《Rather Ruthless》Chapter Twenty Two

The café died down pretty quickly. The crowd had passed and she was finally able to take a break. She should probably eat but she didn't feel hungry. She hadn't had the appetite lately. The thought crossed her mind to nibble on a pastry at some point but before she could decide, she heard the bell over the door ring. She looked up with her customer service smile and froze. She felt her pulse quicken and her breath became shallow.

What was he doing here? In an instance, her shock became anger but she feigned indifference. She waited as he walked to the counter.

"Hello, welcome to The Lovely Café, may I take your order?" He smiled and leaned against the counter. The look he gave her further increased her pulse and she felt a jolt in her heart. She couldn't help admiring how handsome he looked. She, on the other hand, looked terrible. How could he look so handsome after breaking her heart.

"I would like to order some time with the cashier." He announced like it was a regular order." She bristled and looked at him coldly.

"I'm sorry sir but we do not offer anything called 'some time with the cashier', I'm sure you would be able to find it at another store.

"But the cashier I prefer is here."

"Stop playing games, Trystan. Just leave. You made it clear that you didn't want me in your life." She was suddenly tired of this.

"Kaia, I just want to talk to you and explain what happened. Please come have lunch with me."

"No, the café is busy and I have to stay here with me aunt." Her aunt must have heard her because she stuck her head out the doorway and gave her a look. Kaia thought her aunt would be angry at Trystan for being here but her aunt seemed to be angry at her.

"I'm tired of you trudging your way through life. Go with him, I'll take care of the café. " Her aunt commanded as she stepped out of the kitchen. Kaia blinked in surprise. Her aunt had always been against Trystan. why was she on his side now?

"I'm sorry, aunt. I am not going anywhere with him. He mad it clear what I meant to him."

"I just want to talk to you, about my past, about my father and about why I pushed you away. I know I hurt you and I don't deserve any chances from you but I just want you to listen. If you still want me to leave after, I will. Just listen to me." He pleaded. His eyes suddenly being overcome with a sadness that tugged at Kaia's heart. Why did she still have to love him?

"I'm sorry, Trystan, but I can't. Not any-"

"If you don't go with him, I will kick you out of the store." Her aunt interrupted. "You haven't been yourself, Kaia. You've been hurting and under any other circumstance, I would have kicked him but he wants to share his past with you and I think you need closure so you can move on." At Kaia's action to speak, her aunt held her hand up, stopping her. "You're not moving on. You're crying all the time, hiding yourself from the world and even your family, and ignoring the things you used to love. I can't let you go on like this. Go."

Kaia looked her aunt and knew she couldn't say no. Her aunt wouldn't let her and she knew she wanted to be close to this man. This man who had broken her heart like it was nothing a few weeks ago. She wanted to hate him and she wished she didn't feel this way for him. Maybe her aunt was right. She could get her closure and move on, because somehow, she didn't want to continue to live like this.

Following Trystan into the high end restaurant, Kaia felt out of place. The opulence around them made her feel ugly. She was still in her clothes from work and she stuck out sorely. She saw the looks she was getting and felt self conscious. She looked down, and in doing so she missed the admiring gazes of most of the men in the restaurant and the envy in the faces of the women. She may not have been as well dressed but her beauty drew attention.

She looked up when she realized that they were in a hallway. She wondered where they were going and if they weren't going to have lunch anymore. Her curiosity was heightened when a man standing at a large door, nodded and opened it. She followed Trystan and her mouth flew open. In front of them, was a large glass room where a beautiful view of city could be observed. A table had been set and laid with two chairs and hanging down on from above the table was a chandelier that sparkled beautifully. It wasn't lit but she could just imagine the sight of it against the view in front of her. She felt eyes on her and turned to see Trystan staring at her. He had pulled out one of the chairs for her. She walked to him and sat, feeling like this was a dream.

Trystan sat on the other chair, facing her. She looked at him, hiding her feelings behind a mask. Something she had done constantly for the last few weeks.

"What would you like to drink?" He asked.

"Can we just get this over with?" She protested, ignoring his question.

"After we have eaten, I would like to make sure that there isn't food in our way while we talk and I would like it if you joined me in eating."

"Trystan, I know I said yes to lunch but I don't want to eat."

"Then let me order you something small, I would not like to offend the chef." At that, she nodded. She wanted to leave but he was right. How could she come to a high end restaurant without sampling some of the food. The chef would not be happy.

The smile that Trystan gave her made her pulse quicken again. Maybe she had made a huge mistake having lunch with him
