《High Tides to Low Clouds (ft. Miss Catherine)》Dear Teach

Dear Teach,

I know I'm not the top of all A+ student you hoped to see. I'm probably a little out of your league and with graduation and the school year ending, I don't think we'll have another chance to see each other. But this isn't something I want to keep to myself forever.

I never thought the moment I laid onto your shining emerald eyes that my heart would go overdrive and my mind to overclock. You may have noticed I had a hard time keeping eye contact with you and it may have looked as though you were fighting for my attention which isn't true at all. Your upbeat yet soothing voice was a gift from heaven and all your words made its way into my ears as they tuned out from any other source whenever you let yourself heard, whether you were explaining advanced algebra with a's, b's, x's and y's, or telling us about a crazy experience you had back when you were attending school and the terrible pancake accident that had happened. I still can't forget about that story.

I couldn't make eye contact with you because whenever I did, my blood pressure would go wild. My surroundings would disappear leaving only you and me in the remains. My eyes would rapidly shift side to side, up and down to change focus and calm myself from being in the presence of the closest thing to an angel. Anybody to have you as their teacher are no doubt amazingly lucky to the point that they could trade in their luck for a jackpot at the casino, and much more on top of it. But if luck was a commodity I wouldn't trade it. I'm more than happy for where my luck has taken me.

Even with my not super stellar performance you still praised me with the little notes you gave me next to the marks on my assignments and tests. You know I started out as though I was going to be a dent in your career but I couldn't stand myself from letting that happen. I studied harder than I ever did in my life just to leave a good impression. You took notice of my efforts. My heart skipped a beat or 2 whenever you commented on my better than average performance. I had to go far and beyond I ever had to be able to experience the pleasant jolts your words gave me.

You had a smile that lifted my world even when times were low. A radiant smile that brightened even the darkest classroom. Some of the other students would comment how you had the best smile out of everyone around but I don't believe they appreciate it as much as I do. Whoever comes home to be greeted by a smile like yours should realize that they have a treasure in their life the world cannot compare to.

It's hard for me to accept that I won't be able to see you anymore, and with it the classes I always came anticipated for. The homework and assignments that I'd stay up late to finish. The tests and exams I had to work on even harder than anything else. And for you to direct your smile, your voice, your presence to no one but me when I was at the center of your attention during those times. Whenever that happened my internal temperature would reach the boiling point. Of course I did my best not to let that be noticed.

I almost thought this life would go on forever, but of course nothing does. Maybe there will be a moment in life I will get the chance to meet you again. Outside the school and in the world beyond. Until then, thank you for being my Teach.
