《Rather Ruthless》Chapter Five

The door to his office opened. When he saw who it was, he groaned.

"What the hell are you doing here?"

"Is this how you welcome your bestfriend, Trystan?" Keith Sable asked, his blue eyes twinkling, as he made his way to Trystan's desk.

"Keith, what do you want?"

"I'm moving back and as my bestfriend, I thought you should know."

"You came to my office to tell me that you're moving back here. You could have called and saved us both the time."

"Actually, there's something else. Fallon called me." Trystan grunted.

"He had no right to."

"He did. I agree with him. What do you want from the girl? I had her investigated and she doesn't seem like your usual type." Keith sat down as he spoke.

"It's none of your business, Keith. I don't meddle in your relationships so don't meddle in mine."

"I would hardly call them relationships but you're right. I shouldn't meddle. That doesn't mean I won't. We are the best of friends, even though we can hardly stand each other and I'd rather you hate me than you ruining the poor girl's life."

"Why does everyone want to meddle in this? I won't warn you again, Keith. Stay out of it or . . ."

" We both know I'm not scared of you, Trystan. I'll see you later." Keith stood and smirked then he walked out of Trystan's office.

Trystan took a deep breath to calm himself. If they wanted to meddle, they would soon realize their mistake. It was time to take things up a notch.

Fallon shook the hand of his friend before giving him a manly hug. He remembered those days when it had been the three of them, fighting for a place in the world. Keith had ended up opening a chain of clubs all over the world. Trystan has become a billionaire and he had become a spy.

He was retired now, working for Trystan. He didn't need to. Having friends like Keith and Trystan meant he had his hand in every little thing, so it was safe to say he was rich enough.

He had only taken the job to have something to do and to keep himself from remembering all those years ago. Those had been dark times and they all had dreams of those days, especially Trystan. Trystan had suffered the most, that was why he had become the man he was now.

Sometimes Trystan broke down and it wasn't pretty. People could get hurt.

Fallon knew he had to prevent the girl from going through what he and Keith had been through. It wasn't pretty and the girl probably wouldn't be able to take it.

"You know he won't listen." Keith said, folding his arms. Fallon nodded.

"I know but we have to try. He has never wanted any other girl like this. Something has to be done."

"I agree. I just hope we don't make things worse than it already is."

Fallon nodded, agreeing. They knew Trystan and they knew each other. They just needed a good plan.

And he had an idea of whom they could use to make the plan work.

It was almost dark when Kaia left the bakery. Her phone rang as she got to her apartment building. Checking the ID, she saw it was Trystan. Almost immediately, she blushed. She remembered how close they had been to kissing each other.

She answered quickly.

"Hello."

"I missed you." He said in response. "I'm parked in front of your apartment waiting for you. I want to see you. " He confessed. Kaia looked around and spotted a car that looked expensively out of place in her neighborhood.

"Trystan, I'm not so sure about this." And she wasn't. He was a man that was so different from her and it wouldn't work out. Who he was scared her very much.

She heard him sigh.

"Kaia, I can't let you go, there's something in me that won't even accept that possibility."

"I'm sorry, Trystan, but I can't go out with you and I'd like it if you stayed away from me."

"I can't, Kaia. I just can't. I'm sorry." Then he hanged up. Kaia placed her phone in her bag, then with a last glance at him, she went into her apartment building. She hadn't wanted to do this but her aunt was right and after finding out all that she could from the internet, she had to end it.

Trystan lived a life she didn't want to get involved in. It didn't matter if she was attracted to him. She just couldn't be with a man like that.

She searched through her bag, looking for a key. Suddenly a damp material was clamped over her nose and mouth. She fought against it, struggling against the hand that held her. She felt herself go under.

Her last thought was that she knew who had done this.
