8. The Unnamable One
(Triquatrain)
1
We still talk of the days when the blighted one stays
At the house of the fiends in the air;
But please whisper those words, so that not even birds
Will heed us in our tale—so beware!
It was on a sad morrow, our hearts filled with sorrow
For the death of our beautiful queen;
So we donned on our armor, each noble and each farmer,
To make haste to the place where she'd been.
For once she was fair; now rests with a prayer
That she holds on her lips in her silence;
For once we were strong, so bold and so young,
Until she was taken with such violence
That she died in her struggles to give birth and her knuckles
Had become so clenched-up and so white;
And right there she expired on her bedside so tired,
So worn out in her birth-pains that night.
And the heir that she bore struck a pall in the core
Of all those in attendance with fright;
So we took the small devil and committed the evil
That still stalks us with fear in the night.
For the name that the queen had given on the scene
Of her struggle and screaming and death
Has become a bad word that only was heard
In the curses of her dying last breath:
"May the pains that I bear drift up to the air!
May the face of this babe disappear!
I would rather be dead than bear up the head
Of the Devil's own son over here!"
And for those who have heard our queen utter such words,
We will take to our graves when we die;
For we fear that unnamable and horribly damnable
Sion of the queen's frightened eye.
For the baby was evil, a son of the devil,

With the eyes of a demon's so black
And the body of an imp whose limbs were so limp
That he barely could move on his back.
So frightened we were at the sight of it there
That we took it and buried it alive;
And the screams of despair were the stuff of nightmares
As it struggled to cry and survive.
But we dared not to bash it with shovels or lash it
With ropes to obstruct it's foul screams,
For we feared that to draw the baby's blood raw
On the dirt would then haunt us in dreams.
And since then we have tried to forget and to hide
All the horrors that we have all seen;
And since then we still live and try to forgive
Our most heinous wrongdoing of our queen.
2
Now it's been twenty years, and the tracks of our tears
Are but memories long-buried in toil;
So we thought we were free from the hideous memory
Of the baby deformed as a gargoyle.
But in the twentieth year since the fading of the fear,
There arose a depression of sadness,
Which took over the township in a panic so severe
That the township descended into madness.
For the specter of the baby that had killed their fair lady,
Their lost queen, has returned to on the town;
And the ones that remember have rekindled the slow ember
Of those fearful old days in their breakdown.
For the specter will prey on the youth where they stay;
They are dying right before the old eyes
Of those cursed to remember the killing of one member
Who should have lived to survive his first cries.
But this world is so cruel, and every soul is a fool
To believe in the goodness of adults;
And so the specter will gain from the small ones that remain
Advertisement
By entering their nightmares with results
Too hideous to mistake for a nightmare so fake
That adults will still refuse to believe;
But deep in their hearts, they will shiver in all parts
For the horrors that they will receive.
For it comes in the night just outside of their sight
When the children will breathe out their last;
And when that day shall come, they will all be struck dumb
As they find out their judgement has passed.
For where children stay, so the blighted one will sway
All the children to ascend to the air,
Where he takes them away full of laughter so gay,
While the adults on their knees sink in prayer.
But their prayers go unanswered, and their hopes will be shattered,
As slowly one-by-one they die out;
And their words as they die will fade out as a sigh
Upon the alter of repentance that cries out:
"And so we have sinned and are now left behind
To die out in this plague of slow days;
And so we that remain must all answer for the slain,
The cause of our dying in this craze!"
And now we that persist in this maddening mist
Of remembrances ere we shall depart
Are now cursed to remember in quieted whisper
Of the days when the calamities start.
So we still talk of the days when the blighted one stays
At the house of the fiends in the air;
But please whisper those words, so that not even birds
Will heed us in our tale—so beware!

The Archaic Elements
A fantasy world, its own unique power-up system, some mystery aspects to make it look interesting and an MC that should make sense but well messes up, cause plot. Flashy fights. Characters will use their brain, unless it is an arrogant young master that needs to be taught a lesson. The starting is slow and maybe boring. The main MC does not desire great strength or harbor any great ambition. He starts out as a naive, lazy and a boring person. But the story does hold one aspect which will fuel the growth of our MC, which is his boundless curiosity for adventure and his will to explore. The second MC is a reincarnation/transmigration and he has a clear cut aim that he needs to achieve. His past life experiences also becomes a pillar that will help guide the main MC, while his friend also supports him. The writing is slow and steady. I will provide reasonings behind most happenings and keep it a logical story. It's a WIP as I edit the previous chapters even as I release more, so while the content doesn't change, the style and smoothness improve. The current release rate is 3 chapter/week. There is no specific date as I can get sidetracked or forgetful., but I will try to stick to Tues, Thurs and Sunday releases.
8 146Polly and Drake
Drake has been searching for a job as a personal guard, but wherever he turns, he is kicked out without fail. It's not that he's terrible with weapons, or inattentive. It could be because of his obvious racial heritage. Or because of Polly. With his funds dwindling, the only remaining option is to become one of the Cursed: poor souls that work for the Dragoneye Guild. In other lands, they may be called adventurers, saviors or even heroes, but not in the White Desert. Here, they are shunned and ignored. Depraved people who forsook their humanity for money and fame. With this choice, Drake may not only fall from grace, but also become one of only a few thousands capable of unearthing the secrets of ancient times. If he could get this guardsman notion out of his head. May contain gore, violence, profanity and traumatising content. Taking another shoot at this writing business. I write for fun and when I have time. There is no plan. The story may change drastically from what it starts out - or not. We'll see what happens. Currently, I'm aiming for a Slice of Life with LitRPG elements at a later time.
8 87The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
