《War Act I: Factory of Heroes》Arc I: The Forgotten City

We miraculously got out of the Forgotten Mountain in one piece, looted the corpses along the way.
In town, I decided to register as a squad. So, we can get the privileges of being in one before we set out.
. . .
At the edge of town, there lies the gate to the Forgotten City, where all sorts of mutants live from plants, animals, humans, and — not humans.
There is one goal within the walls of the Forgotten City, its to get pass The Guardian. A stone statue of a god they say. It holds the key to the Black Gate. What is over the Black Gate? No one knows, anyone who gets on the other side never returns to town.
In the City, there are two known ways to get pass the Guardian. The first one is simple, kill The Guardian; Second is through the Sewers.
Underneath town, there's a labyrinth that goes outside the walls but we will need a bunch of stuff around the city, basic stuff like maps, keys, etc. Things we will eventually realize as we get deeper into the sewers according to rumors.
Right now, there are just the three of us. We tried recruiting but we don't have much to offer. Unlike full guilds or squads. Mhirfa does not seem to mind she is not exactly a warrior type like she claims, more like a merchant-priestess of sorts. What she lacks in battle she makes up a lot in productivity.
For two months we scoured the whole city, lots of running, fighting, looting, and other stuff. Played it safe, we traded with others along the way, even found safe zones were we can make camp in relative peace.
. . .
Surveyed the Black Gate.
The Guardian is two twenty meter colossal statues fused together at the back. Each statue has a sword and shield combination. Also, reports say that the Gate has automated defenses, triggered when a certain number of hostiles are present.

A guild came, to defeat it and get pass the gate. Victory with the Guardian has the advantage of taking everyone involve pass the Black Gate since the sewers can probably only accommodate four to six people safely across its narrow, trap ridden passageways.
They sent sixteen people, a full squad as vanguard. Fifteen just barely outside the premises interchanging during injuries. This way they can fool the gates defenses thinking there is no major threat and slowly whittle down the guardian. The plan was sound. The only problem is it did not seem to work, there was no sign of it slowing down.
Losing hope, they all charge, in an attempt to take it down by force. As soon as they enter, the Black Gates cannons started raining down on them. A lot of them were sent respawning back to the Forgotten Cathedral at town, the rest is history.
But I learned a lot from that.
. . .
We checked the sewers, the girls hated the place, who would not Its dark, damp, smells, and is mutant infested but seems only the normal ones. All passageways lead to a dead-end but it looks like it can be opened up by solving some kind of puzzle. There are blast-proof doors that need a key card, but before that, we need to find a way to restore power to the place. We'll also need a working map, the place is much worst than the Forgotten Mountains.
. . .
I found myself sleepless trying to decide which is the best approach to getting out of here. The Gate, which has the Guardian or the Sewers that have the Labyrinth.
We charted the whole city, but there seems to be more to it than just the normal places. So, the city library is a good way to learn, amazingly still in a good condition except for the mutant den. Manage to skirt around and find a safer passage.

There's a book with an old map of the Forgotten City when it was still remembered. This place was on Earth, one of humanities last bastion. The map showed a peculiar place we have not seen. We looked for clues around the library and found out that it was an advanced underground weapons laboratory just northwest of the Black Gate.
Near the City's Industrial Complex.
We will head there immediately, advance weapons lab sound good to me.
