《Control (Book 1 of Control Series)》Prologue

To Rosaline graduating high school at the 16 isn't a big deal, however getting accepted to Yale a year later is. Her parents also think highly of her achievements, because they decided to make to throw a huge party to gloat about how smart their daughter is.

Rosaline hates parties. They are always excuses for the rich to gloat about their lives and judge other's when they don't reach up to their standards.

Standing next to her parents Rosaline pretends as if her life is one to envy as she does at every single party she attends to.

It gets boring and she wishes she can run upstairs and bury her nose in a book, however she knows her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Barrick, would demand she stay and lord know she wouldn't be able to refuse, even if she wants to.

Rosaline looks around and finds herself once again wondering why all these rich people are associated with her parents. Her parents aren't wealthy and are in fact in debt from buying things that they can't afford. Her father works as an accountant while her mother works as a photographer, neither jobs pay enough to be of high class.

As she stands next to her parents, who are talking with the Andersons, Rosaline eyes the table across the room full of food and glasses of champagne. Her stomach growls at the sight. She badly wants to walk over there and pile her plate high with food, before stuffing down the goodness. Too bad her parents don't allow her to eat until everyone has taken their leave.

Rosaline pulls her attention away from the food feeling her mouth watering and tunes to the conversation between her parents and the Andersons. The Andersons are an obnoxious family who come from old money, running the oil company that's been in the family for generations. They tend to talk a lot and be unnecessarily loud when talking. Rosaline can't stand loudness and often has to hold herself back from wincing as their loud voices pierce her ears.

To Rosaline's relief the Andersons soon walk away, though winces when her mother pinches her.

"Fix your face," Mrs. Barrick warns.

Rosaline has to hold herself back from putting the fakest smile on her face and instead plasters a small smile that looks somewhat sincere. Her mother gives a slight nod of approval and Rosaline looks at the ancient clock hung on top of the double doors. She lets out a tired sigh and sees that it's only 8 o'clock. She has three more hours until she could finally eat something and take her butt to bed along with taking off her dreaded heels.

"-and this is my daughter Rosaline," Mr. Barricks says, grabbing Rosaline's attention that had gone off elsewhere.

Rosaline focuses on the man in front of her and tilts her head back, noticing that the man is taller than her, as is every male in the room. He's a little taller than everyone in the room however at 6'0. He's also a lot... younger than everyone in the room with jet black hair void of any gray strands and not a wrinkle in sight on his creamy white skin yet still much older than Rosaline. It catches her a bit off guard as does the sudden nervousness at such a handsome sight.

"Hello Rosaline," he says. "I'm Mr.Garonna."

His eyes are a warm hazel color that contrasts from his daunting built that's lean yet muscular, and the total opposite of hers.

It takes a moment for Rosaline to realize that he's holding his hand out. She blushes and puts her small hands into his large one. To her surprise he lifts her hand up and places a kiss atop it, causing her blush to darken.

"N-Nice to meet you," Rosaline whispers.

She can't help but admire how well he fits his tux. It's a bit dated yet it's styled in a way that it also looks modern, and loose and tight in places that they should be loose and tight. Mr. Garonna it seems has a strong sense of style.

Mr. Barrick clears his throat, causing Rosaline to jump and pull her hand from Mr. Garonna's. Her face is as red as a freshly plucked strawberry.

"Honey, your face is red, are you alright?" Her mother puts her head on her forehead in mock concern.

Rosaline catches on to what her mother's trying to do.

"Uh- I think I need to call it a night." She turns towards Mr. Garonna and gives him a slight nod, not able to look him in the eyes. "It was nice meeting you, Mr. Garonna."

Even though she already said that, it was all she could say. Wishing her parents, a good night she quickly departs, heading to her room the whole way there feeling something she hasn't ever felt before.
