determines the individuals' ability to make things by hand. At a higher level, one could be able to create status-oriented equipment.
Intelligence - determines the individuals' ability to think. At a higher level, it gives mana and the ability to use spells.
Vitality - determines the individuals' energy. At a higher level, an individual would not be tired due to higher stamina.
Me as a Centaur, I understood how Strength and Vitality come hand in hand. With their larger body with armors and swords, having a high strength but low vitality would be a disaster. If one ever had that kind of stat, he/she would collapse due to exhaustion.
Let's go to my other stats then. With my Dexterity at a 1, there is no complaining about that. I am not good at making stuff. One time, I notice my father's gaze sending signals my way. Wearing his blacksmith apron and hammer on hand, I could already see my pending doom.
Now comes my two higher stats. Runner up is Intelligence. A Centaur having a five at the get-go is unprecedented. Again, unprecedented. As my mother explained to me, she gave me some comparisons.
One example is humans. Yes, humans. Why didn't I became a human! Coming back, a human baby at birth had only one stat. Compared to me, who had 24 points. In my opinion, it is understandable. A human baby at birth, it just cries, breath, drink milk, cry again. A Centaur, on the other hand, could walk. Hell, I could even speak.

Humans are slightly above Centaurs on the Race ladder. It is because of their ability to grow and adapt to situations. They are even a candidate to become a Royal race. But because of their low lifespan, they are deemed unqualified to become one.
Having a high Intelligence as a Centaur's a good promise, my mother said. I could become a magician due to it. I may not undergo the tradition of becoming a warrior. I may become the only one in the whole race to have this kind of opportunity.
Now comes Luck.
Luck - is the ability to determine an individuals' success or failure on every occasion. Higher levels contribute to likable success. Lower levels may be prone to failures.
That is why my father is determined to teach me blacksmithing. With my ability to think, the likelihood of success, I could also become a mean blacksmith.
At the moment, everything is undecided. I still got some dinner to eat. My parent's house does not have any floor. Centaurs like to have their hooves always on the ground and dirt.
Inside the dining room, I could see Mother and Father sitting on the opposite ends of the table. Emma on Mother's right. I sat opposite to her.
In my three days in this world, I have never seen meat on the table. Every meal is composed of vegetables. Especially the well-endowed carrots, given by the neighbors to commemorate my birth.
My father is always loud, talking to Emma about how her day goes. Mother just sat there eating elegantly, smiling at me. Emma just got home from school. She looked tired, carrying bags under her eye.
I swiftly finish my meal, then went back to bed. Thankfully Centaurs sleep in a bed. I kneeled, making myself comfortable. I then leaned on the bed. A desk is what I call it. Nonetheless, I felt comfy, and soundlessly went to sleep.
That night, as I went to bed. The trio from my household. They had some serious discussions that may or may not affect my future. There I am sleeping soundly, unaware of my tomorrow.
