"In my defense I don't know why they find th-" Clay begins but I focus on someone behind him.

A blue eyed boy who I left behind almost a year ago is standing right behind Clay

I walk past Clay to come face to face with Aidren

"Charlotte?" he answers "After you skipped last year's I thought you weren't coming to these events ever again"

His eyes were just as I remember, cold but still safe for me in some way.

"Mom forced me" I laugh

"Typical Veronica" Aidren says "I didn't have time to say hi to her yet though, I might stop by her room in a while"

"Char" Clay says walking up from behind me and grabbing my hand "In which floor's our room?"

Holy fuck, I forgot about this. I was so preoccupied with my mom and her awful personality that I didn't think about Clay encountering Aidren... this could be very bad

Having him stand next to Clay brings out their physical similarities even more. I do have a type... Clay however is way taller than him.

"Fourteenth? I think" I answer, I notice Aidren was staying a few floor beneath ours by the button he pressed

"I didn't know you had a boyfriend" Aidren says "Hi, I'm Charlotte's old high school friend, Aidren" he smiles at him

"Oh he's not my boyfriend" I can sense Clay's grip tighten

"Clay" he states

Why does everyone mistake Clay as my boyfriend

The doors close and I'm left in a confined space with my ex boyfriend and a clearly jealous Clay. Just my fucking luck.

Aidren looks at us with confusion in his eyes "Sorry I just assumed it because of..." his gaze turns towards our intertwined hands "Well never mind, I'm glad you're here"

"We are dating" Clay speaks up for the second time, and I give him a side eyed look

I guess correcting Clay would be a very awkward situation... I'll leave it to that for now

"Right..." Aidren says not very convinced about the idea "You always used to mention how much you hated the idea of just dating, said it was unnecessary"

"Guess I'm special then" Clay answers

The elevator finally stops at his floor, the doors open and the cold breeze from the hotel's air conditioning hits my face

Aidren eyes him up and down "Definitely... Anyways, see you guys tonight" Before he finally walks out, he comes closer to me and whispers "Save me a dance"

The doors close, and Clay should start yelling at me or get upset just about...

Now?

"What a prick" Clay says

"Huh?" I look at him

"The dude's a prick" he repeats himself "Save me a dance" he mocks him

"Ok mister we are dating" I say

"You didn't correct me" he tells me

"I" I point at his chest "Did you a favor, imagine how awkward it would've been if I corrected you"

"My savior" he jokes

I roll my eyes and pull his hand which is still holding a tight grip on mine once the elevator doors open on the fourteenth floor.

"This way" I say

The room my mom got us thankfully has two decently sized beds, which will be good since I don't have to share a bed with him.

Even though it was fairly early when we got to our room, Clay and I decided to start getting ready right then.

And thank god we did, getting ready took a long while... and by a long while I mean the rest of the afternoon.

Changing and doing my makeup with Clay in the room turned out to be more difficult than I remembered.

I mean, last time I had to change with him in there I didn't mind him looking at me naked. Sadly the dynamics have changed now

My dress is a short satin red one, with some cleavage, but not too much since my mom's kinda icky with that. For my makeup I go with black eyeliner and red lipstick that matches both my dress and heels.

Once I unlock the door to get out, Clay's already wearing his suit.

Holy fuck.

I knew he was hot but holy shit does the suit looks so good on him

Clay has clearly never tied a tie in his life, I can see him struggle with it. He must've noticed my presence, since he turns around laughing

"I can't figure it out" he chuckles

"I got you" I tell Clay walking up to him "I had to wear a tie for high school" I explained

After tying it, I tuck it into his jacket and straighten the suit.

"There" I say

He turns back around and looks at his attire

"I should wear this more often, got you drooling and shit" he smirks

"I'm no simp" I say crossing my arms in front of me

Clay's gaze inevitably shifts towards my cleavage

"But you clearly are" I laugh "My eyes are up here"

"I know exactly where your eyes are" Clay smirks once again, not removing his gaze from my tits

"You're a pig" I say turning around, grabbing my coat and then exiting the room "Move"

"On it"

Clay leaves the room behind me and I lock the door before heading towards the lobby

My mom arranged so that this ball thingy would be held in this same hotel, so thankfully if things weren't going too smoothly with her, or the event in general, Clay and I could easily leave

This hotel's party room is probably one of the biggest I've ever seen, my mom really did go all out this christmas

I know for a fact she decorated it and planned it all, this entire place screams her name. From having tables with sitting arrangements done, to a full on three course meal.

"This way" I grab Clay's arm and guide him to our table.

I look at the other names on our table and notice Aidren's supposed to sit here too. I hate my mother

Jake is also in this table. Today's night is a recipe for disaster

"Charlie!" I hear Jake from behind us "Why didn't you fly out here with-" he stops when he notices Clay standing right by my side "...me"

Jake did offer to fly out with me, but Clay had some uploads to do and a minecraft event to attend these past days so I couldn't come sooner

"Just had to finish some things" I say, avoiding the fact that Clay was probably 5 feet away from my brother who just so happens to hate his guts

"What is he doing here" Jake avoids me "I thought I told you that night that if I ever saw you near my sister again I would bash your head in"

"Jake" I warn him, getting in between them "Don't, mom will get upset"

"Are you just going to forget about that night? About what this douchebag said?" Jake gets closer to us

"We are moving past that Jake" I defend Clay "He is my friend, I was able to put it behind me, so can you"

Clay remains silent, there's really not much he can do in this situation

"Should I come back later then" I hear Adrien from behind us

Jesus lord today is not my day

"Nah, you're fine" Clay answers for me "Should we sit?" he then asks, diverting his gaze towards me. I nod in response and sit besides Jake

"So Clay was it, right?" Adrien asks and Clay nods "How did you meet Charlotte"

"In a party, back in Orlando" he tells him

"Oh so you go to Uni there?" Adrien asks

"No I don't, I stream" Clay bluntly says

What is this, expose you're dream day instead of Christmas? What's up with Clay today

"Oh really?" Adrien laughs "What? Fortnite"

"Minecraft" Jake butts in "That's where your voice was familiar dude no fucking way"

"What? Are you big on the app" Adrien expression drops

"No not really" Clay smirks

Look at him trying to act all humble and shit

"Not really?" My brother huffs "Dude's a minecraft genius... Bad thing you're a douche"

"Jake" I warn him

"So... the weather" Clay says

The conversation then shifts onto many different topics. From life in Florida to politics, even movies at one point.

"And what do you study Aidren, if you do study of course" Clay speaks up

He has been fairly quiet all night

"The same as Charlie" Aidren answers putting a hand on my shoulder "i'm a Business major"

"How come you didn't come to Florida then" he asks

"New york is better for this field" he truthfully answers

I considered staying in New York too, but I couldn't be away from Jake much longer

"I was supposed to stay here for school" I confess "Florida was way more appealing though"

"Yeah remember that time during applications week... Our school held those for us students to help us decide where to study" he explained

"Well Charlotte and I were supposed to be looking at schools but inevitably got bored and left to make out in a janitors closet" he laughs

"Yeah and we got busted, was it Mrs. Collins who found us" I chuckle as well

"Yeah that old lady was a pain"

I turn to look at Clay and he's looking at Adrien with so much rage I think he'll explode at any moment.

The lights thankfully turn off and the music gets a bit louder, signaling that it's time to move to the dance floor. I grab Clay's hand and drag him with me

"I don't dance" he complains

"And I don't care" I say trying to uplift his mood

"You looked like you wanted to kill Aidren" I say

"Because I do, he was clearly trying to get a reaction from me" he says through his teeth

"Then don't give him what he wants" I warn him

"Believe me, fighting that fucker is the last thing I want to do today... But if he keeps on looking for me he will end up finding me"

"Can we change the subject?" I say and he nods

"How did you find the food" maybe this way he will chill down a bit

And it worked, we ended up dancing for a long while, until the music slows down a bit

Then Aidren pops out of nowhere

"Mind if I steal her away from you for a bit" he asks Clay, to which he surprisingly simply shakes his head

"Are you sure you don't mind me dancing with him?" I whisper, I don't want to make him upset

"Charlotte, we are just friends, I don't mind who you dance with" he laughs

"I know that, but we still broke everything off not so long ago" I argue "And he's trying to make you upset"

"Look Charlotte, I don't care about anything he tries" Clay tucks a hair strand behind my ear "At the end of the day, he was your first love, I intend to be your last"

"You are so corny" I laugh "See you at the table in a bit so we can leave"

Clay turns around and walks away from us. Time to face my ex... woohoo?

"So new boyfriend huh?" Adrien asks, grabbing my shoulders and waist as we start slow dancing

"Adrien could you please stop trying to provoke him" I say "You're not going to accomplish anything if he snaps"

"I was just messing around" he rolls his eyes

"Well I'm not" I say

"What does he have that I don't, I don't remember you being this protective over me when we were, quote on quote dating" he says

"Quote on quote?"

"I know you're not dating him, Jake told me everything, cut the crap"

"Jake knows nothing about my life, and you shouldn't be getting in between my business either"

"I'm the better man, I will always be your safest option" he tells me

God I know it.

Aidren is overstepping... that' how he is and how he always will be.

Back when we broke up he didn't want us to, it was me who initiated the breakup. My love language is touch, I simply can't do long distance.

That's when he didn't get what he wanted for the first time. But I guess he gave in since Aidren thought I'd come back to New York after I graduate and resume my relationship with him.

Seeing me with Clay now must've really shook him.

"Stop it Aidren, you won't achieve anything by doing this you-" I begin, but quickly stop when I notice my mom approaching us

"Hi kids" she smiles "Glad to see you two together again"

"I was just about to leave though" I say pulling away from Aidren

"But you didn't greet any of my friends why on earth did I organize this if you are not going to show them how good you're doing" she complains

"I feel really sick mom" I lie

"Is this gringo influencing you to leave this place?" she accuses me

"Mom leave Clay alone" I say

"No, because I know for a fact you weren't feeling bad just a few hours ago when me and your dad-"

"Sorry, Veronica, for stepping in" Aidren steps up "But she did tell me earlier about how sick she was feeling"

My mom turns to Aidren and squints her eyes at him

"I don't like the dude either, but Charlie isn't lying"

"Alright then... I'll tell my friends that" My mom says

She very clearly knows we are both lying, she could always see through us. However she also knows I won't desist until I finally leave early.

"Thank you Adrien. Bye" I quickly cut them both off and run towards Clay

I grab his arm and quickly make my way to our room. I need to get out of this place as soon as possible.

Thankfully Clay doesn't question anything and just follows me.

"Thank you for coming" I say as we enter the hotel room

"Thank you for inviting me" he says "Was your mom being a pain?" he asks

"When is she not?" I laugh "She definitely ruined Christmas"

"Well I don't know if this will make it better but I got you a present" Clay adds "Two actually"

I thought we weren't doing the presents thing, and I didn't buy him anything

"Wait I didn't get you anything" I say

"You forgave me, that's enough" Clay laughs

"No it's not, I'm literally the worst I'm so sorry" I tell him

"Let me show you the gifts" he walks towards his suitcase and pulls out two little bags

"Open this one first"

I open the little bag to find a bracelet inside, as I check it out I notice it has my birthday engraved on it

"Thank you so much Clay" I blush "I love it"

I put the bag down and embrace Clay

"And you haven't opened up the second one yet" he laughs "Here"

This one is much lighter than the first one

Weird.

Inside of it I find two pieces of paper

Wait, paper?

I look up to give Clay a confused look

"Plane tickets" he smiles "We're gonna go visit George!"

Oh my god

"You want me to go with you?" I smile

"Of course, George really likes you... And I wanted you there with me when I met him for the first time"

By now I'm probably furiously blushing, but I don't mind... not now

"Thank you Clay"

"Stop thanking me Char, I'd do anything for you" he says, taking a step closer to me

I can see his gaze turn on down ons my lips, and then back on my eyes. I know where this is going so I take a few steps back

"Clay..." so I stop it before I fuck everything up

"Charlotte" he teases

"You know what I'll say" I tell him

"Yeah... we are friends" Clay huffs

He then turns around, his hands fly over to his head "Fuck Charlotte I can't do this anymore"

Huh?

"I can never be just your friend Charlotte" Clay shouts "Why can't you get that"

"Where's this all coming from?" I stutter

"From not being able to hold you, to have you with me" Clay complains

"I'm right here I don't know what you're talking about"

"Having all of you with me"

"Remember how it went down the last time? I lost myself Clay, I can't risk losing you again... us dating is too risky" I say

"You won't lose me" he says

"That's exactly what you said last time, look at us now"

"I think we're perfect now" Clay answers and I give him a side-eyed look

"But we're not Clay, I was so scared you'd blow out of nowhere and ruin the party today" I cried "I can't live in constant fear of saying or doing something you won't like"

"But I didn't Charlotte" he steps closer to me "I'm trying to show you that I've changed, even when that Aidren guy was clearly all over you"

"Look, we could just try again, but take it slow" he suggests

"The problem was us going slow the first time Clay" I complain

"No" he grabs my hands "It was me being stupid and immature"

"Clay..."

"Please Charlotte, let me try again" he whispers getting closer to me

"None of our friends will want this" I say "Angel hates you, my brother kind of too"

"But it's OUR relationship, they don't matter, not to me at least" he mutters "Come on Charlie, you miss all of the shots that you don't take"

Fuck- I can't resist him any longer

"You are so stupid" I laugh "But ok fine, we could... we could try again"

"We can keep it a secret" he smiles

"Friends in public lovers in private type of thing?" I grin and he nods

"Can I finally kiss you?" he slowly asks

I impulsively grab him by his collar and pull him towards me, our lips colliding

I missed this so much, our lips move in sync with each other, and I can feel his breath quicken

So I pull back

"I want you to fuck me Clay"
