《Human Resources》Forty-five

The party continued without a hitch, despite the lurking figure of Hugo dominating the room. There was something vaguely familiar about these men that bothered him. He snarled to himself as the festivities carried on.
The band had taken a break and all had gathered around the screen to munch popcorn and enjoy the show. Three was worried. It had been more than an hour since Doctor Klaus had left without a word. The rhinoceros guarding the door gave no hint as to when he was expected to return. Instead, he growled at Three and told him to “Back the fuck off!”
Three rejoined the congregation and tried to busy himself with the duel taking place on film. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Six rummaging through some boxes he’d found under the serving table. But no matter how hard he tried to lose himself in the moment, Three couldn’t help but worry.
Suddenly, the lights flickered on and off rapidly and a cadre of armed men stormed through the entrance. Hugo tackled two in one swift motion, crashing their helmets together, before a swarm of combatants brought him down. Calmly, one man broke off from the pack and walked towards the assembly. He pulled his helmet off gently and spoke.
“I am Lieutenant Hale from RoboGuard Security Systems International. Who’s in charge down here?”
The brethren gaped at him, wide eyed, as the guards continued to pummel Hugo into submission.
“Please, will someone tell me who is in charge?”
Three stepped forward nervously. “Doctor Klaus is in charge, sir. And his associate, Doctor Klingel.”
“And you are?”
“Three.”
“Three?”
“My full name is JON-03, but Doctor Klaus just calls me Three.”
““I see.” Hale froze and gawked at the identical faces staring back at him. “Well, I don’t know if I’m the one to give you the news, son.”

“News of what, sir?” Three asked.
“Yeah,” Six cut in, looking up from his rummaging, “what’s going on?” The clones began to mutter at once.
Hale raised his palms for silence. “Please wait right here until I can sort this out. Go back to your movie. I will return as soon as possible.” He turned, and then strode violently towards the fallen Hugo. Reaching down, he lifted the gargantuan up to his feet by the collar. Slapping him across the face, he glowered. The giant cringed.
Glancing down at the man’s ID badge, Hale growled. “You are Security Associate Hugo?”
Hugo nodded, wincing.
“And who are these men?”
“I don’t know.”
Hale struck him again. “Not good enough.”
“Clones or something.” The giant spit out a tooth. “How should I know?”
Hale clenched his fist and raised it to strike him again, but lingered. “Who ordered you to guard these men?”
“Captain Tanzer.”
“And how do I get in touch with him?
“His office is on the third floor of the Personnel Building. Look, that’s all I know!”
Hale released his grip on the man and shoved him away. “Martins and Higgins—you boys keep an eye on things down here. Zimbardo, see if this Captain Tanzer is in his office. If he is, radio me and have him sit tight. I’m going to break the news to the President.”

Odyssey of the Unrivalled
What do you do when you have it all? When you can do anything, go anwhere, know anything with less effort than stretching your fingers? When you feel jealous of any passer-by, just because they have something to do, somewhere to be? The answer was simple to him: erase your memories, seal your power and live a normal life. Still, something felt wrong. It just didn't feel... fulfilling. But then a magical formation appears in his office, and he and his co-workers get catapulted into another world. Profanity will be kept to a minimum, but will be included to keep realism. There will be some gore, vegans and animal activists alike beware. Will include some comedy, some meaningful conversation (I hope) and some things you will (hopefully) never expect in this genre. Hopefully quality will increase as it goes on. No schedule for chapters, but they will keep coming. Feedback welcome. View my other story at https://royalroadl.com/fiction/13168/fork-this-life

Ætla Verǫld
AV Online was just a flash in the pan—a harsh, experimental land which lost most of its players in mere weeks. Only the dedicated few remained, carving out their destinies in corners of the vast abandoned world. Lily Quinn wasn't one of them. With a career worth millions in the esports world, she didn't have time for a game like Avo—but when an exclusive beta test for the new version showed up on her doorstep, she couldn't say no… as much as she wanted to. Literally hooked into the simulation, Lily reluctantly entered a world beyond anything she'd ever dreamed of. Accompanied by seven other beta testers desperate to save their beloved game, Lily dives into a vibrant, beautiful world, where mystery and adventure waits around every corner. Despite her reservations, Lily finds a joyful escape in Avo, shattering her cold, hollow reality. It was just a game though… until the group discovered they couldn't log out. Trapped in a game with no rules, and surrounded by cutthroat players eager to kill for a quick windfall, Lily and her ragged band have no choice but to fight their way out, or die in a game that has turned all too real. Hi there! I'm setting off on yet another adventure, come join me :3 Unusually for me, there's only one perspective this time, and it's quite a bit more action-oriented than I usually write. Don't worry, though: everything's still as character-driven as always, and I never get tired of writing dialogue. Just to acknowledge it up front: this story is heavily inspired by EVE Online and the many stories generated by that world. However, since this is a fantasy setting, not sci-fi, don't expect any real parallels. Chapter publish rate for this one will be whenever I write them, as with Epilogue. I don't expect to move as fast here though, since it's not for NaNo. The plan is chapters somewhere in the 4k-5k range, and hopefully frequently. The Last Science takes priority as always though. Special thanks to Reaver and Ace Arriande for pushing me to get this going, and to all my fellow writers whom I've stolen from been inspired by. You're all wonderful people and I love you Quick reminder: Patrons get to read ahead of what's published! Arching Choices
This is a story I used to do with people in an afterschool club, where I would make up a story, that the user/player would have options to choose from no matter how creative. There will be multiple polls, and I will read comments for the actions of the player, any one can play, because the charater will be gender neutral, but the choices will affect the story, whether it be your companions, and items you acquire. I'm a newbie writer but I just want to have some fun making a story. The chapters will be short so that the viewers can make choices. Longer chapters will be made once this has some good choice options. I thought it would be fun for the readers to develop the character's personality. Critisism welcome, because I have no idea how to write stories. P.S, Once the Character's personality is fleshed out the Synopsis will probably change

The BLOODLANDS
The story follows a young lord in which a middle-aged man reincarnated into the body and gets a second chance at using the knowledge he learns from reading in his past life. No longer bound to the world of his library and university but in a world in which if he failed not only his death but the death of others are in his hands. This concept of the book came about from having two mild heart attacks and the regrets of not being more active in my younger life. Note: The cover of the book is from a painting of Richard the Lionheart at the Battle of Arsuf (1191) during the Third Crusade where he defeated Saladin. Painting by Gustave Doré (19th century).
