“Can you sell them and donate the money to charity?” asked Grandma Chen

“Are you sure? They are your prized possessions” asked Annabelle with a worried look “Last time one of the maids was cleaning up, she knocked over one of your dolls breaking it. You were so upset that you wouldn’t eat or come out of your room for a week. Should we keep the dolls and wait until your memories come back before we do anything else?”

Grandma Chen looked around the room and even though every part of her wanted to say ‘Burn it down. Demolish everything’, the nicer part of her heart urge her to say, “Okay, I’ll leave this room for you to decide. In the meanwhile, I cannot sleep or stay here for another second. Is there another room I can use.”

Half an hour later and with the help of several strong maids, they lifted Grandma Chen onto a stretcher and moved her to the guest room. ‘They must be trained nurses’ thought Grandma because she didn’t feel any pain while they were moving her. It was so smooth and stable that she could have fallen asleep on the way. They tucked her into the new bed and made sure everything she needed was within reach before leaving her alone.

Grandma felt a lot better in the new room. The design was better than the old room, but not that much. Instead of everything pink, it was everything purple, but since purple was her favorite color, Grandma was loving the new room. After a quick nap, Grandma woke up feeling refreshed and ready to figure out the mess that was her life. For the next couple of hours, she was trying to familiarize herself with the current situation.

The date and year was the same as when she passed away. It was March of 2020, but the world she was in was not the same world she came from. It was an alternate universe. Everything of great importance from the politics of the world to modern technology to even popular tourist attractions were the same. The differences between her world and the current world came in small and quirky details. If she took her phone and turn it over, instead of an apple, it was a banana. She had a banana brand phone. Say that three times and maybe all your wishes will come true.

Knowing that this was not an unfamiliar world was of great relief for Grandma Chen. She still wasn’t sure about why she was here, but knowing that she was no longer lost in this world meant she could survive and take care of herself no matter what happens next. She can’t help but be relieve that she wasn’t thrown into one of those crazy plotlines she read about in the past. No martial art world. No crazy man eating wild animals. No feudal political plots. Sure, she was the type of rich and spoiled princess she used to hate, but at least rich brats were something she was used to seeing.

The body she was occupying, Chrysanthemum Wu, was the daughter and the heir to her father, Richard Wu’s multi-billion real estate business. With locations in most major cities such as New York, London, Paris, Beijing, Hong Kong, and Tokyo, his business and investment will continue to grow even if he decided to retire and do nothing for the rest of his life.

While was Grandma reading about his business online, she muttered to herself, “Tsk, what kind of father is this. Buried in his work and obsessed with making money when money is the last thing he need right now.”

She sighed to herself, “This poor girl. She had such a lonely life. No parents in her life. No friends.”

After a moment of contemplation, “But, what am I supposed to do here? I can’t continue living as her. She’s 18 this year while I was going to turn 95.”

“Why does that matter?”

“Have you ever seen an old lady living life as and pretending to be a young kid?”

“Age is just a number, right?”

“No, its fucking not! Who even invented that shitty saying?”

“Oh, Mary, Mary, what are you going to do?”

“Should I try ending my life again?”

“You can’t end her life either. That’s call being selfish. How can you end her life because you are tired of living?”

“What should I do, then?”

“How the fuck should I know? I’m you”

Grandma sighed again. And again. And again.

First thing first, she thought. What should my name be?

No way in hell would I allow people to call me Chrysanthemum. Chris? Annabelle was right. It was a bit too masculine for this ladylike image I am trying to portray. Hmm, that’s right. I need to be a lady now. A true lady should have a proper name.
