《Powerful》It Takes A Killer to Know a Killer

A loud flapping of wings got everyone out of the wagon again. The group ran out to see Hiro carrying Dian, flying over gracefully. He put her down gently, and they walked over, hand in hand.

“Dian! I kind of forgot about you!” Phila ran over.

“Hiro?” Ella looked confused.

“What?” Sahara looked at them both. “Are you together?”

Hiro grinned. “Yeah, we’re dating.” Dian giggled.

“You’re dating your kidnapper?” Garnet asked Dian. “I forgot to tell you that I asked Ryan, you know, the laser-eyed guy out. He said yes! But your love story’s more interesting.”

“Yeah, he’s actually really nice,” said Dian. “He even dumped his current girlfriend for me. And the best part is, he really likes the short haircut he gave me.” Hiro came by and put his arm around Dian.

“You really get to know someone when they’re locked in your closet for thirteen hours,” said Hiro. “I know her entire life story, and more.” Dian giggled.

“Anyways, apparently Chad got mad that Phila rejected him again, so him and Hiro decided to kidnap me. And then they stuffed me in the closet. But then Hiro felt guilty about leaving me alone so he skipped classes and talked with me,” said Dian. “And now we’re together!”

“Well, it seems like everyone is getting together,” said Sahara, looking sullenly at the sky. Amethyst came and sat next to her.

“You know, boys aren’t everything,” said Amethyst. “And if it really bothers you, I could ask Phila to clone herself.”

“No, it’s not that. I thought we were all going to end up happy. But in the end, I’m just hurting,” said Sahara. “And I don’t know why.”

“Is it the absence of someone that hurts you?” asked Amethyst.

“No, I feel like everyone I know is drifting away from me. Its like an absence of love,” whispered Sahara. Amethyst laughed.

“Don’t you see? You’re just the opposite of unloved. You have 9 people here that love you!” said Amethyst. Fireball curled up in Sahara’s lap.

“9 people and Fireball,” joked Amethyst. Sahara smiled.

“I guess,” said Sahara.

“And plus, I’m betting none of these relationships are going to last long anyways,” joked Amethyst.

Garnet came over. “What’d you say?”

Amethyst laughed. “Nothing! Nothing! Just comforting Miss Single here.”

“I almost thought you said the word comforting,” said Sahara, stroking the spikes on Fireball’s back. He grunted and made steam come out of his nostrils.

Ella suddenly became serious and went over to Sahara. “Do you know why I’m jealous of you?” she asked.

“You’re jealous of me?” Sahara replied. “You have my brother as a boyfriend.”

“That’s not it,” Ella responded. “You got to kill Madame Myalo. You know what I would have given to kill that silly old witch? Just kidding, I’m jealous of you because you don’t need a boyfriend. For all my life, I’ve felt the need to have a guy treat me like I’m amazing and important. But you are amazing and important, and can be fantastic on you own, without a boyfriend. And someday, after you’ve accomplished the impossible, you’ll get more recognition and respect than I will ever have. So go out there and rock it!”

“Ella… I never knew you felt that way,” Sahara replied, stunned.

Ella smiled. “I’m not all feathers.”

Amethyst pointed out. “No, you’re 10% feathers, at least if we’re discussing by weight. It is more if you take volume into consideration…” She stopped when she noticed Garnet’s glare.

“I guess it is true, I am pretty awesome. But my mom abandoned me, I got my memory wiped by my stepfather, my adopted sister died and rose from the dead, and my own brother found a girlfriend and moved on, who is also my adopted sister,” Sahara paused. “Hmm. But anyways, clearly I haven't had the chance to see my awesomeness. And Ella, having the ability to take someone’s life doesn't make me great; it only makes me weak because I abused my power. And for that, I can never forgive myself. And I will never let a boy come in between doing what is right and what I want.” said Sahara with self determination.

Ella pouted. “Yeah, killing Frida wasn’t exactly pleasant.” She shuddered.

“So, how did you kill her?” asked Oma. Ella looked at Sahara.

“It takes a killer to know how to be a killer,” said Sahara, shuddering.

The two girls shared knowing smiles.

Ella looked up. “Hey Phila, remember when you used me like a hang glider?”

Phila laughed. “Yeah, that totally failed.”

“Well, I think I’m strong enough now to fly holding something, do you want to give it a try?”

Phila stood. “Oh, definitely.”

“So, what do we do now?” asked Dian, watching them take off.

“Let’s just... see what happens,” said Sahara.

“Agreed.” Garnet smiled.

The sun set as the sisters flew into the horizon, seeking a place to finally rest.
