《Many-Worlds: Origins》Chapter 7

Emily P.O.V
It has been a few hours, and it was mostly spent in silence. Around the beginning of the car ride, Derek had begun to advise caution with how we proceed forward. He had forgotten to reveal that we were going to be hunted back in Chicago by people similar to him. Every one of them having some kind of experience at tracking people down.
“It won't be a problem, Derek, some regular human won't be much of a match against Users” I lightly laughed
Derek shook his head in disagreement “You don't understand Emily, they are different. I had some competition when chasing down a past target.”
“Okay, soo?” I asked it swing to my voice
“You should know more than anyone, people like us have increased senses. Yet this guy was able to take my target and put me in the hospital” Derek tone vibrated with anger.
The car went quiet, and ambient of seriousness overcame the mood. Once someone has mana running through their veins, they become something that can't be hurt by a nonuser.
“You think they can use magic?” I asked
Derek nodded “Definitely, Michael’s mafia group is made of supernatural beings. So why wouldn't there be”
The thought had not come to mind, there was the possibility of other human Users. Knowing this over complicated the situation since it meant we would have to proceed with more caution. Derek was good in nature, but I can not be confident that others will be the same.
"Have any idea on how they move?" I asked Derek
He nodded his head "No, we all work differently. It all comes down to our personality."
"What about the guy who put you in the hospital."
Derek remained quiet as he pondered the question. Even with the atmosphere being serious, I had trouble holding back a grin due to Derek's expression. He was currently going through an array of facial expressions as he recounted the events that led to his failure.
"He was loud in nature, and the way he kills fits him." Derek spoke, "He uses distractions before his kills."
"Isn't that how it is supposed to be done?" I asked confused
"Yes, if they were a harmless distraction. Instead, innocent civilians are killed while dozens are heavily injured." Derek hands tighten on the steering wheel

I winced a little at the statement. Someone who does not have a concern for other innocent life is a monster. No restraint or limit on the amount of damage they are willing to inflict for their own personal gain. While I have taken the life of human before, it did not compare to what this person has done.
"what is his name?" I asked
He shrugged "I don't know, we never used our real name. The only person that knew our name was top ranks in Micheal's inner circle. They usually referenced him as Anemoi."
I didn't respond back and only kept my silence. My heart sped up as I kept my thought dwelling in the possibility of running into Anemoi. It was difficult enough keeping up with Derek back when we first met. Now I am finding out someone actually got the best of him.
Derek took a glance at me and took notice of my expression. It wasn't one of nervousness or fear, no, instead it was full of excitement. Gleeful excitement over being given a chance to go against someone stronger. While I did hate this life, the only thing I did enjoy was pushing myself to my limit. It was for this reason that I took such a significant role in taking down Micheal, to face someone stronger. No one knew about this side of me and it was a truth about me, even those close to me did not know.
"you okay?" Derek asked bringing me out my thought
I nodded my head "Yeah I'm fine, just happy to see Francis again."
Derek did not question any further and kept on heading back to Chicago.
-time skip-
We walked through the double door of a church and headed to the back of the building. Stopping in front of the wooden door, I slowly knocked in rhythm, alerting the people on the side who it is. Seconds later the wooden door opened up to reveal a girl my age, a broad grin plastered across her lips.
"Hey Jessica" I greeted her with a smile of my own
Jessica jumped forward and wrapped her arms around my body "Emily! I missed you so much."
I returned the gesture before pulling back from the embrace and walking into the room. Jessica took a glance at Derek, and I saw her eyes go hungry as they took the sight of his body. Derek didn't seem to notice Jessica's hungry eyes as he introduced himself.

My jaw clenched when I saw Jessica give Derek a flirtatious smile. This gesture didn't go over his head as he returned one of his own. I felt jealousy rise within as the two individuals got quickly familiar with each other.
Jessica was by no means ugly and probably has guys turning their heads for her daily. Golden blond locks that appeared to shined even under low light, fair skin that didn't have a single blemish and blue eyes that were icy blue.
I lightly coughed to grabbed their attention and made a notion that we had other matters to attend to. Jessica softly laughs since she was caught flirting and Derek only looked at me intrigued. I ignored his look and turned to Francis who stood by his desk, speaking with Antonio.
"Hey Francis, were you able to do what I asked?" I said walking up beside Francis
Francis looked down at me and gave me a warm smile " Yeah, he should be in the last bit of his territory left. "
Francis had drawn a circle in a ten-yard radius with the Faye main house being in the center. When I saw what was left of his territory, I felt a pang of sadness for the family. Around six months ago, they still held control on half of Chicago and now they been reduced to this. Like the church helped the community in every way they were able to, the Faye did the same with Users. The only difference was one working in a more upfront matter while the other did things out of site of nonuser.
"Why did you need to see that man for?" Francis asked
I went ahead and began explaining Derek, and I plan to Francis, making sure to leave out Eleena out of the conversation.
"mmm that is interesting, I am surprised you two manage to think of it" He sat and rubbed his chined "well go do what you need and take Jessica, she can be of some help to Derek and you."
I nod my head and look back to Derek and Jessica who were once again back to whispering to each other. A sudden urge of jealousy rose up in my stomach again from watching them together. I inhaled deeply and reminded myself that it was for the best. Sticking strong to not getting involved with Derek was the smart choice, and that is why I rejected him last night.
With my best smile on, I walk over to them "Ready to go?"
"Let me grab my bag, and then we can go" Jessica responded while Derek just gave a simple nod of his head.
When Jessica left the room, I turned my attention to Derek.
"So, seems like you and Jessica are getting along pretty well," I said leaning my back against the wall
One of Derek's eyebrow perked up "Yeah, she pretty interesting and funny."
I nodded my head in agreement and went silent. Derek's eyes showed signs of interest and curiosity which made me a feel antsy. My sight began looking at everything in the room that was not Derek's eyes at the moment. Even while I was looking at a bookcase Francis had in the corner of the room, I was still able to feel Derek's gaze on me.
"Does it make you feel jealous?" I heard Derek speak softly
I turned back to him while clicking my tongue "What? No, I am not jealous."
"Oh really?"
Derek stared in my eyes with the same amount of intensity as he did the night before. Even after seeing it once and was prepare for it, I was still left breathless. Somehow his eyes retained the glow that was there from the moonlight the previous night.
Just as I was about to break under Derek's eyes, Jessica walked back into the room with a backpack on "We can go now."
"Good!" I hurriedly said while Jessica gave me a confused glance
Derek laughter could be heard resounding through the hallway as I walked towards my car.
