《Of Demigods and Wizards》In Which This Story Begins

"Oh come on, really?" Hermione Granger snapped as she saw Ron Weasley pick up a book. "That's not a real book."
"It is too a real book," Ron snapped back as he held up a copy of D'Aulaires' Book of Greek Mythology. "Besides, it's a lot easier for me to read instead of those long difficult complicated books you like."
Jacquel Romanov frowned as she stared at them arguing. Don't get involved, don't get involved she repeated to herself. She walked to the other end of the bookstore, mainly towards the fantasy section. The section that Hermione would never dare venture to. She had half a mind to grab the new book that everyone on Facebook was talking about, but she knew that Hermione would never read fantasy or science fiction at all.
Science was magic, her grandmother had once said. Magic was undiscovered science. Science fiction presented an infinite world of possibilities, such as space travel and life on different planets.
Something Hermione would never understand, not if Jacquel explained it to her one hundred times.
Jacquel had found the book and stared at it for a long time. The book was a saga combining Greek mythology with science fiction. How could she say no to that?
She made her way to the counter and began to make her purchase when Ron and Hermione showed up, still arguing over the whither-tos of Greek mythology; or rather, the book that Ron was holding in his hand.
"Jacquel, you're the one who actually reads science fiction, you tell Ron that's not a real book," Hermione yelled.
"It is too a real book," Jacquel said as she examined Ron's book. "Mythology was before they had science. Back then, the ancient people didn't have access to most of the stuff normal people take for granted these days. Back then, they believed in the ancient gods." Hermione glared at her. "The Greek gods were the most famous," Jacquel continued, "and long before Christianity took over, the Greek gods held providence over the lives of the ancient Greeks."

"Very good," said a man in a wheelchair as he stared at the children. "At least someone here appreciates Greek mythology. But here's a question for you." He cleared his throat and said, "Can any of you read this?"
He handed them a huge piece of paper with some writing on it. Ron glared at it and said, "I can't understand a word they're saying." Hermione frowned as she read the note and said, "This is gibberish. Surely someone doesn't appreciate the value of writing."
Jacquel, however, was not daunted. She summoned her reading glasses and began reading the words "Kronos has returned." She said, "It's all in ancient Greek."
"Indeed it is," said the man. "Where did you learn to read ancient Greek?"
"At the International Language Institute in Athens, Greece," said Jacquel.
"I see," said the man as he watched the children leave the bookstore.
Hermione said to Jacquel, "Did you really study at the institute, because I have reasons to think that you're lying. There's no way you could go there every summer."
"My grandmother teaches Russian there, so I get a free lesson in whatever language I choose," said Jacquel. "You know nothing of my life, Hermione Granger."
"Also, where did you get the glasses?" Ron said as he stared at them.
"You know how I can't read the books at Hogwarts because they give me a headache?" said Jacquel. "Well, my mom took me to a doctor and he gave me these special glasses to help me read. I somehow found myself being able to read in almost any language and see things that not even a wizard can see."
"Indeed," said Hermione. "And why couldn't you read the books assigned to us from Hogwarts?"

"My brain isn't wired to read magical books," said Jacquel. "As such, my grandmother and mother had tried to forestall my entry into Hogwarts until my magic could be determined."
"But you don't have any actual magic inside you despite the fact that you're so good at casting spells," said Ron.
"My mother was a spellcaster, did you know that?" Jacquel snapped at him.
Hermione said, "That still doesn't explain how and why you can't do anything beyond spellcasting. And why are you so interested in science fiction and fantasy?"
"Because I know that science fiction and fantasy go together and there's also the fact that I may or may not be a witch at all. My mother wasn't one of the top students at Hogwarts and my grandmother couldn't do magic beyond a first year's understanding," said Jacquel. "Now we must return to the hotel immediately or else your mother will find out that we went to a muggle bookstore and she'll have a cow."
Not far from where the kids were standing, someone was watching them. He had a strange look on his face as he saw one of them pull out a book. He knew that come what may, the kids were not going to the hotel. In fact, they would be going on a fantastic adventure...

The Reborn Runesmith
We have all read stories about the reincarnated or portaled earthling going to the fantasy world and gaining a cheat and super abilities. This isn't one of those. He doesn't even get to choose what kind of mana he gets it could be fire, water, air, etc. This world is different than ours. Gunpowder, medicines, and other things will probably not work or be availible. Who is to say that the beings of this new world will even have the same internal anatomy. These are all things our MC will have to discover. Just like our world you can be born with great genetics but if you are a lazy and undriven person nothing will come of it. This is my first attempt to write. There WILL be mistakes. I am a mathmatician not an english major so be prepared for questionable grammer and spellings. One of these days if I enjoy doing this I will get me an editor who did english instead of math and science.

MeiQ: Lore of the Labyrinth
Omaros City lays near one of several Yggdrasil trees that are scattered around the world. Each tree holds an entire labyrinthine ecosystem within or beneath it, yet the mysteries of their origins and what lays in their depths are only ever unraveled by the most skilled and courageous of explorers. Exploration of Omaros' Yggdrasil labyrinth is still in its fledgling stages, drawing in many with the allure of fame and glory that has yet to be claimed. Enter the harbinger Dubhan—cheerful, determined, and not terribly skilled at thinking ahead—and warlock Allouet— intelligent and resourceful, but desperately in over his head. Together, the two of them have half an idea of what they're doing at best, but that's not going to stop them from aiming for the labyrinth's unknown depths. MeiQ is, at its core, a fanfiction inspired by the Etrian Odyssey franchise, alternatively known as Sekaiju no Meikyuu in Japan. Despite that, it is written with the intent to be enjoyable by those unfamiliar with the series as well. The characters and the city of Omaros are original, while the story draws upon lore and recurring concepts from the game series. However, Etrian Odyssey is known for its lore being sparse and open to speculation, so much of the details provided in this story are exactly that—a fan’s speculation and personal expansion of the lore. This story was also inspired by and written as part of HereBeTreasure's Fast Food Frontpage Competition, enjoy some simple dungeon exploration plot and whatever else pops up from this.

The Electric Archipelago (WIP)
This is the first draft of my new cyberpunk novel, The Electric Archipelago. In the future humanity is imprisoned by massive corporations. Computers are directly connected to their brains, creating a nightmarish state of absolute control, every action is monitored and harshly judged. Perhaps worst of all, the victim's perception of reality itself is controlled. A system of social credit hangs over everyone's heads. If you want to survive you will need to pick a company and stay loyal to that brand. But it goes beyond that, because each corporation has been infiltrated and taken over by forces that are interested in more than just profit. John is a Skinwalker, a free man, a man who is immune to these restrictions. He goes where he wants and does what he wants, moving from one augmented reality to the next, always looking for the next score.

Dispatches from the Inter-galactic
Dispatches From The Inter-Galactic is a series of loosely related satirical stories which take place in a galaxy full of various interstellar civilizations and numerous space faring species generally described as consentients. This series is set in a galaxy which take place in a similar but not entirely unlike the galaxy in which my series Up in Space takes place While there are numerous themes related to interstellar life, several of the stories directly relate to specific themes such as; The pan-galactic ramifications to the use of supersymetrical energy sources (often drained from intera-located alternate and pocket realities.) the use of which by most interstellar civilizations is steadily increasing the overall amount of Dark Matter. This is increasing the mass of the galaxy and results in the occasional rips in inter-dimensional space as well as an overall increase in supernova activity. It is also speeding up the approach of the galaxy in Andromeda, which is of concern to several long lived civilizations; The Morphoids, a race of shape-changing consentients who are capable of using the space lanes created by the use of supersymetrical sourced energy to spread throughout the galaxy. They are currently viewed as threat number one by many space-faring species; and Xeno and exo-sexuality, as many species try to figure out what sort of enjoyment they can have with many of the species they encounter in space (only some of which are carbon-based, or more rarely, humanoid in appearance). This also relates to the altering of species to make reproduction somewhat easier for those with rather complicated lifestyles. A major force in this area of pursuit is the galactic visiteering industry, which promotes the ‘uplifting’ of more primitive planet-bound near-consentients.
