Chapter 4: I won’t die that easily, right?
Although the fat man seems to have fully recovered after he took the healing potion, he is still panting heavily. I wanted to tell him to wait for a little and take a deep breath but I didn't know how to say it in his language. I tried to make a gesture as I said: calm down, Homer Simpson ... calm down, or you will have a heart attack.
He looked at me with his eyes wide open, showing his lack of understanding. But soon his look changed, returned as before, terrified and scared. Why does he look so terrified? Why do you look at the sea in fear, Homer? Is there something behind me?
I looked back. To the sea and its crashing waves. Nothing .. there is nothing.
But what I don't see, doesn't mean that there is nothing. Caution is a must in this world. This is the first rule to stay alive here. I wanted to inquire from the fat man if there was anything at sea that scared him.
I pointed at him. Then to the sea. After that, I made a sign with both hands asking him if there is something that was scaring him coming from the sea.
The fat man nodded his head several times. Suddenly his gaze changed, and his eyes brightened with a frightening glow. His gaze no longer looked like a person who was afraid of something, rather like someone who was about to commit an evil thing.
Suddenly, a strange, semiautomatic pistol appeared in his hands. It looked similar to the pistols that pirates used in American films. Then he started filling the gunpowder inside the pistol with tension and quickly. And when he finished, he pointed the barrel of the pistol at me. Yes, this goddamn bastard pointed his pistol at me not to the unknown danger coming from the sea.
BAM!
The sound of a scary shot echoed through the entire beach.
This bastard shot me. Fortunately, I was far away from him, and that this revolver is not as accurate as of the Earth's handguns. More importantly, because my instincts told me to lay aside when he raised the nozzle towards me.
I had a slight scratch on my arm, and despite the pain that suddenly engulfed me, I endured it, which is better than having a hole in my skull or stomach.
When that fat bastard realized that he didn't hit me. He started to try shooting me again. He took the powder pack and…
Would I allow this bastard to shoot me twice? of course not.

These antique guns take several seconds before they can feed them again, and these few seconds were all I needed so that I can run and reach him before shooting me.
The first thing I did when I got to that bastard was that I kicked the pistol from his hand in grudge. Then I took a fist of sand and threw it on his face. The fat man shouted and started repeating vague words which I didn't care to know its meaning. Either he shouts an apology or he curses me. Either way, I don't give a damn. I kicked him for a second and a third time, then I took a new fist of sand, and this time I put it in his eyes directly.
Now the fat bastard is unable to see me.
I kicked him in his stomach again, then knocked him to the ground, punched him in his stomach twice, then I searched his body to find the small wooden box full of magic rings, After that, I took the ring which he wore on his right hand.
I headed towards the handgun, which almost disappeared under the sand due to my severe beatings with the fatty, then I took it.
Now what should I do?
Here are the Facts, something is terrifying chasing this fatty scoundrel to the point that made him think about sacrificing me, and making me a scapegoat for him. Sacrifice the person who saved him. This means two things, either he is an immensely evil person or a very desperate person. Or maybe both together.
But what I know well .. this person doesn't deserve pity, nor rescue for a second time.
I quickly searched the beach around me looking for a good spot so I can use it as a hideout, and to keep me out of sight, as there is no doubt that the fatty pursuers are about to appear at any given moment.
Oh. This is a really good place. I ran towards a big rock near the trees at the end of the beach. I ran with full force while taking a look from time to time behind me. The fatty desperate cries were still reaching my ears. I saw him trying to remove the sand from his eyes with saltwater from the sea. I laughed as I thought, he must be regretting the moment he betrayed me.
Finally, I got to the rock, and I hid behind it while lying on the floor. I kept watching the fatty, and the sea, with eyes full of caution.
Suddenly the fat man took off his shoes, and grab something out of it. Of course, I couldn't see that thing clearly because I was so far away from him, but after a few moments I found him lifting his hands towards his mouth as if he was drinking something, and then he got up on his feet as if he was fully recovered and healthy.

This damned bastard. who is he? Why did he carry so many magic rings everywhere in his body? There is no doubt those rings are rare in this world and don't grow on trees. I can deduct from the gun that I took from that this world civilization isn't very advanced industrially, if we apply the standards of the earth to them, then this means that their industrial civilization is still in a very primitive stage ... perhaps similar to the seventeenth or eighteenth centuries.
But what baffles me the most is the numbers of magic store rings in possession of that fatty.
Maybe he stole it? Yes, this is the logical answer. But isn't that unbelievable?
Whatever. I am the owner now. And I smell rich.
The fat man began to search the area around him as if he was trying to find me, but soon he gives up and decided to run like before.
Unfortunately for him, before he could travel for over twenty meters, his pursuers finally emerged from the depths of the sea.
The moment I saw the pursuers, I felt my legs given up despite I was lying flat on the earth. Which means what I saw Is something way more terrifying than the aliens' movie.
Oh, God. What are these things ?! I am afraid. What a nice world that damn ring teleported me to?
There were a group of five sea monsters in the shape of the human body, there were suckers instead of arms… like octopus arms, and there was something like a hard shell covering their backs. As for their heads, they were similar to sea oysters. It almost made me empty my stomach. They carry all kinds of weapons you see in any cheap pirate movie. Tiles, mice, swords, etc.
The fat man retreated in fear several meters back, then took out another gun from the spae ring. then he Shoots at those sea monsters. But suddenly something amazing and terrifying happened. One of those monsters took a step forward, then pointed his hand toward the fat man, and suddenly a magic wall appeared to separate them, and of course the pistol bullet didn't penetrate the magic wall.
The Sea monsters began to surround him as if they were surrounding easy prey. I could hear their scary laughs from my place. I could also see the fat man as he seemed to surrender completely, losing the will to resist.
I sighed as I look at him from my spot. Of course, I won't sympathize with him. If he weren't rotten in his core and tried to sacrifice me as a scapegoat, we'd both be safe now.
When the circle began to constrict the fat man, he sat on the sandy ground in submission. Which is why the Sea monsters drop their caution.
Suddenly out of nowhere, a cannon bomb appeared in fatty hands, ending with a burning fuse, and the flame almost reaching its end.
For the first time, the faces of sea monsters were full of panic, and each one of them started running in a different direction, but time was never on their side.
Booooooom!
The bomb exploded into hundreds of shrapnel and fragments, and as it exploded, the fat man turned into a rag, or to be precise... He was no longer there.
As for the sea monsters, there is one who died immediately, the second lost a large part of their chest and stomach, as for the third one he lost several limbs, and the fourth one lost his head .. in other words .. they are all dead or are on their way to meet the angel of death.
finally. The danger has passed. Thanks again to that fatty bastard. If he hadn't blown himself up with this suicidal act, I wouldn't know if I would be safe from those sea monsters or not.
And now there is an important thing that I must do .. Treating my minor injury ... but before that .. I need to vomit everything inside my stomach ... I am not used to seeing all this killing, death, and destruction.
After I finished throwing up, I take a closer look at the battlefield to make sure these sea monsters are dead.
One .. is dead. Two ... dead too ... three and four ... dead too.
And the fifth ... Where is it? why can't I see him?
I looked over the beach more carefully than before as I felt uneasiness coming from nowhere. Where did that damned fifth go? Did he return to the sea? Yes, this is the appropriate logical scenario.
Suddenly I heard the sound of a movement coming from behind me, and when I looked back, I found the fifth monster...
I won't die that easily, right?
Damn!

Flame Beneath The Snowfall
Alto is a world governed by Tones. Magic, as one might call it. Manifested through deep mental and physical conditioning, one can control the Tones in a way that is unique to them. The power to store items in gems, transfer life, affect a person's mind, and even the more primal abilities such as control of the elements. Those who have these supernatural abilities are called 'Vassals.' People that fully manifest their abilities are not as common as one might think, and not all Vassals acquire their ability through practice, given if conditions are met. In fact, those who had received much trauma manifest the Tones more frequently, albeit spontaneously. However, the rare kind of Vassals are those who manifest it from childhood. A gift, but not without its repercussions. Alto is stuck in a transitional era, where the line between modern and dated technology is blurred. One can travel to a city that has a tall skyline, bustling with people in sophisticated clothing, or a mere town governed by a lord, all the while riding on a powered vehicle. Cultures vary: Some turn to the more dated practices such as castes, others are more inclined to set equal footing on their people, led by nobility. Some are dedicated to become scholars, studying Alto's Tones, while others set foot on hunts, protecting lone towns from the creatures of some of the still-untamed lands. And the Vassals? Those willing are took under The Organization, an elusive group, its presence said to permeate all throughout Alto, taking care of Rogue Vassals that abuse their abilities and other businesses related to their side. But what is this story all about, you may ask? Well, set your sights on the upper portions of this huge landmass that is Alto. Yes, the 'whole' world is called Alto, but that is because the majority of the known people live on this large continent. Relieve yourself of the worrying tensions everywhere, and see the white snow. Trace the piercing mountaintops and focus your eyes between the valley. A town sits there. Mido. After realizing that the memories only left in his mind was the night of his town's imminent destruction in flames, a boy finds himself grasping for every fiber of his life as he lays down flat on the ground. Beneath him was soot mixed with the white snow. Fortunately, a group of investigators, who were supposed to answer their call for help, saved him from his sorry state. With a newfound second wind, but hampered by his loss of memory, he must solve his own case: Who had the audacity to set Mido, his town, aflame? Flame Beneath the Snowfall focuses on action, with a sense of adventure, but mostly the discovery of an outside world, and the protagonist's exposure to it. Add in a whisk of soft magical elements, and you get a story that I hope will be interesting to the readers. That is not to say that my work is without the sense of unnerving atmosphere, however. As a forewarning, there are elements of gore, horror, minor elements of mental trauma, etc. so it is not for all audiences. *The book is already completed. Although I have plans to continue the story (it would have to involve much larger scope in terms of world-building), I have yet to decide when to start the next entry.
