《Treasured Ascension》1.11 - Core Disciples (5)

The demon regained its bearing after a few seconds, it was a testimony to the great vitality of its race. Without a devastating blow, they could heal any injury in record time.
"What a strong human, he is only a couple levels below the one responsible for my captivity!" The demon admitted softly in its heart. Wild killing intent blossomed in its eyes as it was remembered of that absurd fellow.
Not willing to be once again dominated by a human, the demon resolved itself to battle in its natural form.
Bellow!!!!
Vibrations shook the air, the clouds, and even reached Miolir as the demon suddenly let out a bellow. The bellow radiated pure stubbornness and a desire to never submit to fate or anyone.
Miolir became serious as he could tell the demon was finally giving its best against him. A wave of terrifying demonic power broke out from the demon as he reverted into its natural form.
The 3 m tall, the humanoid demon was gone and replaced by an incomparably huge beast. It was the size of a mountain's top and had legs like heavenly pillars. Beautiful blue scales covered its skin glittering with lightning. Its horns had a crystalline structure with live lightning trapped inside.
Calum was stunned by the magnificent beast. Indeed, a hint of sacred quality could be seen from its figure.
"Truly a great specimen, as always Sun Luo has the knack to find the rarest creatures." Even Yan King was appreciative. "It would make a splendid mount back home." He continued his tone wistful.
Calum dropped a sweat in shock as he heard the wistful comment.
Where is this Yan King from exactly!? They ride demons this powerful there!?
He didn't doubt Yan King a single second, mostly because this senior had always been truthful in whatever information he gave him. But most importantly the reminiscing glow in Yan King's eyes indicated that he was indeed telling the truth. There was no falsehood in his expression.
"Great, I can now give my all." The simple face of senior Miolir carried an indescribable excitement as he grew even taller. He was now, 40m tall. Still, an ant when compared to the blue-scaled beast next to him but by human standards he was massive.
"Shall we?" Miolir invited.
The bull bellowed skyward and trampled toward Miolir. The power of its hooves gave birth to thunder and lightning. As such despite its massive size, it was ridiculously quick. Before long, it had reached Miolir, its hoof descending speedily upon him.

Miolir laughed loudly as battle lust lit up in his heart. He took a step and rose to meet the demon's blow valiantly.
Bang!!!
Wild currents were born from the impact. While the demon only slightly backed up, Miolir was sent hurtling in the distance. If in normal form, it wasn't a match against Miolir, in its natural form it was more than a match. Its physical strength reached a consummate stage. Naturally, Miolir wasn't prepared for the gap between the two forms.
Without giving it's opponent the time to recover, it charged forward. Its horns released a bolt of lightning toward Miolir flying figure.
Miolir, aware of the danger made a sigil with his hand. A bizarre power rose from him, he instantly went still then punched the lightning heavily. The shadow of a tremendous fist occupied heaven and earth briefly before impacting the lightning. It directly scattered and Miolir managed to regain his bearing.
Roar!!!
A tyrannical roar came out of Miolir as he pounced toward the huge beast. The fight rapidly devolved into a primal exchange of blows. The sound of flesh colliding was incredibly loud to the ears of the audience.
Each contact would give birth to a shockwave followed by mutilated flesh or scales. This combat already took mythic proportions, with a giant facing a ferocious legendary beast. Thunder rang out and lightning dazzled the eyes. The demon was just as wounded as senior Miolir. Both were in a miserable state with bloody wounds and broken bones.
Breathing heavily, Miolir looked at his opponent. This fight had truly awakened his savage streak. Contrarily to his brethren who used exquisite arts or bewildering spells, he preferred body-to-body confrontation the most. Only like this did he feel alive and powerful.
The demon was heavily injured, physically as well as mentally. It was cursing the absurd luck that caused it to meet aberrant humans upon aberrant humans as if they were an everyday commodity.
"Great! You are still standing! For that, I bestow upon you a reward. If you resist the next strike, you win. If not, well, you will most likely die." Miolir spoke good-naturedly, but the demon bull felt shivers.
How is that a reward!? The demon screamed in its heart but prepared itself. The scales on its body took on a mirror-like quality. This was its ultimate defensive ability:

The Last Stand Mirror.
If it could bear the brunt of its opponent strike, it would be able to counter-attack by reflectively sending its opponent art back at him. It was one of the most acclaimed skills of the Sky Lighting Bulls. One could see how dire the situation of the demon was to force it to activate such a decisive ability.
Roar!!!
A terrifying momentum surged from Miolir and compressed the surrounding space around him. It gave the feeling that an object possessing the mass of a star had suddenly appeared in the middle of the ring.
Hum…
A huge shadow appeared behind him. The shadow was even larger than his 40 m tall stature. Its legs were like pillars that connected to the deepest hell and its head seemed to reach the highest heaven. Because of this only, the torso of the shadow was somewhat visible.
It was covered with tribal markings that spoke of an ancient forgotten history.
A mimicry of his movement, the shadow behind started closing its palm into a fist. A dark ring of pure nothingness coalesced on Miolir's fist. Space seemed to have been badly stressed by that clenching motion.
A step.
A punch.
A terrifying noise deafened the world, even those in the audience were completely awed.
Simple power, once it reaches an extreme could become something very scary and magical.
This fact was perfectly demonstrated by Miolir. His overly simple punch redefined the meaning of power by itself. As for the demon, its huge figure was now punctured through. A huge hole was on its chest spearing through its flesh, muscles, organs, and bones before opening on the scenery behind it.
Miolir had regained his original appearance. His face was pale, but his eyes shone with excitement. This fight allowed him to use all his strength. His understanding of himself and his power went through a leap. All in all, it was extremely satisfying combat.
"Congratulation, junior Miolir." Sun Luo congratulated with a smile of approbation.
Just as Sun Luo's voice resounded in Miolir ears, the flickering light in the eyes of the bull demon vanished. Its body was now devoid of life. It didn't survive Miolir's final strike.
Startled Miolir looked at it with pity. Shaking his head, he spoke: "Your fate ran short demon. Do not resent me as you make your way beyond. Our races are bitter enemies and only such result could come from our confrontation." He clapped his palm in prayers. After a moment, he walked away from the demon's corpse, stepping out of the ring.
As soon as he was out, he bowed toward Sun Luo, "Thanks brother Luo, thankfully I didn't disappoint you." Miolir spoke respectfully.
As soon as he finished, a torrent of cheers and felicitations surged out of the spectating audience. Miolir's fight was after all visually and technically sensational, keeping one focus until the end.
After that, Miolir regained his seat among the spectators and the event continued smoothly. Numerous fights followed but none were as stimulating as Miolir's. Despite that, they were all rich in insights that Calum didn't hesitate to soak in.
By the end of the event, Calum's eyes were incomparably bright. Wisdom shone inside them. It was an astonishing harvest. Although for the other seniors this event was only slightly more than mere entertainment, for him it was like having them teach him cultivation personally. Naturally, it could be expected that after this he would see his strength soar tremendously.
Warp.
As he took a breath, the scenery changed again, and they were back in the hall. New drinks were served accompanied by steaming food. The crowd was still talking about the coliseum fights. Some bragging, others seriously exchanging pointers.
"As usual, brother Luo's coliseum event is a success." The fairy-like sister Yu complimented.
"Not at all, sister Yu. All the disciples contribute to the making of this event." Sun Luo answered calmly. Although he was indeed the one who went on a trip to capture the various demons exhibited in the coliseum, it was still the other disciples who went along and fought them.
"Indeed, now it's time for the last event of this banquet, The treasure and Information Exchange." At the end of her sentence sister, Yu slightly raised her voice attracting the attention of the crowd.
Smiles suddenly appeared on the face of every disciple.

8 113Essentia Animus
Second Book of the Soul - Celesi Veil Trilogy When the living essence of three girls are put at risk, giving room for a second essence within themselves, even their hyper developed fantasy world might not be enough to contain their new found ambitions. Another story of another world, these three girls must adapt to their new essence, all while each is left to question if they are truly still even alive. While this story is a sequel of the previous story in the trillogy, it is also fully capable of standing alone in its own light, taking place in a distant corner of a Celese returning readers will be otherwise incapable of recognizing. However, the events of the story are a spoiler for the previous book, in case that matters to anyone. This story takes place over two centuries after the events of Vitae Memorandum, when Celese had developed into an advanced world, improved to a point that it is much like modern-day Earth while still using the gift instead of technology. The Aethyx languages are still present in this book, and even English still exists in the world after the events of the previous book, but are much less of a focus after the same closing events of the previous book. What is instead important is how the ending events of the previous book had resulted in the start of the Instrumentation Era, and exactly how the gift translates in a modern-day sense. While this book is still effectively a fantasy world of its own kind of magic, it isn’t the classical medieval scene that would be typical for such a story. The laws of science still do not exist in Celese, but that didn’t stop it from developing into something that looks similar enough. Earth itself still remains present on the other side of the veil, and its previous exposure continues to shape and advance Celese into the world it has become. This story contains scenes exibiting mania and similar dark themes, as it goes to great length to explore concepts of life and death. While the degree of such themes should not be considered to be as serious compared to matters such as actual horror, the psychological depth is still siginifcant enough to be potentially concerning for people sensitive to matters of this nature, such as any individuals with concerns questioning matters of suicide, mental harm, or a variety of emotional injuries. While none of these subjects actually occur in the story, readers who are currently troubled by such matters may find themselves considering old wounds if they are especially capable of empathy while reading, which could lead to furthered emotional or mental stress. Readers with a high capacity for empathy may find themselves troubled by concerns regarding any potential lack of mental/emotional control as well as considerations regarding the meaning of death. Readers who appreciate subtle dark themes in a story may instead find this to be an interesting twist of the same idea.
