《Dreams of the Aasimar Cleric》Sneaking Around Where She Shouldn't Be

A dream:
Your vision clears as the flashes of black and white fade, all around you is dark no source of light at all. Shades of grey blink into view and the stone slab walls and stone brick floor sharpen in your vision. You look around and the passageway seems several times as tall as you are. You walk behind a similarly squat and very short figure. He appears to be like the dwarves you have seen before except shorter, and his features seems fuller and disproportionate in some way. He is wearing simple clothes and has a small knife at his belt. He reaches a corner and hides behind it and slowly peaks around it. He pulls his head back and motions for you to get closer. You move closer as he sticks his head around the corner again. He quickly throws his back up against the wall and you follow suit. A figure comes around the corner and proceeds on the route past you. He doesn’t appear to have noticed you. It appeared to be a male dwarf, his long beard in a rough weave covering the front of his shirt. He had a pickaxe over one shoulder and appeared to be holding some kind of waterskin or bottle up to his mouth as he passed you. He had a metal helmet on with a strange box on the front of it. As you press up against the wall you can see the layers of some kind of dress poof up around you as you are pressed to the wall. You seeming compatriot moves around the corner and you follow. Up ahead you can see where the well defined stone wall turn rough and the brick floors give way to uneven terrain. You can hear metal clanking in the distance and you start to stay close to one side of the passage as it opens up to a large space up ahead. You carefully shift along one side of the now cavernous space and on the far side you can still hear the metal clanging. The short figure in front of you point to a small opening in the sidewall of the cavern while holding one finger vertically over his mouth, the universal sign for quiet. You make your way stepping very carefully across the now rough and uneven floor. You kneel down to follow the one leading you through the gap in the wall, as you do you can feel and see dirty water soaking into the many skirt layers of your dress. As you start to crawl the necklace you are wearing dangles into your view as well. It is small but very intricate, fine wires of different seeming metals with swooping and spiraling around each other with several stones of some kind in settings on it. Similarly there are rings on a few of your fingers, most of which have at least two or three small stones set in them. In contrast the one in front of you seems to be wearing no such jewelry and his closes have no real frills or accents on them. You keep crawling behind him and you see him stand up in a space that is up ahead after crawling for some distance on your hands and knees. As he stands you tilt your head to try to look into the open space ahead and as you do something falls off of your head. A metal circle that till now had been resting on your temples and forehead rather missfittingly, falls to the stone floor with a clink and starts to roll a small distance into the space ahead. You listen carefully and you can still hear the clanging going on in the far room. The other figure quickly scoops it up and once you stand up in the space he bows his head slightly and lifts it up with both hands. You curtsy slightly so that he can reach to place it on your head again. You start to look around the room and there are clusters of crystals covering the walls. You start to look around admiring the beauty of it. Some small and some quite large crystals forming all kinds of sharp geometric shapes. Your companion takes a small candle from his pocket and lights it, the light form it seems bright at first then dims to an appropriate light as it does the color of the place starts to almost assault your eyes. The crystals are many different colors with different brightnesses, they seem to capture the light of the small candle and reflect it. Where as you could up until now only see a short distance into this space the reflected light seems to fill the space it is a large cavern the interior of which is filled with these colorful crystals. Even the floor directly around you is the sharp crystals and you aren’t able to actually move much beyond where you crawled in. As he waves the candle back and for the light being reflected in all directions dances on the walls. A rainbow shower of color flickering and shifting on the walls, ceiling and floor of the space. You stand there for several minutes just watching it all. You then notice that the sound from the room on the other side of the passage has stopped. Your companion quickly snuffs out the candle and you carefully make your way through the passage again. There is still silence coming from the other room up ahead but you can hear footsteps as well. You quietly make your way back around on the same side as you had entered on, holding yourselves almost to the wall, as you approach the walking passage you slip and fall back, you stop yourself with your hands. The floor seems slick and sticky to your hands. You pull one up to your hand to find it coated in a thick dark liquid, that drips slowly down your arm. The one you are traveling with glances around before lighting up the candle once again to get a better look at what it is coating the floor and now your dress and shoes and dripping down your arm. The candle ignites and after a few seconds of blinking the colors fade in. The liquid is a crimson red, you squish your fingers together to test the consistency of the liquid, it just feels warm and kinda sticky. You companion seems frozen he isn’t moving, you start to look around the room. There just a handful of feet to once side is the body of a dwarf, his head is missing and in that second it dawns on you just what the liquid is, several more bodies lay nearby in a similar state, all seem to be missing their heads and some other limbs as well. You start to shake and a single high pitch squeal of a scream escapes your mouth in a single ear piercing tone.

Colors blur into one another until my vision is completely white. All I can think is "Shit, not this again!" I hate being summoned. _________________________________ updates once a week until I get more time The idea for this story began in two places. One was the ridiculously rapid pace of gaining power in many novels. Both in games and in novels, I enjoy the struggle of the beginning character, why always the rush? The other was the way many monster or non-human MCs always seem to hurry to become human (again). It always felt like a cheap way to grant the character extra powers without the difficulty of writing a non-standard thought process. Thus I wanted to write the slow(ish) progression of a monster character gaining strength and intelligence, while remaining distinctly non-human. There are no stats, xp or systems, no reincarnated soul or completely formed being to start with - unless I want to make fun of those. While the MC 'evolves', the process takes months if not years to proceed step by little step. Sit down with me and imagine, what would it be like if...
