《Dreams of the Aasimar Cleric》City of Wonders, Gone

A dream:
Like so many times before the black and white flashes begin to fade from your vision, and the world around you seems to come back into focus. You are standing on the street, it's fairly wide made of some kind of stone pieces set tightly together to form the base of the road. The structures on each side seem to be mud-brick mostly, they appear to all be coated with something white and have all been painted in a variety of different colors over that. The whole area is filled with people milling around and talking most just seem to be going about their business. As you look around you see strange things flying above you, they appear manufactured instead of natural as they are rectangles mostly some squares and other various simple geometric shapes, from underneath they appear beige and seem to be moving in straight lines across the sky. Not too far from where you are standing you see one of these things take off, flying up from a rooftop nearby and from where you are now and how close it is to you you can see that it's definitely not some kind of creature but it is in fact what appears to be a simple piece of material or fabric maybe an inch or so thick with a human being sitting on top of it along with chest of some kind at the person's feet. No one else seems to even notice or care about the flying person taking off overhead. You continue to look around you can distinctly hear people talking in different languages, some of which are softer while others are much more guttural languages, yet no one seems to be having any trouble understanding one another. A person stops near you and appears to be holding a small rock in his hand. There's something carved into the rock, you can't quite tell what but he appears to be talking to himself while holding the stone. You look around and you don't see anyone there, there isn’t anyone he could be talking to, he's not using a tone or volume that would indicate he's trying to communicate with somebody some distance from him. Perhaps the man is just crazy. Further up the street you can see several buildings some of which are much larger than the ones around you that you can guess are shops and homes. The roofs of those buildings seem to be held up by pillows carved from large single pieces of granite or marble. Standing in front of those buildings are several large statues. The one on the right side of the road is flanked on either side by what appear to be large statues of men with a head or a headdress of some kind fashioned in the shape of a long snouted dog, with some kind of rod or spear in one hand. Directly across from it it was a similar building except the statues in front of it well oh some kind of long snouted reptile having a human lower half. Off in the distance you can see some much larger buildings, they appear to be some kind of triangle, the entire exterior of the building appears to be gold. Standing in front of the tall pointy building are several tall pillars of stone cut to have four sides with painted engravings covering each of the sides.

Coming down the street towards you there's a man who seems to be pushing a tall stack of boxes as he gets closer to you you can see that it is in fact several stacks of boxes they don't appear to be on any kind of cart or wheelbarrow but appear instead to be floating a few inches off the ground, some kind of transparent surface seems to be holding the weight of the boxes. The man behind them seems to be holding some kind of metal rod with both hands parallel to the ground as he walks forward the boxes seem to float in front of him, he doesn't seem to be exerting any kind of force but simply holding the rod in such a manner causes the object to float. He stops for a moment and puts the rod at his side and the boxes come down to gently rest on the road. He takes one of the boxes from the stack and takes it inside the front door of one of the buildings here on the street. He steps out again lifts the rod as before and the boxes once again begin to float just several inches off the ground and the mostly transparent platform appears again under them and the man continues on down the road.
Everyone seems to me at least moderately well dressed here. You don't see anyone that you would consider starving or underfed. Most wear very light colored fabrics and most have at least some kind of gold jewelry, most with some precious stones hanging from gold chains. Looking inside the houses you can see finely carved furniture and golden cups and plates set on them. The walls inside are painted with depictions of all manner of scenes, some of fields of wheat scenes of forests and rivers. You can see several children playing in a small courtyard, they seem to be playing with some metal toys made to look like different kinds of wild creatures, the toys are moving and walking and seem to be making noises and responding to the children.

Just then there is a sound, a crack like thunder, you look into the distance and there is smoke rising from one of the golden triangle shaped buildings. You can see near the base of it several people running away from the building. Then all at once you can feel the ground start to shake, and the outside of the golden starts to crackle with lightning, with a deafening sound the building explodes, giant chunks of rocks go flying into the air. The chunks seem to stay suspended in the air for a moment. Everyone on the street with you looks on with you at the sight. Then just a moment later after a few people seem to have shaken off the shock the chunks of stone and gold fall down to the earth onto the base of what was the building. There is a bright flash, a white light, it is so bright you can feel heat coming from the source. It burns your skin, you can hear people around you start to scream. Then another explosion many times larger than the one before, there is a giant rush of air, and heat.
