《Rather Ruthless》Chapter Nine

Fallon stared at her as her eyes moved to his face then back to his chest. Her eyebrows raised as she appraised him and he could see lust in her eyes.

He loved seeing it in her eyes. It turned him on quite a lot. He would definitely love to-- Snap out of it, man. You're not ready to get involved with any woman, remember? Yes, he did remember but his body was forgetting. He had to stop this now.

He cleared his throat and watched her eyes slide up to his. She realized what she had been doing and embarrassment stole its way into her expression.

"I know I have a great body but I'm not sure you came here to just ogle me." He said, smirking.

He just had to ruin the moment.

Anger and disgust was expressed on her face so quickly that he thought he had imagined the desire before.

"Listen here, Mr. Fallon, I just came here to find out if you found anything on my niece and 'your friend'."

"You could have just called. I did give you my cell phone number." Fallon argued. He was enjoying this too much.

"I was in the neighborhood." Candace folded her arms and his eyes darted to her chest before he trained his eyes back to her face.

Keep your eyes up and out of the danger zone, man.

"So you just decided to pop in and say hi to a guy you've only met once?" He could see frustration working its way into the myriad of expressions running across her face.

"I told you, I wanted to know if you had any news."

"Yeah, sure." He said, raising an eyebrow that indicated that he didn't believe her one bit.

"Ugh, . . . why else would I be here?" She asked him, her eyes challenging him to say something else to annoy her.

That kinda scared him. He had been through so many dangerous and life threatening situations but this woman scared him. If anyone found out, he would never live it down.

Instead of doing the rational thing and sending her away, he stepped aside.

"Come in, Mrs. Reed." He invited. She stared at him assessing his invitation, before she stepped into his apartment. He closed the door and followed her to his living room.

He watched her take in the interior.

"This is beautiful." She commented.

"Yes, it is." He said, pride in his voice. She turned to face him.

"Don't tell me you organized this interior."

"What if I did?" Well, he did have a lot of time to himself now, what else was he supposed to do?

She just shook her head.

"Have a seat." He motioned to the couch. He realized he was still bare chested. "I'll go put on a shirt."

As he made his way to his bedroom, his sharp hearing caught her whisper, "Please do." He laughed softly.

Candace let out a huge breath when he left. Arrogant bastard. He though he was such a handsome guy, well he was, but that didn't give him the right to be so pompous.

She put her purse down beside her and stood. A painting in the hallway drew her attention. She loved art and this painting was done very well. She moved on to the next one, it wasn't as good as the other but it was also incredible.

She was so focused on the painting, she didn't notice the slightly open door at first.

She wondered what was behind the door but her subconscious reminded her that this was someone else's house. Her curiosity waged war on her subconscious but this time curiosity won. She pushed the door open further and gasped.

The room looked eerily scary. It was dimly litted but she could see the many screens that were all connected to a console.

Why would he have a room like this? It seemed like he was spying on someone or some people. What kind of man was he?

"Mrs. Reed, what are you doing in here?!" His voice reached her sharply. He sounded angry. She turned to face, feeling guilty. She should have listened to her subconscious.

"I'm sorry. The door was open and I couldn't help myself." She admitted. His eyes darkened more, his anger was clearly visible. His fists were clenched tightly. "I'm sorry." She apologized again. "I'll leave now."

She made her way towards the door but he grabbed her hand as she passed him, gripping it tightly. It hurt. She looked up at him.

"I hope you aren't planning on telling anyone about what you saw in this room."

She shook her head, fervently. "I won't. I promise."

He let go off her hand and she run out, grabbing her bag before dashing out of the apartment. She didn't stop until she was out of his building, then she leaned against a pole and took large breaths to calm down.

Today had taken a crazy turn and she had no one to blame but herself. She was a grown woman and she let her emotions take over her common sense. She wasn't a lovestruck teenager anymore and she hadn't been that for a long while, she wasn't going to start now. It was time to get back to being Candace Reed, widow, aunt and café owner. Nothing else.

She took one last relaxing breath and began the journey back home.

She didn't know that way up in the penthouse, she was being watched by its owner.
